i think I will be trying out the prophets idea, sounds really cool. Nonetheless very good advice from everyone

So I guess I will continue with grids, thanks guys!
-
So are you saying that creating grid-cities is "un-avoidable"? I see many cities with twists and turns, or is that not supposed to be functional?
-
I use grids a lot when creating a functional city for income and growth. However, I use many different intersections and NAM tools when making aesthetic cities. Every time I try to combine the two, it never seemed to work out and I would end up use random space. What is your organization for cities? I would like to see some ideas to inspire new ones. Also, is there any advice when creating these types of cities?

What I mean is cities connecting to each other to make one aesthetically pleasing region. I'm aware of the programs that are able to make these kinds of regions, but I wish for more control over the design of the city instead of it being randomly generated (If possible).

Hey guys. I haven't been on for a while, good to be back. So, many times I would see regions that connect with each other very well and seem to flow. So I've made some regions using a tool, but I don't know how to make different landscapes in one region (i.e, mountains, plains, and lakes in the same region). Thanks.

The illusion of the recycling center
yayaya1 replied to yayaya1's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
OK, so Maxis is obviously not going to cut it, so the trash solution I'm looking for is some mod that is realistic, efficient, and affordable (black hole, a bit over my current budget). I just started the city a few days ago and I'm already facing the challenge of balancing a very unstable (but definitely improving) budget. Any other solution/mods? Edit: is Paeng waste management functional or cosmetic?- 13 Replies

The illusion of the recycling center
yayaya1 replied to yayaya1's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
ok, that makes much more sense, and I now I get why they weren't economical. So, if I had 1 recycling center in my city of 50,000, would it only recycle 10%?- 13 Replies

I have encountered an unusual problem for the first time with a recently plopped recycling center. The icon advertised that it relives 20% (correct me if i'm wrong, but that's how I read it) of the city's trash. I calculated this just to make sure, but i only had 70 tons out 560 tons, which is around 13%. This as a result had me raise my expenses more than it took away from the dump. Thanks.

Your kidding!!! Did you have SC4 installed when the computer used Windows 7 as the operating system? When you converted to Windows 8 then 8.1, did you leave SC4 on the computer? My only suggestion left would be to uninstall SC4 and then reinstall it. See if the game works then and/or you can use the Compatibility feature. Of course, you run the risk of not being able to get the game working again after reinstalling it. You will have to weigh the benefits and risks before starting such an undertaking. Good luck. Hope it turns out well. i'm not kidding. but sc4 did work fine in windows 8 original. I think i'm going to just download a soundtrack and see if it works.

I do have compatibility mode.... for everything BUT SC4. Are you kidding me!? thanks for the suggestion though.
-
I would be unaware of that being possible. As for the day/night-cycle, have you tried actually using the buttons in the godmode menu rather than the shortcuts? I have fixed the cycle, sound is still not working. uss, I don't think I downloaded anything that would do such a thing It's something you would have manually added to the target line of the shortcut by typing something (Moose gave an example above). If you don't remember doing it, you probably didn't. yeah I think it's an OS problem

I have been thinking of linux and thinking of swithcing, but I do run many strictly Windows programs and I'm not too sure about compatibility. I cannot reload 7 as it was the first OS installed on the operating system and I do not have access to a disc. I guess I'll just stick to jazz. It actually is very nice while building a city. I thank everyone who contributed to this thread.
