Another week, another map, this time it's the Twin Cities, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A. (for SimCity 4). It is the capital and largest metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Minnesota, with a population of 3.69 million. The map is 28 x 20 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. Elevations have been compressed so that the region's many lakes are filled with game water. It stretches generally from Lakeville in the south to Oak Grove in the north and from Waconia to the west to areas in Wisconsin east of the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. The map encompasses the entirety of the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format. I hope you can put this map to good use, enjoy! -TCC View My Full Map Catalogue Here:- 1 Review

[Solved] Game Crash Exit Without Save to Region (GOG version)
thecitiescenter posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hi All, hoping one of you technical experts could possibly shed some light on a rather-odd CTD issue I'm having. Background I just downloaded the GOG version of the game (my CD-Rom drive went kaput after giving me 15 great years). The CTD did not occur until I "switched over" to the GOG version (I had no issues when I was running SC4RH from the CD). I didn't do anything else to my computer or plugins folder since making the "switch". Issue: Crash to Desktop (CTD) after pressing "Exit Without Save" to Region View. Test Results: CTD only occurs when exiting to region. If I save (via CTRL-S) prior to exiting, I am able to load my City back up after re-booting the game. It seems to happen when I plop a Building or Lot. E.g. If i open a City and plop a Landmark, Airport Lot, or something else, I will get a CTD after I hit CTRL-S, then try to Exit Without Save back to Region View (it doesn't make it to the Region View). However, if I plop a road piece, Save (CTRL-S) then Exit Without Save to Region View, it'll go back to the Region w/o any issues (no CTD). Thanks: If any of you have run into this issue or could shed some light, it'd be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. Best, TCC -
I agree with @Tyberius06 the building looks great, IMO baking in cars would not enhance the building or realism, I just got back from Tokyo for the second time this year. I go there frequently. You rarely see parked cars anywhere except in residential areas and even then its only a few tucked away in car ports on the ground floor of residential buildings or the occassional small (very small by North American standards) neighborhood parking lot. Perhaps you could consider modeling in pedestrians instead. A few businessmen would do the trick.

Hey man looks great, one suggestion if u dont mind, the BJs looks a bit too big and tall when compared to the rest of the plaza. My suggestion would be to downsize it roughly to the same dimensions as the other two outparcels u have toward the “south” side of the lot.

Thanks! Oh you don’t know (actually I’m very sure you do know lol) how much time I spend internally struggling with this and other maps when it comes to rotations, compression or other adjustments and sacrifices just to meet the various (quirky) sc4 world mechanics. For Austin, it came down to me wanting the runways at Bergstrom to (mostly) line up with the SC4 grid. Yeah, I sacrificed “correcting” the entire city grid over an airport runway or two lol. Not the first time and wont be the last time it happens I may end up releasing both the standard vers as seen here and another rotated for the street grid. Though the rotated may come some time later as I’ve more or less wrapped this one up a while ago and its been sitting in the release queue. After doing quite a few of these maps now I realize why some cities didn’t get very far in @drunkapple’s to-do list or other mappers that came before me. Some regions just arent very “SC4 friendly” either in regard to the grid, or elevation/water levels, or both! Munich, for example, is currently driving me nuts…

Looks great! I like how some parts are still very Portlandesque like the location of the CBD/downtown, Interstates 5/405/84, the Ross Island Bridge, etc. I also like the creeks and riparian areas you added to the SE corner. Look fwd to seeing more.

Hey man, meant to reply to this much earlier but work has been nuts this week. Wow thats a wealth of info on the history of Tokyo, I didnt know thats how the city was planned. Im considering releasing several versions at various rotations now that Ive read what you posted. I may, work on it in the next few weeks (for a specific reason which I’ll reveal later). As for London u got me laughing I can only imagine Don Flaminco going around bulldozing entire neighborhoods… in all seriousness tho, Heathrow was important for me so I left out the rotation but Id consider releasing a rotated. Thanks for the tip on Google Im gonna try it w Tokyo!- 63 Replies

Taipei has been released to the STEX (link in first post above)! OTHER UPDATES: I plan to release one or two more maps per the usual weekly schedule (Tuesday or Wednesday, U.S. Pacific Time) and after that, I'll be wrapping up this "season" and taking a short hiatus for the summer before releasing the next batch of maps. Some sneak peeks for "Season 2"... Tokyo, Japan Tokyo, Chiba-Narita, Yokohama... it's all there, in one map! Sacramento-Davis, California, USA Taking off where I left off with my Stockton-Modesto map and adding a couple buckets of water to Folsom Lake yielded this... includes Davis for any Aggies around here: Hong Kong-Shenzhen, Guangdong, China Includes everything previous HK maps had, but expanded to add Shenzhen, the technological capital of China. London, England, UK Fish n chips, anyone? This one's been expanded to Southend-on-Sea. Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, USA While we're on the subject of lakes... the Twin Cities also gets the bucket and compression treatment that Sac got...- 63 Replies
