Welcome to New Cumbria (Not like there's all that much to welcome you to at the moment) This is the very first entry in what I hope to be a successful CJ. It will include exploring and planning the New Cumbria area. Today I will showcase Cortez island. And so, we will start at the Cortez island ferry terminal, which is run by the New Cumbrian government. a small path links it to the developed area. (A night shot and a day shot) And the small ferry service village On the road to Whales Cove now, Wales Cove is the largest village on the island, yet its population is still under 1,000 people. Once travelers reach Whales Cove, they first pass by the local Spirolina farm. And then into the village. Whales cove has the only gas station on the island, and the only proper marina. The Whales Point Lighthouse is farther up the road (Night shot and a day shot) Continuing up Central road... To the village of Cortez Cliffs. And to a small view point. Along the road now to Cortez Village. a very small community with a harbor. Out of the Village now. and back towards where we started. here are some overviews. Thanks for viewing! Any tips and Comments would be much appreciated.

Replies: Hazani Pratama: Thanks. ggamgus: Understandable. I do need to show more of Shayden culture, though most cities which do host the Simlympics are Metropolises. Thank you for your comment and I will work on culture more. Snugies: SimCity 5, which will be out as soon as Half-Life 3 is released and EA decides not to be cheap. 111222333444: Thanks. Forthwall: Thanks, I love them. They make my airport more unique compared to everyone else's. k50: Thanks, I'll work on my culture then to make it more appealing. Also I will build lower density once I leave the center of the city (as time as real life lets me do it anytime soon.) Jack³: Thanks platonic butt buddy. Lord Branham: Thanks! Geometry: Haha. RepublicMaster: Thanks. UndercoverNinja12: Thanks, that was what I hoped for. Prophet42: Thanks! Just a random update with a few new annoucments. First of all: Shayden has a new Flag, Coat of Arms, and Official Seal: Flag: Coat of Arms: Seal: Second of all, I can now announce the upgrade in effect for Shayden. Pictures will now be in 1280x720, rather than 1000x562. To celebrate this (and apologize for the lack of updates), here are some pictures of cities all around Shayden which you should remember in the new resolution. This will basically be a summarization update of new comers. Aureus Tholus, the Capitol of Shayden located in Smith City. Commerical District, Smith City. The National Mint. This is the only location in Shayden, and the only nation (besides Acadia) who can legally produce the Sent. Downtown Harrison City. Commercial District, Harrison City. Harrison Stock Exchange, Harrison City. This stock exchange is the New York Stock Exchange of Shayden. Anthony, located in Cartier. Triton, located in Monsainstallen. Ditto. Spartanburgh, in Sussuraste Ditto. I apoligize for yet another scattered, basically pointless update though real life has kept me really busy and this is just another update to point out that I am alive. As soon as I can recollect myself I will be focusing on showing more of Shayden's culture. Also if you make a comment asking for links then I will delete your comment.
  5. Welcome to Bigelow, just named Simolay's City of the Year. ** EDITOR'S NOTE: New to Simtropolis posting, I am clueless as to how to post pictures properly. What you see is a relatively tiny shot of Bigelow Mansion, the historic home of city founder J.L. Bigelow. If anyone could tell me how to post pictures full-size, and put them where I want them within the text, such assistance would be greatly appreciated! ** Bigelow is a city of approximatey 30,000. Just north of the regional capital of Virginia City, Bigelownians can enjoy all the cultural venues and activites the capital has to offer without suffering any of its big city problems. As a mecca for high-priced lawyers (it is considered the legal capital of Condorosa) and tony financiers, perhaps the most stunning aspect of Bigelow is its wealth. The average family income is a whopping $200K a year! There are twice as many high-income jobs as low-and-middle income vocations combined. And with more good jobs than there are residents, Bigelow sees plenty of commuters daily from surrounding areas. Regional government officials and independent surveys rate Bigelow's quality of life excellent in virtually all areas -- including public safety, healthcare facilities, schools, parks-and-recreational activities. The only significant chronic complaint is traffic, the bane of urban existence, which is occasionally heavy but generally flows smoothly. The tax burden -- 7.9% for most entities -- is approximately 12% lower than the national average. Pictures to come, when the tech-challenged editorial staff receives proper assistance.

Hello, i'm QW2. I am currently starting a region project on SC4 using limited mods, however I will install some mods on request. I am doing a modernist-themed region. Terrain Layout Using the config.bmp of the earth map, i have created a large, flat region with only large cities on it. From West to East (Left to right on the map), it looks like this sorta. Mountains>Foothills>Steppe>Plains>Ocean>Islands Mods I am using several ploppable/growable retail stores such as Walmart and Target, I hesitantly inform you that I will be using the Money Tree mod to fund this project. I am also using several vehicle addons and ploppable construction equipment, along with skyscrapers of sorts. I will also use mods to boost demand while building. Requests! I will take requests and base designs for cities.
  7. In an ongoing effort to elevate the level of firmness glutei maximi in the general area, the mayors office announced a brand new biking campaign earlier today. "Let's get this citys bikepaths rolled on!.. " the mayor said in an extraordinarily awkward comment to the Bay of Piglets herald this evening. "..Let's get 'em all firmed up!".

  8. Welcome back to Borussia! SC4 decided to cooperate and let me get some screen shots today so here is the second part of the Amesbury update, followed by our travels through the South Bannockburn Area. Yesterday we left off in the Upper Amesbury neighborhood, located on the hill overlooking the highway. Downhill and to the west lie more modern homes. Back onto the highway we encounter many retail stores, a sign we are getting closer to Bannockburn. More stores. Homes lie on the hillside as we drive on down the highway. Away from the highway perched on the hills lie the windmills that give power to many of the locals. Condos and apartments replace the stores as we continue east. Driving off the highway we are covered by the shadows of the large condos to our left. In the middle of the urban mess lies a center of learning and a baseball field for the kiddies to play on. Grundge meets modern in some places of South Bannockburn We encounter another school, as well as a pitch and a Gridiron Football field. Both are used by amateur teams. Beside the sports complex lies St. Nicolas Church, nicknamed "the Church of the People" since it resides among the lower wealth apartments and industries. We'll end today's update with a view of one of the local parks Hopefully you enjoyed this much longer update. Thanks for viewing
  9. Located on the banks of the Van der Loop River, Johannestad serves as the capital for the Kuwunderlaner culture. The Kuwunderlaners are descendents of the original Dutch settlers and through Kuwundi's turbulant history they have managed to keep their language and culture alive through the establishment of learning programs, festivals and museums. Johannstad was named after the captain of one of the first ships to arrive on the shores of Kuwundi, Johann de Vries. Following the German takeover those who decided to stay in Kuwundi fled inland to establish a settlement where they could maintain their Dutch culture. The settlers aimed to build a town that would model one in the Netherlands as many of the Dutch settlers had become homesick. After years of work Johannstad was established. Over the years through trade, friendships and marriage with local tribes and foreign merchants, the original Dutch culture began to evolve into a new culture that became a mix of Tsuwu, Kuusa, Dutch, German and French influences and as a result the Kuwunderlaans language and culture was born. Below are some common Kuwunderlaans phrases. Hello: Haloot Goodbye: Vaartsoot Good Morning: Goet Matin Good Afternoon: Goet Mittoog Good Night: Goet Nowut Thanks: Danku You're welcome: Ty nim seku How are you: Hoe ir ty? I'm fine, thanks!: Imu goet, danku! How much is...?: Hoeveel ke dis...? My name is...: Minu laangu dis... I speak a little Kuwunderlaans: Ik sprech a biet'jo Kuwunderlaans Where is...?: Wou dis...? Aerial view of Johannstad Typical colonial architecture The majority of the building in Johannstad were built in the Dutch style. Looking out of place in the middle of the Kuwundan jungle, these canal houses were built with materials shipped from the Netherlands. The majority of visitors to Johannstad often say that if it weren't for the sun, humidity and palm trees, one would think they were in Holland. As part of the 100th anniversary of Johannstad this windmill was sent piece by piece from the Netherlands as a gift to the Kuwunderlaner people. Johannstad Sentraal-Polizeistaasie (Johannstad Central Police Station) The ruins of the Sint Elisabeth Monastery. The monastery was one of the first buildings constructed by the Dutch settlers. In 1952, a large fire broke out and left the building in ruin. Sint Willem Cathedral was built in 1920 A small fishing village located across the river from Johannstad.
  10. The dark blue waters of the River Havel flow through Gleitzen, separating the historic city from the newer industrialized and housing areas of the northern bank. The beautifully restored 'Strombrücke', spans the river Havel. The commute between the riverbanks. The newer buildings around the rebuilt riverfront district, comprise of many institutes of learning and city administration, along with commercial and apartment complexes. The city's newer standard of living contrasts with the old one, over the cross river rail line.

I wanted to create a landscape that resembled southern California, with abrupt craggy ridges separating valleys like in Los Angeles. I did not put the city near the ocean, however, since I already have a large city running on a coastline setting and wanted to try something different. Instead, I carved a winding river and several tributaries, which will afford the opportunity to experiment more with NAM bridges as I continue to learn the ins and outs. I also raised the land on the north side of the river to allow tunnels to work properly and not strike sea level under ground.

Hi everyone! I'd like to introduce you to my new CJ, The 313. This CJ is storyline based around a young teenager who we'll meet in the first chapter later on. I'll let him do most of the talking. What you should know is that the bulk of the book will be centered in and around Detroit, and even though it's primarily a story, the journal will of course take detailed looks at different parts of Detroit. I've never actually been to Detroit myself (with the exception of its airport), but then again, what's the point of writing about a city you already are extensively knowledgeable on? The story won't exactly be "light", but instead will most likely deal with deeper issues revolving around crime, family, belonging, and especially rebellion. I suppose if you're uncomfortable with these topics this may not be for you. That being said, welcome, to the 313.

Once again, just remember to click on photos to enlarge. Hey Y'all. Back with another update. Today we're gonna take a look at "The Town" aka Oakland, CA. The jewel of the East Bay. Here we can see downtown and Lake Merritt, the heart and soul of Oaktown and where Oaklanders go to play. The Bay Bridge brings people into Oakland, and terminates in industrial West Oakland. There are a lot of superfund sites here and it is very polluted. The BART comes up above ground in West Oakland, the black community that lives here historically lacked the political voice to get the rail line put underground, so above it went, doing a lot of damage to local businesses. Here we have a shot of the West Oakland BART station. The neighborhood has a lot of historic Victorian homes, many of which are run-down and have become a haven for the area's punk rockers and artists. Jack London once lived in this neighborhood and in the 1940's the neighborhood became known as the "Harlem of the West" with an influx of African Americans looking for shipbuilding jobs during world war 2. The Temescal District in North Oakland is home to the Town's hipster population. Historically, it was an Italian-American community and more recently, Ethiopians and Koreans have been moving in as well. It is known for it's mom and pop shops and friendly, village-like character. Emeryville is a small, formerly industrial city next to Oakland that has been redeveloped into a pro-business bubble in the notoriously anti big-business Bay Area. Old factories are being converted into offices, or just being torn down and replaced with condominiums. Downtown Oakland. Oscar Grant Plaza in front of City Hall was the site of the Occupy protests that ended in a controversial violent eviction. Montclair is the wealthiest area of Oakland. Up in the hills, it houses mutlimillion dollar mansions. In 1991, big portions of the area were burnt down in the Oakland Hills firestorm, but have since been rebuilt. Fruitvale in East Oakland is home to the City's Latino population. It also was the site of the 2009 murder of Oscar Grant by BART police, which led to protests and riots across the city. Deep East Oakland is notorious for its late night sideshows. Where people go dumb and hyphy while doing wild tricks in their cars in intersections. Often, things get a little too wild and end in violence. Former mayor Jerry Brown tried to crack down on sideshows, but the Town likes to do what it do, and the movement continues. Sequoyah in the East Oakland hills is home to Oakland's black professionals. Overlooking the poverty of the Deep East's flatlands, it is proof that Oakland is a dynamic city of contrasts.

  13. Lyhoko: Results are 9 votes for expanding to the north, 4 votes for expanding east, and 1 cote for expanding to the south. The northern island of Galesfeburg has expanded a bit, but not too much... but then again, due to it's small size, the expansion looks more significant. Meanwhile, north of Bredli, development continues with more farms. As well as a new town, Nyunburg. This town doesn't seem to follow a standard grid pattern. It's not that big, but it is big enough to not be an unburg, and is the northernmost town in the region so far. And if you follow An 21 off to the east, it soon curves to the north and heads toward the large lake in the northern mountains... though it doesn't get quite that far. Meanwhile, Dziket Egulaur, (Cat's Friend), along with Fancy Feast, have set up this new cat food production and distribution center on the north end of Galesfeburg as one of the results from the recent meeting between Myon and Schulmania. Now, what will they think of Myonian cat food in Schulmania? And of course, the map. Lyhoko: No new streets here. Another map? Lyhoko: Shied is Myonian for "main," Baal is Myonian for "ball". Do not confuse with Ba'al. Poll Lyhoko: What should be added to the region next? Lyhoko: Next up is the island to the north, as well as the surrounding areas. Also the meeting itself. Lyhoko: Remember to look closely at which option is which number when voting. Don't say something like "4 - expand Nyuumau area," 4 is expanding to the south, Nyuumau area is 3. 1: Expand the area to the far north around the mountains 2: Expand the area to the north around Bredli 3: Expand the area to the east around Nyuumau 4: Expand the area to the south around the mountains Lyhoko: And for Galesfeburg: A: 5 votes Expand Galesfeburg to the north, on the island B: 2 votes Expand Galesfeburg to the east, replacing the farms C: 3 votes Expand Galesfeburg to the southeast, into the hills D: 4 votes Expand Galesfeburg to the southwest, along the coast Lyhoko: And a third poll! Should a bridge be built linking the island to the rest of Galesfeburg? Y: 1 vote Yes, it won't grow well with only the ferry N: 5 votes No, the ferry connection is good enough for now Lyhoko: Please choose one option per poll at a time... but you may vote more than once, as long as you do not double post. Let other people have a chance to vote! Lyhoko: Feel free to offer suggestions on how to implement things as well. Or suggestions on new improvements for later on.

  15. Progress

NOTE: It is important that you read the update before voting in the above poll(s). Images will enlarge when clicked. Status Update Updates will now be posted every second Friday. If this is your first time reading Progress I recommend you go back to the first update (I call it Update Zero), which includes some important information about how this works. There is a link to it on the right sidebar. Update Two - Home The date is March 15th, 1859. The season is Spring. The current population of the settlement is 122, with 98 adults and 24 children. Most of the citizens of the progress settlement have settled in and starting going about their new lives. A vote was held on what to build in a designated common area and the people chose to set up a public market. This Market has become the center of activity in the new town and has attracted traders from afar. Farther down a few people have made homes near the site of the original camp. The waterfront will no doubt become a busier area once a proper landing is built. A couple members of the Progress expedition have decided to settle outside of the town itself. Marshal Thibodeaux opted to construct a small cottage and farm along the river downstream from the town. John Harding built himself a hunting cabin in an open clearing north of the town. After the first round of claims the settlers decided to draft up a new map showing the property holdings in the town. Join Action: To join Progress click the image below. (Closed) Character Action: There are four possible actions for characters in this update. Action 1: Pick a lot and settle in the town or clear your land outside of town. (Only if you have not yet done so) Action 2: Build a home or shop on the land you selected. (Only houses can be built outside of town) (Only if you have not yet done so) You may only do one of the following: Action 3a: Claim more land outside of the town and build a home or farm. (Only if you already have selected property in a previous update) Action 3b: Apply for more land in the town. This requires a valid reason and will be voted on in the next update. To perform a character action reply in the comments using the form "Character name selects lot x and builds a shop." Community Poll: Build docks or expand street network? Building a dock will allow for more trade while expanding the street network will open more land up for settlement in the town. The next entry will catch up with the settlers in the Summer of 1859.

Well, it's update time! Today we will be featuring Flatopolis, started because I wanted to build on a perfectly flat surface after the endless "Unsuitable grade" warnings the RHW threw at me. The city is a pretty basic one, very standard as far as cities go, but I tried to at least somewhat factor asthetics into it's design. Anyway, on to Flatopolis! Flatopolis has two sections. The first section is the main city, while the second is a large agricultural area. I will be covering the main city first. As you can see, there is a highway running through the center of two sections, the large bullet train T-intersection, and the muncupial airport. The city is not very big yet (I'm not good at building very large cities, this is one of my largest). It has a lot of money, though! How I love you, extra cheats DLL... anyway, I cheated in money for sandboxing purposes. The city is functional, but not a big income generator (around -10000$ a month), and I like plopping stuff everywhere (Yay, park here, park there, giant thingamobobs every which where!) Anyway, we will be looking at the eastern side first. A slightly closer view. Lots of high and medium wealth lowrises and homes, and even a few mid-rises. You can also see the industrial area to the north, with plenty of manufacturing and high tech. A closer view of some of the industry. You can also see part of the bullet train line that services the whole city. The fire department strip, which services most of the city, is located off to the right of the main industrial area. Also visible is one of the two cemeteries. The Mattb325 coal plant which services the city. Also pictured is the city's radio station. The city's air is smog-free, thanks to Simgoober. One of the several air purifiers in the city. These things do there job exceptionally well, almost to the point of being OP. The air purifiers, coupled with this SFBT garbage transfer station, keep the city clean. Moving southward, we can see some of the first office towers being built. To the left is one of the Mattb police stations featured in the last entry. Above the office tower in construction, in a block of it's own, is another suburban Mattb building, this time a fire station. Below that commercial area is the original church, one of the first buildings to be built. To the right of that is the first school. And once more below that is the hospital. (I have a whole menu full of Simgoober hospitals. Why didn't I use one of them? Because I'm an idiot.) Next to the hospital is one of two Houses of Worship. Here you can see the bullet train T-intersection, which looks pretty good in my opinion. It goes across the highway to the right and goes along to the edge of the map to the left, with several stations along the way. The top branch heads up to the industrial area. And that is all to see on the west side. Now to cross over to the east side. This is nothing new. Exact same design as last time, except much, much easier to build with the flat ground. To the right of the overpass is the deluxe police station. You can also see the diagnal street mod at work. I think it makes the city look much better. An overview of the east side. You can see the bullet train line bordering the main area, the university below everything, and the casino, which really stands out. The airport, with a large commerical district below. The casino. I was spending a lot on new zones and stuff so the finance advisor gave it to me and I decided "The more stuff the better!" It doesn't really fit right now, but I hope it will when the commercial zone grows. Near the casino is the city hall. Nothing special here. This is the tower you can see in the city hall picture. It grew. Isn't this supposed to be a landmark? Anyway, below the commercial area and the city hall are a few boring Maxis schools, a large residental district, and then the university. A closer view of the university. Off to the left is the little league stadium and off to the right is the private school, all boring Maxis things. After I finished the main photo taking I recived two more rewards, both Maxis. This country club, below the university, and this art museum, right below the city hall. (Odd... that pic is awfully tiny... oh well.) And that is the main city finished! Next update: The agricultural area!

Hello all! It's been a while since the last full-fledged entry and I like this one, mainly because I've discovered the magic of: Well, this episode illustrates the second-richest city in Antara, after Stuyvesant. Tide is a town built on reclaimed land, on the southeastern coast of Antara. Tide is far more straightforward than an experiment of population density. It doesn't serve much of a purpose economically, even. It's a playground for the rich. The waterfront district, home to the "middle class" of Tide, is the center of government and business. The brightly colored buildings and flashing lights of downtown are a little too much to bear, even for the seasoned traveler. The Marina District is the oldesd reclamation project, jutting out half a kilometer into the sea. The Corniche District, located in the north, is a remnant of a bygone era. In the Northwest, Corona Island rises out of the water. Those who live there take ferries to work on the mainland. The secluded paradise of The Ring is home to the rich and reclusive. But the city's crowning achievement is, for sure, Sunlight Atoll. The atoll was a naturally occurring reef, until it was partially reclaimed and made into four separate islands, aptly named North, South, East, and West Isles. For those who can afford it, living on South Isle is a viable, if exorbitant option. Visitors who don't make seven figures but want a taste of Tide-style luxury can stay at the Al Thahab Hotel for a night or two. At night, the hotel is truly beautiful. Corona Island stands out as a pinprick of light against the dark waters. And, of course, the Waterfront district is powerfully bright, even at midnight. That's all for today! RE: @Konstantinll: Thanks! Also, apologies for the rant. @Huston: You're right. I tried a more understated lens flare and it works better. Next time: Sand
