GARDENER CENTER GLASS This entry explains the reflective metal coated glass material I created for Gardener Center. NIGHT WINDOWS WITH SELF ILLUMINATION This tutorial explains how to make nitelites using the self illumination feature of the Arch & Design material in 3ds Max 9 and newer. DERIVING DIMENSIONS (BRUTALIST FACADE PART 1) How to use Google Earth and Adobe Photoshop to figure out the dimensions of the Central Scotland Police Headquarters' Brutalist facade will be explained. This method is applicable to all facades. Part 2 covers how to model it. BASIC POLY MODELING (BRUTALIST FACADE PART 2) Extruding splines is the most commonly used method to create walls and other objects, but many forms can't be made by extruding splines. This tutorial explains how to create the basic shape of brutalist facade shown above, using the Extrude and Outline tools. SNAPS AND THE TRANSFORM TYPE-IN BOXES Being able to work accurately is essential for making clean, easy-to-work-on models. This entry covers Snaps, and the Transform Type-In boxes.   4. Just yesterday there was a topic from a new player, catpower165061 discussing his lack of gaming skills. There was some good advice from several people including RSC204's link to his favourite tutorial, which I looked up and it is a good one. Couldn't that link be placed in the Omnibus section for newcomers? This made me think about how some of this information is not located anywhere on the site. Yes the Omnibus has tutorials but some of the more skilled/advanced/knowledgeable players know "stuff" that some of us less skilled/knowledgeable players might like to clue in on. Such as RSC204's NAM tutorials - I only checked those out very recently and boy those should be better advertised but the links are in his signature (Didn't pay attention to it - no need to hide your light under a bushel) and there I finally got information about roundabouts and how to create them properly! Custom content creators - trying to find some of these is getting more and more difficult on the STEX (the LEX is better organised and easier to use, however it is limited and not always on both exchanges) so there could be a list of creators who have created excellent content under Residential, Commercial and Industrial. As an example LNX in his CJs frequently suggested creators names for commerical (diagonal for instance), industrials and residential etc. From my experience, if I don't know what to look for I don't know what I'm missing. Even listing alternative SimCity sites with downloadable content such as ToutSims, the Polish site, Moonlights(Japan) site. Some of these I only found out about trolling through Paeng's CJs and others for inspiration (well stealing ideas ). A little note about googling A Nonny Moose's postings might be relevant. His old postings helped me when trying to have SC4 work better. Cori's Rock/Beach/terrain shoppes are an excellent feature - keep them coming. I personally like show and tell type tutorials that's how I learn best. As an aside the Lot Editor tutorial has lost all the pictures - can this be fixed/updated? Does any of this make sense to some of the more experienced players? Or the Newbies? Oh and I just thought about a link to the Plugins organisation thread. I wish I had known about that a few months back! When you are new you don't realise how you are going to regret not having a better organised plugins folder. According to the Lex I have downloaded one of BSC's dependencies 6 times no less (good grief - not sure how to fix that). I have to sort that plugins folder soon - there's excellent advice on that thread. Sorry about blathering on but wondered if some such information might be helpful to others. Any suggestions?
  5. Either my game is broken or I just can't put my finger on something. I'm sorry if I repeated threads like these time and time again, but something is wrong with my mindset since I can't figure out how to play this game, I just can't put my finger on it. It seems like all the time when doing a task my mind runs at 100 mph or something. Not seeing all my colored zones build up at all is what prevents me from wanting to continue and it's frustrating. I have some coordination problems too. How can I get my mindset right? I want to be able to build my own city, I just can't execute it properly.
  6. Aprus - The Rise of a Nation Behind the Scenes Tutorials, Tips, Tricks and Discussion Hello Simtropolians! I've created this topic over here at the Forums CJ section as a companion topic to my Aprus - The Rise of a Nation CJ, which you'll find over at the CJ Section of the site. This topic will be about sharing my limited knowledge and my "creative process" with you all, while learning a few things along the way myself. It's amazing how much more you learn when trying to teach others. I'll also be posting images of my progression and "behind the scenes" work for the main CJ over here. To get started I've made a list of tutorial types for you to pick from. If you would be so kind to participate in the Tutorials Poll at the top, I would greatly appreciate it! Tutorial Poll Details Video Fly-over Lesson: Capture, Edit, Encode and Upload high quality game footage. Description: In this tutorial I'll show you how I make my fly-over videos. I'll be showing how to download, install and configure FFSplit for high quality screen recording, how to convert/compress videos for smaller sizes and finally, for those of you who own Adobe Aftereffects, I'll be showing you how to do some basic compositing, editing, basic animations, and rendering. Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. Time to make: Longish. Image Maps Lesson: Create a cool image map with multiple click-able areas in the same image, useful for maps, city overview with direct links to each area, and much more. Description: In this short tutorial I'll be showing you how to easily create HTML5 Image Maps using on-line tools, and how to configure them for use in your CJs. Difficulty: Beginner/Intermediate. Time to make: Very quick. Photoshop Tips and Tricks Lesson: Where I'll share my knowledge of Photoshop. Description: In this tutorial I'd basically just share with you my knowledge of photoshop, and how I do most of my image editing. Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. Time to make: Medium. Formatting ST posts Lesson: How I format and create the layout for my journal entries. Description: A tutorial on an easy way to standardize your Journal layouts and formatting using HTML5 and CSS. Difficulty: Beginner/Intermediate. Time to make: Medium/Long. Embedding Audio and Video Lesson: Learn how to correctly embed Youtube videos, audio streams and/or songs into your journal entries(or anywhere else). Description: Quick tut on how to properly embed videos with the right resolution and other parameters. You'll also learn how to add audio streams or single songs to your entries. Difficulty: Beginner/Intermediate. Time to make: Fast. These are the tutorials I could think of off the top of my head, by all means, if you have any other ideas please let me know in the comments below! I know many of you already know how to do all this, and even better than me. Still, this is aimed at those who DON'T, or those who would like to learn a few more things. As mentioned above, my real aim is to learn together, and have an incentive to better myself and learn new skills(such as making tutorials) and share all with you guys. I certainly am no expert at any of these things and it is never my intention to patronize or offend anyone. Corrections and criticism is very much welcomed, as long as it is in a respectful and civilized manner.   9. I have downloaded the RMIP and ACE Modular Airports Sets off SC4 Devotion and I need to find a tutorial on how to construct a realistic airport. I have come across a set of videos on YouTube, but they are not very useful for myself and the words overlay the content and the recorded Screen size is very small. There was a thread on another forum detailing the construction, but the screenshot have since been removed, or are no longer available. Is there a new and updated tutorial on this?

    Do you use a Sidewalk mod that does not come with a Maxis Texture Replacer? Have you made your own custom sidewalks and want to extend them from the transit networks to your Lots? If the answer to either question is yes, you'll want to click download. In essence this file is a tutorial with step by step instructions (Word Document) from simply replacing the three default Maxis plaza textures (10 minutes work) to complete removal of all of the default Maxis textures that use the Grey, White and Pink colour scheme. ============================================================================================================ NEW OPTION (MTRDK_Automated_Preview.zip) - JUN 2015 Due to a new technique, proposed by Rivit,, it is now possible to automate creating the textures in this set. You'll need the latest version of GoFSH to process them. If you select to download the file MTRDK_Automated_Preview.zip, you will find in the archive a texture repository with all the required files, including a script for use with GoFSH. For now, I will keep the old files available in case anyone prefers that. More information on the automated texture creation for SC4 can be found here if you are interested. ============================================================================================================= Absolutely no modding experience is required to follow along, and included is my MTRDK (Maxis Texture Replacement Dev Kit) which includes pre-modified files that make creating replacements very easy. The screenshots above show the final results of this process with Paeng's Sandstone textures. This mod is an extension of my tutorial here on Sidewalks and how to get the most out of them. You will need SC4 Tools to follow along (and a photo editor for the optional final part). Hopefully someone will find this useful.

  14. Today i downloaded the cam mod, i think its great except for one thing.. I have no idea how to properly use certain features, expecially the tunnel thing... where its 'a road to road tunnel transiition' i put a transition on either side of say, an avenue. i cant tell if the tunnel is complete.. basically im wondering if someone could give me advise or direct me to a good CAM tutorial.. thanks. ohh also i checked youtube but nothing helpful popped up.
