  1. Detroit

Is it possible to recreate the whole Metropolitan Detroit area (Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties in Michigan) in SimCity 4?
  2. Hi. I am recreating the Metropolitan Detroit area in Southeast Michigan. Here's a map of it: I used SC4Mapper to put the map into the game, but it did so as a region. I researched if you can do a region as one big city, but I don't think you can. So I was wondering if anyone or someone they know can mod the game to the point where you can play a region as a big city. Thanks. (P.S., please reply as soon as possible.)

"We no longer live in a leisurely age, nor do we move on streets from which it is possible to contemplate and enjoy minute sculpted detail. What we see we must see quickly in passing, and the impression must be immediate, strong, and complete. Color has this vital power." Wirt Rowland of Smith, Hinchman, and Grylls, designed the Guardian Building to be a bold modern skyscraper for a bold modern city. It was designed functionally, and composed according to a rigorous geometric system. The building features ceramic art by Mary Chase Perry of Pewabic Pottery, murals by Ezra Winters, stained glass clocks from Tiffany Studios, and sculptures by Corrado Parducci. The Guardian Building opened in 1929 as the headquarters of the Union Trust Company, which quickly became Guardian Detroit Union after a series of mergers, before failing during the Great Depression. It now houses offices for Wayne County, and various companies, including SmithGroup, the original designer of the building. All of the models share the same TGI, and you may switch between any combination of SD, HD, MaxisNite, and DarkNite, by swapping out the .SC4Model files. This is my 100th upload! 5x2 and 2x5 growable CO$$$ lots. 5x2 ploppable CO$$$ lot. CAM version included. High definition (HD) version included. MaxisNite and DarkNite night versions included. DarkNite requires the Day and Nite Modd. Requires mipro essentials January 2019 or newer. Installation Instructions: Download either the DarkNite (DN) or MaxisNite (MN) version. If you're unsure, choose the MN version. If you change your mind, you can switch between DN and MN versions by swapping out the .SC4Model files. Unzip the .zip and move its contents to Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins. If you use the CAM, download the CAMeLots. Replace the original growable lots with the CAMeLots. Ploppables are already compatible with CAM. If you'd like to use the HD version, download the corresponding HD model, and replace the original .SC4Model file with it. If you change your mind, you can switch between HD and SD by swapping out the .SC4Model files. HD BATs have very large file sizes. mipro Forum Thread mipro STEX Uploads

“Well it’s 1 2 3 4 take the elevator at the Hotel Yorba I’ll be glad to see you later…” Located at 4020 Lafayette Blvd in Detroit’s Hubbard Farms neighborhood, the Hotel Yorba stands as a symbol of Detroit’s glorious past and challenging present. Originally built in 1926 as a residential hotel for retirees with a taste for housekeeping and room service, it now serves largely as a flophouse, offering short-term stays for unsavory customers. Visible from I-75, the building with its iconic sign has been a Detroit landmark, even before being memorialized by Detroit garage rock band, the White Stripes. 4x2 growable and ploppable CS$ lots. Firstly, thanks to everyone who gave input and feedback: @matias93, @T Wrecks, @jimc, @krasner, and especially to @mattb325 for BATting help, and Daeley for documenting the click-to-copy mechanics. This is a modular factory puzzle piece set, based on the Fisher Body Plant No. 1 in Flint, Michigan, by architect Alfred Kahn. Stats: Nite lites: Maxis Plop costs: minimal Monthly costs: none Other effects: none Power/water required: no The building models all use modular components in the form of prop families. With millions of possible combinations in windows, roofjunk and weathering, no two plops should ever be the same. However, with millions of possible combinations, you're definitely going to want to run the crucial bugfix mod SC4Fix - it's listed as a dependency below. How to use it: By default, the lots will appear near the bottom of your park menu. I use DAMN Manager to handle the problem of overflowing menus, so there aren't any MML lots included here. For ease of endless labyrinth construction, all lots use "click-to-copy". After placing a lot, simply query that lot ("/" key), then close the query box to plop another of that lot wherever you like. Note on viaducts: There are lots for NAM heavy rail viaduct docks and passthru (cosmetic only). The passthru uses a viaduct prop that should match the appearance you chose when you installed the NAM. Factory Lots: Ortho Corner Corner Fancy Vents Roof Vents Windows Doors Dock Filler Viaduct Dock Viaduct Passthru Park Lots: Ortho Var1 Ortho Var2 Corner Sign (Ortho) Sign (Diagonal) Sign (FA3) See included Readme.jpg for a view of each lot. Install: Unzip "CT14 Fisher Body Plant Modular Factory.zip" into your plugins folder. This will create a new folder "CT14" containing a folder "Fisher Body Plant Modular Factory". If you already have a CT14 folder, say "yes" to merge. Remove: Bulldoze the factories, and let the brownfields lie fallow for generations to come. Remove the folder "Fisher Body Plant Modular Factory" from "Plugins/CT14". Dependencies: CT14 Prop Pack Vol 1 BSC - VIP girafe bushes https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2711 SC4Fix Bugs: Probably. Please report bugs in comments to this post, or to the development thread: https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/69360-ct14s-railroad-lots-and-bat4F

A pack of various HD props to support upcoming releases. Includes Fisher Body Plant puzzle piece modules, transparent grunge props and roofjunk. Prop families will be found by name in the Lot Editor. Install: Unzip "CT14 Prop Pack Vol 1.zip" into your plugins folder. This will create a new folder "CT14" containing a folder "Prop Pack Vol 1". If you already have a CT14 folder, say "yes" to merge. Remove: Remove the folder "Prop Pack Vol 1" from "Plugins/CT14". Bugs: Probably. 7. A pearl found today in Citylab, one of my favorite websites. Very interesting to watch if you have 15 spare minutes. Video here: https://archive.org/details/detroitspatternofgrowth As in any city, the story of Detroit can be told through its roads. In 1965, an educational film illustrated it all in 15 minutes. Explained in Detroit’s Pattern of Growth, made by Robert Goodman and Gordon Draper of Wayne State University, the city’s layout was informed by French, British, and American rule and its transformation from a fur trading post to the center of the automotive world. Using minimalist illustrations, the film shows the layers of different visions for the city overlapping though new paths, streets, and eventually, freeways. With a good 250 years of various plans colliding, there’s a lot to take in. But to keep it short, the film concludes, the city’s paths can be best understood as products of four distinct periods:

  10. http://www.buzzfeed.com/alisonvingiano/insane-pictures-of-the-detroit-metropolitan-area-underwater As you may or may not know, Metropolitan Detroit was in the center of some life threatening storms Monday afternoon. I'm here to tell you guys my side of the story from a first-hand encounter. Firstly i must say that i work in the GM technical center on thirteen mile road East, which unfortunately was the greatest impacted area (and IMHO , the epicenter) of all the watery destruction monday night. Everyday i walk two miles to work, thirty five to forty minutes, from just east of schoenherr ( Pronounced Shay-ner- for anyone wondering) across the area which is littered with small streams and ponds that no one would have ever thought would become so dangerous. The day started pretty normal for me with the exception of a little rain. the rain was a very light drizzle by the time i made it to work (around 2). Since im still in training at work I was placed in a small windowless classroom in the center of the building so i had no idea what was going on outside. My first inclination that something was wrong was that we had a rolling power-out across the building at 5:30ish. then about 7 the glass roof in the cafeteria came crashing in (with rain) from about 25 feet above. Still i chalked it up to the building being slightly on the older side and didn't think much of it. things really got serious about 8:30 when the teacher said she would release us an hour and a half early, at 10 from our 11:30 class. when ten oclock came around we were informed that we were being barricaded On the GM campus unintentionally by a Semi (Yes, an eighteen wheeler) that had stalled right in front of the gates. my superiors came down and said that basically (because the campus is on higher ground than the surrounding areas slightly) we were surrounded by water on all sides, basically we were an island in the middle of warren. Since i wasn't driving anyway i was free to leave. I thought to myself "its only a little bit of water. Im 6'6, what can possibly happen"? At first - the water was high but still maneuverable. it came up to the mid part of my shin. after the quarter mile walk (from the Chicago entrance of the GM center to Van dyke) the water shallowed out slightly. I was able to cross the street with no problem but when i got to the other side mass hysteria had broken out. Right along the side of the Lowe's a small storm drain had completely overflown just recently and was stranding people in about five feet and the half feet of brown murky moderately fast moving water. after i realized i couldn't cross it i doubled back to the parking lot of the lowe's where i was met with about 75 - 150 new faces of people who had been stranded on their way home. Some of them were talking about making a swim for it across Van dyke ( which was submerged in about 5.5 feet of murky dark brown water. Granted, that isn't bad for me because im 6'6 but for the average person who isn't a strong swimmer that's hell). I tried.... i really tried to persuade people to stay put and not to try to make that swim ( there was a small current that i was particularly worried about that pulled you out near the storm drain) but some people were so adamant on it. Once i had crossed the big lake that was once van dyke by straddling the gate down for about half a mile I tried to save at least three cars from being submerged by flagging them down and telling them that the water was a lot deeper than expected just a few hundred feet ahead but they also didn't listen. I don't know if any of the people i warned are okay or not, and i feel bad that i wasn't able to save or influence anyone. after two and a half hours of walking around trying to direct people to safety while looking for an area of van dyke that wasn't submerged so that i could cross behind it safely i was completely and utterly exhausted both physically and mentally. The whole ordeal was very reminiscent of the last scenes of titanic when the boat is still going down, and they're playing the sad song on the violin. My only wish now is that everyone affected by this ( all the south east michiganian's, as well as other Mitten simtropolites Such as Nofunk, Jasoncw, Theol'Michiganian, and myself) crisis is now somewhere safe.
  11. mipro Motown Museum

    Version 1.0

    6,858 Downloads

Motown Records was founded by Berry Gordy, Jr. in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan. Gordy purchased 2648 West Grand Boulevard, where he boldly hung a sign “Hitsville U.S.A.” over the front door. Motown would be headquartered there for the next decade, absorbing adjoining buildings on both sides of the street, transforming it into a hits factory. Hitsville U.S.A. and an attached house were converted into the Motown Museum in 1985. With the slogan "The Sound of Young America", Motown Records was a powerful force of racial integration in the 1960s, making pop-infused R&B that was accessible to young people of all races. Kids jumped police-guarded barriers segregating concerts, venues which previously banned black artists began allowing them, and the Motown Sound permeated through all of American culture. This BAT is uploaded in celebration of Black History Month. 2x3 museum lot. MaxisNite and DarkNite night versions included. DarkNite requires the Day and Nite Modd. 15. mipro Penobscot Building

    Version 1.0

    17,666 Downloads

Upon completion in 1928, the Penobscot Building was the tallest building in the world outside of New York and Chicago. This art deco tower is the third, tallest, and most iconic building in the greater Penobscot Block office complex. It was designed by Wirt Rowland of Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, who designed the nearby Guardian Building, built a year later. Corrado Parducci, a local architectural scupltor, provided Native American themed ornament for the building which is named after the Penobscot Nation. I first started this BAT way back in 2006 (over 7 years ago!), and for various reasons I needed to restart it. I worked on Penobscot Mk. II from 2007-2008. Once again, as I progressed through the building I ran into problems and had to restart. I quietly worked on Penobscot Mk. III from 2012 to the present, and not even including the previous attempts it's been by far the most hours I've put into a BAT. Enjoy! 3x3 growable and ploppable CO§§§ lot. CAM Version included. During the winter the nitelites change to a Christmas scheme! MaxisNite and DarkNite night versions included. DarkNite requires the Day and Nite Modd. Requires mipro essentials December 2013 or newer. Installation Instructions: Download either the DarkNite (DN) or MaxisNite (MN) version. If you're unsure, choose the MN version. Unzip the .zip and move its contents to Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins. SC4Lot files are descriptively titled. Remove the lot versions which you don't want. Do not remove any .SC4Model files. If you're not interested in Christmas lights and would like to trim some MB from your Plugins folder, you can remove the Christmas .SC4Prop file without adverse effects. mipro Forum Thread mipro STEX Uploads

Originally concieved as a set of twin towers, Two Detroit Center was left unbuilt when demand for downtown office space did not justify another 1.6 million sq ft skyscraper. One Detroit Center was designed by noted architects John Burgee and Philip Johnson, and was constructed in 1993 in the postmodern style, with Flemish-inspired neo-gothic spires. The building is home to many law firms and banks. Dependencies: Requires mipro Essentials December 2013 or newer. 5x3 and 3x3 growable and ploppable. Grows in Houston and Euro tilesets. Urban Police Precinct ~ By ~ Perfect for any city in the midst of decay! Included in this download are two lots big and small; the top right and left. respectively. Both precincts, regardless of size, have the ability to dispatch five squad cars. Furthermore, they have a prisoner capacity of 70 inmates. This is slightly higher than the value of the game's "vanilla" stations, for this is simply a larger building. In addition to this download, two dependencies are requried: This is my first actual building besides The Camberton. So please, do enjoy, even if it isn't the best building around. Merely a fun little project of mine to fill a tiny gap.

An old favorite comes back with fresh textures and DarkNite compatibility! The Film Exchange Building was built at the corner of Cass and Montcalm in 1926 for the distribution and booking of movies for the Detroit area. The building featured fireproof vaults for the nitrate films. By 1964, the building was mainly occupied by unions. In the 1970s, the doors were finally closed on the Film Exchange Building. A point of clarification: This version is completely remodded, so you can have both the old version AND the new version in your plugins folder and there will be no conflicts. However, if you only want to use the new version, you will want to delete all files associated with the old version. 2x3 growable and ploppable CO$$. Available in both MaxisNite and DarkNite DarkNite requires the Day and Nite Modd See the original upload here.

See me up CLOSE and personal. This is a real world map and is terrain and scale accurate, Wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer is required to import it into SC4,if using terraformer there are some caveats to follow in the readme. It measures 90.112km x 81.92km. A readme is included containing links and instructions. That's all I think. Cheers
