This is the core of southeastern Ontario, Canada, condensed to allow more creative freedom in choosing which communities to represent most, much like what Rockstar Games does with their maps for Grand Theft Auto games (the only differences being: the geography of this region is 99% the same as the geography of its real-world counterpart (only the scale is condensed,) and this isn't a spoof region with a spoof name.) Large tiles are given to Toronto/York Region/Peel Region, Hamilton/surrounding areas, Niagara, London (Ontario,) Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge, and Buffalo. Buffalo/a thin slice of New York State is included in this region because the shape and size of the region allows it to be. Size: 16x16, a mix of large and medium tiles along with a few small tiles Geography: Flat version How to install: Extract the .zip folder, then put the main folder in your Documents/SimCity4/Regions folder. -

Hawaii and Vatnajokull, two areas with active volcanoes. The thinking here is if you feel like destroying something, move some unsuspecting sims into your death area, build them up then take them down in a sadistic fashion. Vatnojakull has as many as 10 volcanoes in this area (I think you can see three quite visibly), so it would be REALLY irresponsible to build a society up on that glacier. I've been sitting on the Iceland map for a while because I didn't think it was good enough, so I decided to include a second one to try and compensate. Hawaii is a small region (20x16 Large) as far as playable tiles, but hey, it's Hawaii! Vatnajokull is 28x24 large city tiles.. I left my ReShade on in the pics for better detail. I'm pretty sure it's 'Gobias' Death Valley' terrain mod in the pics with Peg's 'Crystal lagoon' watermod. To install, simply unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. There is no need for third party software to play this map. Enjoy! P.S. It occurred to me that I left the name of one of the regions by a working name. To change the name of a region, go into the folder and find region.ini and open it with a text editor and at the top is the name of the region. Just change it to your new name and save. -

This is Rio. It's a small map at 12x12 large city tiles. There are a number of ways to give this city a Brazillian flavor. You can visit SimcityBrasil files here, https://community.simtropolis.com/files/category/67-SimcityBrasil-files/ . There are a bunch of terrain mods that would punch up this region. There's a post I found on Reddit here, ...where one of the posters gave an extensive list of terrain that would suit a South American feel. To install, simply unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. There's no need for 3rd party software to start this region. Enjoy! -

It's the land of rivers. This is one for those that like a lot of bridges! The road networks could be pretty wild as you put your knowledge of the NAM to good use with this map. It's a kind of bumpy region as well. This region is 28x20 large city tiles. To install, unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. There's no need for any 3rd party software. Enjoy!! -

Happy New Year Simtropolis! Another remote place here with Greenland. This is mostly flat up on the plateau- like interior, but man those coastlines! It's fairly tame in general but the coast should provide inspiration for somebody with interesting ideas. This region is sized at 20x24 large city tiles. I didn't use @Teirusu's snow mod here but it would prove useful because Greenland is a pretty frozen place. Another mod for snow terrain which may be as good or better (I haven't tested yet) is @Kavaeric's Antarctic mod. @Teirusu's is here-- AND @Kavaeric's mod is here-- Using these mods are simple. Create a terrain mod folder within your (documents) plugins folder ( you may already have one). Prefix the folder name with "z--" So it looks like this "z--terrain mod" and place the files from the mod in there. If you have one REMOVE it first as only one can be at play at any given time. With all terrain mods going in and out of one folder ( that you named) will be the place to go to switch out the mods easy-peasy. Just put them aside because every terrain mod is valuable and should be saved. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this map. I would absolutely LOVE to see pics of what other people have done on maps I make , so post a pic if you feel like it. To install, Simply unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. There isn't any need (right now, check 'read me') to use third party software to play. Have fun! -

Who likes mountains? The Andes mountain range is pretty impressive. This map goes: flat-mountain-flat-more mountains. If you like to drive under or over mountains, making network connections look cool and intricate, then try this one. Santiago is situated on the left side of the Andes, central-near the top. The region is 20x16 large city tiles. To install, simply unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. Enjoy! Version 2 is 32x32 Large city tiles. -

It's the Alaskan peninsula and the nice flat bay is Bristol Bay. This map is skewed a bit. It allows for more flat land on the peninsula. The map is an odd shaped one at 32x20 large city tiles. You can't lose sight of your development in region view, that's for sure! The extra screenshots are just a few of the cities. Hopefully someone sees possibilities here. To install, just unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. Enjoy, please! -

I'm pretty sure this is the most populous island in the region. The majority of the roughly 3,500 people who live in the Falkland Islands live here. This place needs a makeover of some sort. This region is 24x20 large city tiles. To install, unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. I hope you enjoy this one! -

This is the Falkland Islands. There isn't much here. Just a lot of penguins and sheep. I hear there aren't many trees due to wind erosion, which is why it's important that we fill this desolate place with trees and cities. This is a medium map at 20x20 large city tiles. To install, simply unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. Enjoy! -

This is the same map as my Random 2 map, only smaller for those who like medium over large. This one is sized at 24x24 large city tiles. As always, it seems, I encourage you to change the name of this map by opening the region.ini file in the folder with a text editor and change the top line to something more agreeable and save. To install, simply unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and fire up the game. I hope you enjoy! -

This is the second region I've uploaded called random. Random, as in, I have no idea where it is. I grabbed a high def grayscale off the internet and didn't get the deets on anything. It's a really nice region for decorating, though. It's fairly large at 40x40 large city tiles and has a bit of everything except flat areas. Random isn't a great name for a region so after you unzip to your regions folder, go into the folder and find region.ini and with a text editor, change the name at the top of the file and save so the game will start calling the region your new name. To install, simply unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. Enjoy! -

This is Baja North. The top of the peninsula This area has a bit of everything (except rivers). There are cliffs, slopes and flat areas. This region is 24x20, with all large tiles. I included the grayscale.bmp for anyone who wants to draw in rivers for better convenience. To install: unzip directly to C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. I hope you enjoy! -

This is my Baja Central, It's narrowest in the middle leading to more flatter land north. The mountain range is ever present right in the middle of the map, hampering possible development. This is a 24X20 region with large city tiles. To install, just unzip directly to C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. Enjoy! -

This is South-Central Baja. There is a lot of flat land that gradually inclines to mountainous cliffs on the east shore. This oddly shaped region is sized at 32X20, which was the best option out of 7 sizes tried. It's short to minimize empty ocean tiles (sorry for those). This one has a ton of potential decoration-wise and speaking of such, there is a terrain mod that would fit this region by Heblem over here : To install simply unzip directly into C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions. Please, enjoy! -

This is southern Baja. It ranges from mountainous to ocean nicely. Those with a cliff mod might like this map for the rocky mountainous area. This is the first of a series of Baja maps i'm going to do. The area is perfect for SimCity 4. I hope you like this map. To install: unzip the map into C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. Enjoy! -

Time for another map! This time, it's Reykjavik and Keflavik, Iceland (for SimCity 4). Reykjavik is the world's northernmost capital city (it is the capital of Iceland) and is home to 140,000 people. The map is 20 x 24 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format. I hope you can put this map to good use, enjoy! -TCC View My Full Map Catalogue Here:- 1 Review

Time for another map! This time, it's Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway (for SimCity 4). At a latitude of 78' 12'N, Longyearbyen is known for being the world's northernmost settlement with a population of over 1,000. It is located on the archipelago of Svalbard, which is under treaty status administered by Norway. Generally, any citizen of any signatory country may live and work on Svalbard provided they meet minimum income requirements and have arranged housing. Because of its extreme northern location, Longyearbyen experiences "polar night" for 111 days between late October and mid-February, during which time the sun never rises. After a brief period between mid-February and mid-April, Longyearbyen then experiences "midnight sun" for 127 days from mid-April to late August, during which time the sun never sets. There is also not a tree in sight on Svalbard. The map is 20 x 24 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. It includes Longyearbyen, Barentsburg (a Russian settlement) and Pyramiden, a ghost town and abandoned Soviet coal mine. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format. I hope you can put this map to good use, enjoy! -TCC View My Full Map Catalogue Here:- 1 Review

I have a question.... I've been dabbling with creating my own regions and I have noticed that once the region is ready to play and imported, the first time I load it, the graphics are unusual. However, once I go into each city and then save it, they look normal. I've attached a photo to show my progress in one of the regions I'm working on. Can anyone tell my why this is happening?

I, myself and I I, as in interstate, myself, as in city names, and I, as in, well, me! For those unfamiliar with my methods, and scratching your heads about what all the ridges and bumps are about, they represent the rough locations of major road arteries and cities throughout the regions. Unfortunately, I can't find any decent maps of railroads, so I kind of play it by ear(or eye) as I go. The 3 biggest challenges in this map will be the Sunshine Bridge(hint, hint creators), Alligator Alley(although a straight road, it splits between 2 regions) and the winding causeway that takes you to Key West. Anyway, enjoy. YOUR LIKES, FOLLOWS AND COMMENTS ARE MUCH APPRECIATED!

Hi fellow mayors, Is it possible to edit the size of SC4M files? I'm playing a region but it's far too big and causing performance issues, is it possible to edit the SC4M file and cut its size? I've managed to get SC4Mapper ported but it doesn't allow the size of a region to be edited I believe, and I can't manage to get SC4Terraformer ported onto my system. Could anyone help me out? Any region editor for Mac or would someone be able to edit the SC4M I want to use for me? Thanks all.

Add climate and map together into a mod package by Slink
catty-cb posted a topic in Banished's Modding
Having done the first two steps and then Include the above two in a mod package and use them in your regular game. This is a somewhat trickier process. You need to create a directory under BanishedKit\Examples, and name it Override. Under Override, create directories named Game and Dialog. Under Game, create directories named Climate and Terrain. Now, under Dialog, copy your edited version of StringTable.rsc. Under Game\Climate, copy your edited versions of Mediterranean.rsc and ClimateList.rsc. You will also need a copy of the original Fair.rsc, because your new climate references that file. Under Game\Terrain, copy your edited versions of GreatPlains.rsc and TerrainList.rsc. Into the root of Override, create a Package.rsc file. It should contain the following lines. Be sure the word "override" in the very first line is lowercase. The packaging step won't work if you use an uppercase "o". Put this down to case-sensitivity in the C programming language and don't worry about it. PackageFile override { String _name = "My Overrides"; String _author = "ME!"; String _description = "This mod adds a Mediterranean climate and a Great Plains terrain type."; int _userVersion = 1; // all files in resource directory String _includeList [ "*" ] // exclude package files, mod files, file used for building packages String _excludeList [ "Package_*.crs" "*.pkg" "*.pkm" ] } ExternalList list { External _resources [ "Game/Climate/Mediterranean.rsc" "Game/Climate/ClimateList.rsc" "Game/Terrain/GreatPlains.rsc" "Game/Terrain/TerrainList.rsc" "Dialog/StringTable.rsc:climate" "Dialog/StringTable.rsc:terrainType" ] } Next create a batch file named buildoverride.bat, in the root of BanishedKit. It should contain the following lines. bin\Tools-x64.exe /build Package.rsc:list /pathres ../example/Override /pathdat ../example/Override/bin bin\Tools-x64.exe /mod Package.rsc:override /pathres ../example/override /pathdat ../example/override/bin Create a DOS window in administrator mode. Change directory to the BanishedKit directory. Run buildoverride.bat. If everything goes well, you should find a file named override.pkm in the BanishedKit\bin\WinData directory. Copy this file into the WinData directory of your regular game. Now if you run the regular game, you can load your saves made from the toolkit version using the new climate and terrain. You can also create new games with these things. If you look under Map, however, the entries for terrain and climate are blank. Obviously I missed two new string entries somewhere. The changes still work, but the mod isn't ready to distribute. I am attaching it to this post anyway, so you can see that it works, along with the source code and the batch file. I was able to rename override.pkm to My Overrides.pkm with no problem. Some people appear not to be able to do this without breaking the mod. I am using Win 7. As an addendum, I searched and searched for another place in which to add strings. I finally decided that I had changed everything required. I loaded the saved game and checked for the text under Map. It was missing. I went to Mod, and the mod was unchecked. I checked it, told it okay for saving and reloading, and then checked Map again. The text now appeared. It may have happened when I renamed the mod, or perhaps it was because the map was created in the toolkit without an actual mod being present. Either way, the mod was after all ready for distribution, except for renaming properly. My Overrides is hardly a unique name. As a note, I use one batch file to compile and package all of my mods. Therefore I name them all "override" initially, and then rename the directory and mod afterward to an appropriate name. I do this because batch files are automatically edited by Notepad by right-clicking and choosing Edit instead of Run. Notepad when run in that fashion is not in Administrator's mode, and won't save anyplace except to Documents. Rather than continually creating, editing, and copying from Documents to BanishedKit, I just made the one batch file and rename everything else. I use another editor, in Administrator mode, for editing rsc files by simply clicking on them, so that is no problem. Theoretically I could always log on as the Administrator, instead of as a user with Administrator rights, but I was taught that is a security risk so I don't do it. -

Another week, another map, this time it's the Twin Cities, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A. (for SimCity 4). It is the capital and largest metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Minnesota, with a population of 3.69 million. The map is 28 x 20 large city tiles and is accurately scaled based on DEM data. Elevations have been compressed so that the region's many lakes are filled with game water. It stretches generally from Lakeville in the south to Oak Grove in the north and from Waconia to the west to areas in Wisconsin east of the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. The map encompasses the entirety of the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format.
