Why don't most old members get high reputation?
Shadow Assassin replied to Propfam's topic in Simtropolis Related
That'd be because I left ST wayyyyy before the rep system came in The Trixies used to be a huge thing every year, back in the 00s. --- I'd tone your attitude down a bit mate, not everyone's in it for the fame. -
City tile blank, but fine overall?
Shadow Assassin replied to TheMurderousCricket's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
In certain situations, _potentially_. Am I assuming that if this happens for you this will consistently be replicated during your play session? If so, can you bring up Task Manager before you fire up SC4 and switch to the Performance tab? You can leave it running in the background - when this odd behaviour happens, what is your hard drive doing? (if you need to check your hard drive's health, I suggest using CrystalDiskInfo to see the health status of your drives - click on the "Quick Download" button, don't worry about having to donate). In addition, do you use OneDrive or any other file backup tool at all to back up your SimCity region folder? Its sync behaviour can potentially interfere with city saving as it attempts to synchronize your local file with the cloud on the fly. Norton's still crap, if anything it'd make things worse Defender shouldn't be giving you much grief, at all, so it's probably something else. -

Shadow Assassin replied to TheMurderousCricket's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
If you alt+tab out of the SC4 application while it's saving you'll end up with a blank tile in region view. This is well-known behaviour and speculation about hard drive failures is going far off the beaten path. -
DISCOVERY: File Formats, The Unknown Formats (EDIR,AB,AE etc.)
Shadow Assassin replied to Karybdis's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Also - this is relevant to the discussion, but a lot of work has been done over at SC4D's Discord by a few of us deciphering the SC4 save game file structure. -SA -
Awesome, thanks for that 👍 I'll wait til you get the new installer up.
-
Just a FYI, it seems to be a false positive on Defender - Malwarebytes is saying the install file is clear - it sometimes pops up on unrelated files if you've had the trojan in the past at some point. I would recommend putting the file through Windows Defender's analyser if you want to be sure. However, @rivit - this isn't really expected, maybe look into the installer itself? We should be able to install-in-place shouldn't we?

bugs Simtropolis 9.0.x - Bugs & Issues Report Thread
Shadow Assassin replied to Cyclone Boom's topic in Simtropolis Related
Afternoon folks, For quite a while now ST has been showing the banner incorrectly for me on higher screen resolutions. This probably should be fixed. A quick look into the CSS shows that the banner has some incorrect CSS positioning on high screen resolutions. (incidentally, why is the banner CSS applied to the body HTML element? It'd be better off being applied to the header element directly) If you're unable to change this behaviour but can change the CSS, if you use the following, it will make it line up correctly with the rest of the site text: body { background: url(//www.simtropolis.com/custom/images/Corina-Nebula-Header-1a.jpg) top no-repeat; background-position: top center !important; background-color: #F2F2F2; } Example with the corrected CSS: This would be the ideal outcome (background-size: contain;), but because it's applied to the body HTML element it does not look right: -- SA- 1,131 Replies

The best 'reasonably priced' new PC to run SC4 as well as possible
Shadow Assassin replied to Haljackey's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
100% admit that I put together the list in a hurry on my mobile phone but I highly recommend taking on @z1's advice re: the RAM (I'm not sure about the Z690 - I do feel it's a little overkill, however the B660 is perfectly adequate for handling this tier of CPU). That said I have no idea what stores sell what in Canada so I wasn't sure what would be available there (I selected items that had a price tag still - which narrowed things down substantially). As I mentioned in Discord, it's a bit unfortunate that the 3060 is so expensive, but you do get a modern feature set for that price. AMD will be releasing the 7000 series GPUs quite soon, (or they have already, I don't know), so the 6000 series should become quite discounted. These are no slouch when it comes to modern games either. (Re: the 12600K - I actually recommended the 13600K - which has a higher clock speed, but it seems I accidentally added the 12600K instead to the parts list - add around $80 more if you want the 13600K. Both are excellent CPUs, so it's up to you -- you won't need to replace the motherboard, either, as it will work with both.) While @Haljackey has said that he is bringing over his old storage drives I recommended doing a clean install with a new SSD and using the old ones as storage drives. I personally use the 970 Evo Plus on my current PC and it's been very reliable. -SA -
Bloody hell, when was the last time I came here? When I was looking for something I got mugged in memory lane hard-core so here I am. So much has changed. I still can't believe that so many people have died or otherwise succumbed to old age (rest in peace Barby, Nonny Moose and others) - though it has been more than fifteen years. Brings a tear to my eyes.

The Principality of Gabtoria (Entry 27: Complex Roads are Complex!)

Looks like you suffered a death wave. Yep, that's what happens when you have a lot of people move in at once The game really encourages you to take it slow. -

So... Imgur isn't letting you upload Steam images? For instance you should be using this URL to copy: http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/714157961159958691/754E2175C45D60D7808A0DE81F1EE1C351D025D8/- 645 Replies

Show Us Your Skylines Interchanges
Shadow Assassin replied to Vahr's topic in Cities: Skylines Showcase
I had a lot of headaches with industry building up so I converted it to this oddity: It is remarkably efficient at moving traffic quickly. Previously trucks were backing up on the off-ramp from the motorway.- 645 Replies

Cities of the World [One Image per Post]
Shadow Assassin replied to jmsepe's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Canberra, Australia -
Maxis had the potential to get it right with Glassbox, but unfortunately they got so excited by being able to simulate every single poop in the system (for instance) they went overboard with it. They could've only used Glassbox for some parts of the simulation, rather than trying to get it to run an entire city. Doesn't matter, I doubt we'll ever see another SimCity game again.

Borrowing an interchange from McDuell... I did this one a while ago, not sure if I ever showed it publicly. This was a WIP:

"Cannot Initialize Direct Draw" After Hardware Upgrade
Shadow Assassin replied to edit718's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Check your spelling. GraphicsRule.sgr and VideoCards.sgr are case-sensitive. For example, here's my details in GPU-Z. I recommend you double-check it using the tool, if you haven't already. A fresh driver install will most likely fix it. DirectDraw failing is generally due to a driver issue. Did you uninstall the drivers when you upgraded the card from your 760? And also, this might be an important question: do any other games work? Origin and Steam do not interfere with each other so that's not going to be the issue. They have no capability to affect the game when it first initializes, only when it has fully started (for the overlay). I don't think that's helpful to the situation at hand. -
will sc4 run on a gtx 980 and windows 8, i7 haswell
Shadow Assassin replied to Sleeping Politician's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
W8.1 will be fine for all intents and purposes. As for the 980GTX, there is absolutely no reason why there would be issues running the game. If it's a fresh build, then I would expect it to be running quite smoothly. -
Desktop.. Everyone has one of these!
Shadow Assassin replied to The Milkman's topic in General Off-Topic
Sorry for not paying attention to this thread for awhile. I'll address you both: Removing the Recycle Bin and/or other desktop icons from the Windows desktop is actually quite easy, once you know how. It's even possible to change icons like I did with my wallpaper on the previous page. Just read the link I provided, .. Cheers, completely forgot about that. -

And my current wallpaper. Panoramas are perfect for this kind of thing. Shame about the Recycle Bin, though. -
Here's mine, a 2013 Toyota Corolla - had it for almost exactly a year now.

How would I go about creating this?
Shadow Assassin replied to Ocram's Razr's topic in General Off-Topic
Oh yeah, I forgot about that, sorry - I wasn't quite thinking at the time (think I was on antihistamines at the time) when I wrote that code. But it's good that you got it working, in the end. Extend jQuery whenever possible, it will save you a lot of work in the long run. I should also mention that the developer tools in Chrome can only do so much. Sometimes a Javascript function will drop through mid-way and not throw any errors, so a try...catch is good for that, but also, console.log() is useful, too - it will print variables during the course of running through a function, and will catch any problems if you've got any functions that go awry.- 25 Replies
