  1. Show us What you're Working On

Use MMPs to create the track! There's some tarmac textures on the bsc LEX, though someone may need to create race track marking MMP textures! Or some kind of modular track.
  2. Show us What you're Working On

That would be schmucks like me! Expect to see these MMPs in use when I get around to finishing off my New York recreation. Nice one.
  3. Entry 79 -- Grid-busting in East Awnsale

Thanks for that! It took me years to find a group of fillers which would blend together, but you are right, choose the fillers well and watch this game come to life!
  4. Entry 79 -- Grid-busting in East Awnsale

Entry 79 -- East Awnsale Welcome back to another entry! Thanks a lot for your comments! If there are stretches of time between entries it is simply because I've busy with story-writing and my accountancy course. But you'll like this entry as this is all about grid-busting: diagonally and fractionally angled too! {---} 1. Today's area which this entry will explore. 2. The FA highway, the M6, was the first feature of Cindersville. Thus the first areas developed were right next to this highway. 3. For the FA buildings I used a mixture of C.P.'s and mattb325's FA buildings. 4. Cindersville has the greatest number of grid-busting city blocks of any city I have created thus far. 5. Even orthogonal zoning can have grid-busting if there are diagonal or fractionally angled buildings within the lots. 6. 7. Of course not only is there grid-busting but the countryside is fully MMP-ed up as well! 8. 9. Pure diagonals. 10. 11. The buildings to the right represent the western extent of the southern half of Cindersville's city centre. 12. For the back-alleys I used MMP cobble textures. 13. 14. Further MMPing, this time creating the houses' back gardens. 15. It took a long while MMPing both the street textures and then positioning the cars. 16. Orthogonal, diagonal and fractionally angled! 17. Another overview of Eastern Awnsale. 18. What we are seeing (up top) is the southern half... 19. Now it's time to explore the northern half. 20. But one more look at those FA buildings! 21. This roundabout happened by accident, by chance I realised that there a roundabout could be used to transition from FA-2 to FA-3 roads. 22. It's a great little accident because gives the appearance of the main road splitting in two. 23. The FA buildings here are C.P.'s industrial buildings. 24. Much of the northern half of Eastern Awnsale is built upon the mountain slopes. 25. There are villages further up the slopes yet only trees, ferns and paths separate these two distinct urban areas. 26. As can be seen here: to the bottom is the mountain village, on the top is Eastern Awnsale. This mountain village WILL be explored in a later entry. 27. The bottom of the picture shows the upper slopes of Pillar, one of the three highest mountains dominating the Cindersville skyline, the other two mountains being Mount Hefnall (already explored) and Rock of Heaven. 28. 29. Why use one of the parks from the menu when one can create said park with MMPs and a tree controller? 30. This park came about due to much of the area appearing very dry and rocky. 31. I emphasised the rockiness with gravel and rock cluster MMPs. 32. 33. I deliberately chose to use ferns for the lower elevations. 34. Zooming out we catch a glimpse of the western fringes of the northern half of Cindersville's city centre. 35. And this is where we get to the really good stuff! Note Pillar in the bottom right- that WILL be explored in a future entry. 36. Nearly all of the FA buildings were created by mattb325, they form his FA civic building series. 37. This area was MEGA fun to complete! 38. It's as if SC4 is no longer a grid-based building game! 39. It also took careful use of fillers to give each one of these FA buildings a notable presence. 40. You see these FA buildings usually come in the form of a building or an overhanging building- which leads plenty of space to create building grounds, car parks and other features... 41. This would never have been possible three or four years ago. So it's amazing to see how much this game has evolved thanks to new mods, buildings and fillers! 42. And the last picture for this entry. {---} Where next? Maular Valley! This valley is a VERY special area for it is a blend of suburbs, MMPs, grid-busting and some other unique features! For next Sunday as I have Thursday and Friday off to extend out my birthday weekend. See you then!
  5. Cedar High Apartments

Very cool! It reminds me of those apartment blocks seen in Pruitt Igoe, as seen in the film Koyaaniqatsi.
  6. Show us What you're Working On

At least your fine and at least the tremor, the main earthquake and any other corresponding tremors have not shaken your computer to bits.
  7. Entry 79 -- Grid-busting in East Awnsale

Thanks for that! It wouldn't be quiet though due to the motorway and the main roads running out of the city, but it will still look beautiful. I managed to match up the trees used in the houses with the trees in the ARDEN tree controller, thus overall there is a constant theme in the trees. Previously the trees would not match up but this time they do. Laying out the grid-busting network is reasonably quick, but adding in the diagonal buildings and FAR buildings (along with all the fillers, back alleys and car parks) takes up many hours! Cheers I'm really glad you enjoyed it! {---} FYI: This Sunday I'll be posting the next entry which explores Maular Valley. The pictures have been taken, edited and are uploaded. So everything is ready to go!
  8. Entry 1 - Koria

SimCity: Slavic edition! Good job and I like your discipline in using Polish and Russian styled BATs. MOAR!
  9. Entry 79 -- Grid-busting in East Awnsale

Thank you very much! I like your Greek/Hellenistic scenes very much! Thanks a lot for your comment! The fence comes from chrisadams3997's RRP wooden fences which are very versatile. https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1888 That's great to hear! Though it takes hours building like this and it's not very natural since nearly all of the residential buildings are plopped in to ensure endless rows of diagonal housing. Thanks for that! Unfortunately once I finish a city tile that is that! There is nothing more to add and it is one to the next one. Finally, thanks to the new buildings, got SC4 to the level of Cities: Skylines. Here is to MOAR diagonal and FAR buildings! Make that tens of hours, each area was a puzzle to get right and the hardest areas were of course the FAR areas and working out to blend in those angles with diagonal buildings and the fillers available. I didn't even expect the NAM to be capable of it, but I then realised that incompletely dragged out section of FAR leaves a road stub, I few clicks later I had a roundabout, from there I decided to switch from FA-2 to FA-3 to maximize the different angles. This entry wouldn't have been possible without those FAR buildings, so thanks for that Matt! I knew there weren't enough buildings so that's when I stumbled across another idea: using diagonal houses to slot into FA-2 and FA-3 roads, it's not the perfect solution but it at least allows for FAR residential scenes. I am aware that C.P. has his own FAR housing set but these have not been published yet.
  10. Entry 78 -- Awnsale [Western Cindersville] + North and South

Thanks for your comment! The rural track is made using FrankU's Heblem paths, these are gravel MMPs. I'm glad you're enjoying these entries! Thanks for that raynev1!
  11. Entry 78: Awnsale (Western Cindersville) After three entries in the forests, mountains and wilderness its time to come back to civilization! In this green suburban entry we explore the suburbs of Awnsale which are cut in two by the M6 highway. {---} 1. Awnsale is bound by the mountains south (Rock of Heaven) and north (Pillar), this squeezes the valley and thus the boundaries of Awnsale. 2. Going from north to south. 3. This partial intersection marks the centre of Awnsale. 4. Had some fun squeezing in FLUPs and NAM turn pieces! 5. Awnsale was the one of the first areas I worked on for Cindersville. 6. 7. The bracken on these slopes belongs to the much larger Rock of Heaven which dominates the west in Cindersville. 8. 9. From west to east. 10. The M6 highway. 11. This FAR highway was the source of my inspiration to really push the grid-busting in Cindersville. 12. Sadly there are no available-to-download residential FAR buildings (though C.P. has been working on those in SimcityDevotion over the years), thus I had to make do with diagonal buildings placed against FAR roads. 13. 14. The main road, just above the M6 leads to the northern half of Cindersville's city centre. 15. Death to orthogonals! 17. 17. From south to north. 18. {---} This weekend the tour goes to the eastern parts of Awnsale (which is really the suburbs west of the city centre), so stay tuned for some diagonal and FAR goodiness! Have a good week and don't let 2021 grind you down!
  12. Regeneration of the historical center of Penthesili phase 1 completed

Really, really nice! Great use of MMPs and that curving NWM!
  13. Penthesilian Acropolis Completion

    Nicely done!
  14. Show us What you're Working On

This needs to be a CJ! The people have spoken! Oh wow! This is the coolest lot I've seen in years and you've built it so the grounds can be extended by car park, driveway and forest fillers! VERY WELL DONE here!
  15. Redevelopment of historical center of Penthesili (Projects and construction)

This is amazing! Really good job here!
  16. Show us What you're Working On

This... This is awesome! Suddenly SC4 no longer looks like a grid-based game! I for one STRONGLY recommend any and all ideas you have for junk-yards, corner shops and gas stations which fit in for FA/Orthogonal intersections and corners. Possible inspiration may come from SFBT's highway fillers, in particular the fillers which maintenance depots, shops and junk yards. Link here- https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2315 Very, very dirty... Nicely done! Would blend in well with those junk yards and garbage disposal facilities you built because they have the same filthy concrete textures. Pavlovian drooling commences...
  17. Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The best website, which I've been using since the beginning is: https://wuflu.live/ But yeah now everyone's hoping that the vaccine is more than 90%+ effective to create herd immunity and everyone is hoping that the vaccine(s) can tackle the newer variants spreading such as the South African strain and the UK strain. Put money that's we'll still be in lockdown, partial or full, by 2022 vaccine working or not working. Enjoy the lockdown blues!
  18. Show us your Small Towns

The seasonal trees elevate these pictures many multiples. Nice one!
  19. Entry 78 -- Awnsale [Western Cindersville] + North and South

That's good to hear- and thanks for your comment! Cheers! The very first thing I placed was that highway, I designed the whole city tile around that highway from the terrain, to the roads and to the very buildings themselves. I discovered these from the VIP RuralPack (https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/26806-vip-ruralpack/), these are found at the bottom of the MMP menu but they are seasonal. So plant them on 1st September game time to get the seasonality correct. My method is zone out residential, let the simulator have several passes of growth and destroy all orthogonal buildings. This ensures anywhere between a quarter to a half of the buildings are naturally grown diagonal buildings. Then, on the final pass, I use the building plop cheat and plop in the diagonal buildings over the naturally grown orthogonal buildings- this ensures the plopped residential buildings do not get the dreaded no-job zot! Also I have a lot of patience and time on weekends!
  20. Generations of Early Expansion ~ Part 2

Oh! One of those forest-clearing, settlement-building CJs, those are rare to see. You also have a way of seamlessly blending in the lot textures and grass textures which is cool. Keep it up!
  21. New Year's Entry -- Mount Hefnall

Thank you! It will be a few entries later until I back to the rural areas of Cindersville though. Didn't realise I built any campsites, but the dirt car park did take a while to build. Same here- about two minutes of scrolling and I've got ErnestMaxis' MMP project as well! You take care as well. For the terrain I use gobias' Sudden Valley terrain mod, for the rural trees I use vortext's ARDEN tree controller. Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Thank you!
  22. New Year's Entry -- Mount Hefnall

New Year's Entry -- Mount Hefnall Welcome to 2021! For this entry I present a combination of old and new pictures from both Hefnall Forest and Mount Hefnall itself. The next entry will be in a different area of Cindersville but I really wanted to show how Mount Hefnall connects to the nearby areas and to Cindersville itself. With that said, goodbye 2020 and hello to some more SC4 goodiness! {---} 1. 2. A square mosaic I cobbled together about two weeks ago. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Mount Hefnall casts it shadow on Cindersville. 8. Mount Hefnall extends westwards thanks to it's L-shaped ridge. 9. From south to north. 10. From west to east. 11. The scree-strewn top of Mount Hefnall 12. 13. Mount Hefnall's eastern slopes. 14. Had to upload this square mosaic on Imgur because Imageshack wouldn't accept it! 15. {---} For the next several months I'll be posting one entry per week due to revising for the last of my accountancy course exams. Sometimes there will be two entries in a week if I have holiday time. Aside from that, have a great year everyone! For the next entry it'll be an end to the scenes of forests and mountains, instead it'll be back to suburbs and roads. Next weekend I'll be showing you Awnsale, the area west of Cindersville's city centre.
  23. Show us your Small Towns

Your pictures are so good you should start a CJ!
  24. Generations of Early Expansion ~ Part 1

Very good job, done a good smoothly blending the textures in the diagonal scenes- good job!
