Entry 78 -- Awnsale [Western Cindersville] + North and South

Entry 78: Awnsale (Western Cindersville)

After three entries in the forests, mountains and wilderness its time to come back to civilization!

In this green suburban entry we explore the suburbs of Awnsale which are cut in two by the M6 highway.

Awnsale is bound by the mountains south (Rock of Heaven) and north (Pillar), this squeezes the valley and thus the boundaries of Awnsale.

Going from north to south.

This partial intersection marks the centre of Awnsale.

4.GiIidY.jpg

Had some fun squeezing in FLUPs and NAM turn pieces!

5.PFkRUN.jpg

Awnsale was the one of the first areas I worked on for Cindersville.

The bracken on these slopes belongs to the much larger Rock of Heaven which dominates the west in Cindersville.

The M6 highway.

This FAR highway was the source of my inspiration to really push the grid-busting in Cindersville.

Sadly there are no available-to-download residential FAR buildings (though C.P. has been working on those in SimcityDevotion over the years), thus I had to make do with diagonal buildings placed against FAR roads.

The main road, just above the M6 leads to the northern half of Cindersville's city centre.

Death to orthogonals!

This weekend the tour goes to the eastern parts of Awnsale (which is really the suburbs west of the city centre), so stay tuned for some diagonal and FAR goodiness!

Have a good week as well...!  I didn't let the quagmire of 2020 grind me down, ergo I have no intent of letting 2021 do so.

Fantastic entry! Everything looks so realistic...I love how the diagonal/far highway cuts through the landscape. *:thumb:

Death to orthongonals, indeed! This is absolutely superb. I'm wondering though, do you plop custom lots when necessary? I seem to recall that diagonal houses needed "encouragement" to grow and if you had the determination to get all of that to grow as shown then you have the patience of... someone that has oodles of patience.

Cheers! The very first thing I placed was that highway, I designed the whole city tile around that highway from the terrain, to the roads and to the very buildings themselves.

Awesome as ever! What did you use for the bracken?

I discovered these from the VIP RuralPack (https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/26806-vip-ruralpack/), these are found at the bottom of the MMP menu but they are seasonal. So plant them on 1st September game time to get the seasonality correct.

My method is zone out residential, let the simulator have several passes of growth and destroy all orthogonal buildings. This ensures anywhere between a quarter to a half of the buildings are naturally grown diagonal buildings. Then, on the final pass, I use the building plop cheat and plop in the diagonal buildings over the naturally grown orthogonal buildings- this ensures the plopped residential buildings do not get the dreaded no-job zot!

Also I have a lot of patience and time on weekends!

Thanks for your comment! The rural track is made using FrankU's Heblem paths, these are gravel MMPs.
