  1. Simtropolis Error 520: Help Diagnosing

You know, I remember seeing this sort of error at least once or twice several months ago (at some point this year, for sure). After refreshing the page a few times to no avail (the other time after an hour or so), I came back a few hours later, and it seemed like everything was working again. Every time I've gotten on this site since then, I've had no errors (minus the one or two temporary outages). I didn't realize that others were experiencing issues as well. I haven't experienced this issue in forever, it seems. Quite fascinating! I haven't been on here in a few weeks due to IRL stuff keeping me busy, but I'll be sure to let you know if I see that error or another similar anomaly in the future.
  2. I still play SC3K from time to time (not as much as I used to, but I still love it)! This is awesome very beautiful work! I would love to see your other creations here on the STEX in the future!
  3. Early diplomacy

Once again, I love the attention to detail! I probably spent a good few minutes looking at each picture. Great job yet again! It is pretty nice to see how things have progressed across all of the tribes so far. I wonder how the other tribes will react to the Altruists and the Gridlayers. It is definitely nice to see that things are still going well between the Businesspeople and the Smileyfaces. Perhaps one day the Localvores will open up more to the Altruists. Time will tell, I guess! As usual, I look forward to the next update!
  4. Are there really a limit to growth?

WOW... I have not seen that video before. That is amazing! I saw where Peter has the region available for download. I would love to see that in person! Now I really cannot wait to fire up the game again. While I have not been able to play this amazing game in a while due to IRL things taking up a lot of my time, I still come here quite often (or, when I can) to see what's up at one of my favorite websites. Anyways, I digress! I agree with Terring, @elfrjz. I think it would be amazing to see a regional megacity built with NAM and possibly CAM. With careful planning and placement, I can only imagine what is possible! A massive dystopian regional megacity... or a massive, beautiful regional megacity. The possibilities are endless, and that's why this game, with the sheer amount of content available, still amazes me today.
  5. Got a quick SC4 question?... Ask here!

For 2003, that would be a nice machine for SimCity 4 (especially when you go to upgrade the processor). Nice specs for the future build, too. Long live the SBAWE64 Gold... I love that card! I would imagine that the game would run well, even with a PCI video card instead of an AGP video card. Anyways, like Ulisse Wolf mentioned, the only downside of using an older machine with 4 GB or less is that you'll be limited to NAM without RHW or just NAM Lite. Personally, however, while RHW is pretty cool (I love it), I don't mind not having RHW when I'm playing the game on an older machine (I play with NAM-no RHW and a lot of my favorite mods/content). It's still a lot of fun either way. edit: I play with HD mods (like terrain) just fine on older machines and laptops - it really depends on the system as to how well the game will perform.
  6. Got a quick SC4 question?... Ask here!

"Retro" PC enthusiast here! Regarding 3DFx Glide support, as far as I know of, no. However, I believe it is possible to run the game on certain Voodoo cards. Which Voodoo card do you have? According to the notes in the game's Graphics Rules.sgr file, the game apparently works with the Banshee, although you'll need to turn off the color cursor (if the game doesn't already detect the card). The game requires at least 16 MB of VRAM - however, some have gotten it to work with just 8 MB of VRAM (low settings all around, of course). Honestly, unless you want to see how it runs on the Voodoo for fun (if it can even run it), you would most likely experience better performance with the GeForce card instead. Also, out of curiosity, what processor is in your W98 machine? While I prefer playing this game on a higher end system aka newer hardware, I still find it fun to play on older hardware from time to time... which is what I grew up with!
  7. The gems of Aupthilagic Peninsula

This was a very nice experience! Quite an interesting and fun look into the history of the Altruists. As always, I look forward to the next entry! I certainly enjoy them a lot!
  8. SimCity 2000 - Guide to Installation (Windows)

One of my favorites! The newspaper articles in the game are some of the stupidest yet funniest things I have ever read! The developers had a lot of fun coming up with the jokes and Easter eggs in the game. I'm sure this guide will also be quite beneficial to those who would love to get the Windows versions up and running on modern versions of Windows. I grew up playing the Windows 95 version of the game, and it really is the best version of the game! In terms of the console ports... those are truly hit or miss, haha! The PS1 and Sega Saturn versions are pretty cool (the latter I haven't played yet, but I've seen what it's like). I've played every port of the game except for the original Macintosh version and the Sega Saturn version... one day, though! I can't recommend the GBA version; it has some quirks and it's missing the water system, if I remember correctly. If one wishes to play the SNES version, be prepared for a sloooooow (yet kind of fun) experience! Great work once again, Marble1MC!
  9. RRetail Development

That's a bummer to hear, but I've felt that way before with other things. Sometimes the feeling is only temporary (for a short or long period of time), and sometimes you move on from things, too. Regardless of whether it's temporary or not, thank you for the wonderful content that you have created! I really enjoy it, and I know that a lot of others enjoy it as well.
  10. Sc3000.com down? How can we access?

Out of curiosity, I found these over at the Internet Archive. Hopefully, these are the correct ones. https://web.archive.org/web/20150807224459/http://www.sc3000.com/archives/cities/Chicago6.zip https://web.archive.org/web/20150807194016/http://www.sc3000.com/archives/cities/San_Francisco6.zip https://web.archive.org/web/20150807224509/http://www.sc3000.com/archives/cities/New_York6.zip I hope this helps!
  11. Nice guide (and welcome to Simtropolis)! I'm sure this will be helpful to users who would like to play the original SimCity on a modern version of Windows. I believe the Enhanced CD-ROM version is actually available at the Internet Archive, along with the original (V1) version of the game, the Terrain Editor, and SimCity Classic for Windows 95. I think the Internet Archive would be the best place to get those versions. When it comes to the original SimCity, I love the SNES the most, as it has more features and a great soundtrack. But every great now and then, I'll play either the Windows 3.1 version or the Enhanced CD-ROM version on my Windows 98 machine. The Enhanced CD-ROM version is pretty cool, too. When I'm not playing SimCity 4 (which is my favorite), I mainly play SimCity 2000 - it is quite nostalgic for me and it's another game that I can relax to. I'll occasionally play SimCity 3000 from time to time as well.
  12. Dig for victory...

Eight days late to the party this time! Or, if you follow the Beatles' calendar, I'm a week late! The sound of a potential conflict between the Smileyfaces and the Activators does not sound good at all. Hopefully, they'll be able to find a way to resolve everything in a peaceful, logical manner. As usual, great work - I love the amount of detail that goes into each scene. I look forward to the next installment!
  13. Searching for a few files from the old Maxis website

I found them on the Wayback Machine! https://web.archive.org/web/20120602193818/http://SimCity.ea.com/coolstuff/sc3k_music/03_SC3K_Illumination.mp3 https://web.archive.org/web/20120602193849/http://SimCity.ea.com/coolstuff/sc3k_music/06_SC3K_Infrastructure.mp3 https://web.archive.org/web/20120602194026/http://SimCity.ea.com/coolstuff/sc3k_music/09_SC3K_SIM_Broadway.mp3 https://web.archive.org/web/20120602194047/http://SimCity.ea.com/coolstuff/sc3k_music/13_SC3K_Concrete_Jungle.mp3 edit: Never mind, I thought the files were there - apparently not. My bad! The rest of the files are there, however. You might be able to find them elsewhere, though. The "SimEverything" collection does have MP3s of the those songs available. If anyone else is looking for the officially released MP3s of the SC3K soundtrack (parts of it, that is) and the SC4 Rush Hour soundtrack, go to: https://web.archive.org/web/*/SimCity.ea.com* and then type "mp3" in the "Filter results by" search box. You can probably find the artwork for those "releases" if you dig deep enough, too!
  14. SC3 vs SC3 unlimited

Perhaps this Omnibus article will be of help: Aside from four new disasters, there is no difference in gameplay.
  15. The tool itself? I'll have to ping @Cyclone Boom. We were in a convo together (I had asked Cori and CB about the river tool) and if I remember correctly, all of the messages and files were going to be copied into an actual topic, but it never came to be. I personally don't see any harm in publishing it, as it may lead to more discoveries! (not to mention, EffectDir could *really* use more documentation in general - the more knowledge of it, the better!) It might be possible to do that with some additional tweaking to the tool. Or, if it can't be done that way, there might be a workaround. That is quite intriguing!
  16. Cori and CB did manage to get a river tool (similar to what is seen above) working with a simple modification without needing a DLL mod or anything major. As of now, it is not perfect, but it is quite cool to use! The tool is still a work-in-progress. Right now, it does not modify the terrain around it (though that functionality could possibly be implemented). The functionality is in the game... it was just never fully finished! Does the water save? Unlike the rain and lake, it sort of does. Each time you open the tile, the water will start to re-flow from where you first plopped it.
  17. Time to set sails - in the East!

Ooooooh - Cabot Cove is yet another nice place in Udanani to visit or live in!! I wonder what the port information will be for it... Say what you want about them, but the Slackers can create some pretty cool things! The Mirror of Seeing would be a fun place to visit as well (excellent detailing, too!). Nice and peaceful! As usual, fantastic work! I can't wait for the next entry! I'm quite curious to see what the Activators have been up to... by the sound of it, a lot!
  18. Please DO stop the music!

The Slackers certainly haven't been slacking off in terms of making contact and establishing diplomacy with other tribes! They may not be the most appreciated tribe in the eyes of some, but they do seem to get some things done. Perhaps sometimes a bit slow and a little unorthodox, though! As usual - EXCELLENT! I like the detail in Dolittle! Despite the pollution from the nearby coal power plant and dirty industry, it seems like it could possibly be a nice place to live in (though I'd rather live in Bedroom and vacation in Cape Careless, haha)!
  19. simtropolis Miraculous News: Cori is alive!

Hiya, Cori! I hope that you are having a safe, pleasant Memorial Day weekend!
  20. Welcome to the SC2 Club

Thank you! It is pretty cool to be able to post SC2K-related content right here on Simtropolis (this is the only place on the web that I personally know of that allows users to do so)! I'll have to post some of my SCURK art eventually!
  21. Dubious possibilities...

Better late than never once again! Talk about an interesting experience! It seems to me that the Businesspeople have quite an interesting situation on their hands. With luck, they will be able to work out something. But, given everything in this entry, I think that it will definitely take some time and effort! As always, great work as usual! Cashflow is very nice to look at! I can't wait for the next entry - I look forward to them!
  22. Jays' Epic TileSet

It's always nice to see brand new tile sets for SimCity 2000! Excellent work here!
  23. The seeds of discord

After a bit of a hiatus from Simtropolis due to RL keeping me busy again (three weeks? I can't remember), I was happy to see a new journal entry! It's nice to have an update regarding the Localvores. Despite its title and the location, "Loneliest Neighborhood of New Udanani" looks like it would be a nice, quiet place to live in. As always, very nice work here (love the detail!)! Also... Cornhub
  24. Building a walkable city

Wow - I am quite impressed! Nice work, Terring! I never tinkered with PedMalls at all before, but after seeing what is now capable with the latest version of NAM and after what I have seen here, I will definitely give them a go in some of my newer cities!
  25. The first step into tomorrow...

I'm a bit late to the party here! I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend! Mine was busy yet fun, haha. As always, excellent work! Once again, the amount of detail is phenomenal. I think that Tralfamadore would be a neat place to visit (if not live in)! Lot of sight-seeing and high-tech job opportunities... nice! I think it would be fun to watch the water chute from time to time as well. That thing is cool in general! ... well, there is a lot of land to explore!
