How to make abandoned buildings look darkened?
bitsaul posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I have been playing the game a few months now (on Mac) and recently I saw that abandoned buildings in other people's cities will often appear darkened. Is there a MOD for this or is it something I have to turn on in the game itself as a play setting? I think I would find it extremely helpful to have all the abandoned buildings pointed out for me with a color change. Also, I cannot figure out how to turn music on in the game. All the settings seems to indicate it should be playing but nothing plays. The rest of the sound works fine. I mean it's only one button... Music: yes or no. Am I missing something obvious or did I purchase a flubbed-up copy of this game? -
How to make abandoned buildings look darkened?

This is what the read me says: SimCity 4 Rush Hour Expansion Pack Macintosh Version 1.1 August 2004 After installing the base package from the Aspyr agent thingy I was required to install a patch called "SC4RHMac1-1.1RevA". I have just under 4 bazillion mods, lots, and bats but none of them say anything about affecting abandoned buildings. Even if I clear out my plugins I still do not see abandoned buildings being highlighted in any way. I kind of had the feeling it was a default thing in the game so maybe I just have a copy with some bugs or maybe that is just typical of this particular publish of the game? Oh well... it's no big deal but would be helpful. If I find a cause/solution I'll update this post. Makes me wonder if I have other glitches too. Thanks for the response. -

Residents can see that coal pile towering over everything from the other side of the city. What a landmark haha. Inspiring stuff

Greetings all, I have been playing SC4 for a few months and have downloaded hundreds of BATs/lots by now and one common problem I seem to encounter is with any user-created BATs/Lots that are transit enabled. Typically, transit enabled lots freeze my game and I have to force quit the SC4 application. I have the latest version of the NAM installed that was just released for Mac and it seems to be one part of the source of error as some (but not all) of the transit enabled lots that freeze my computer with NAM installed do not freeze the game when NAM is removed. (edit: Upon further rigorous troubleshooting the NAM apparently has no effect on this transit-lot-freeze glitch) I can place all the problem lots with no difficulty as long as the simulation is paused. As soon as I run the simulation the game will freeze. All lots display correctly and with all props and such, they simply freeze when sims attempt to interact with them. Surprisingly, this happens more frequently with lots that list no dependencies versus those with many. I could use some advice on what to do or what the conflict might be. Thanks in advance. EDIT: It seems this occurs even with a completely new install and no plugins or mods of any sort running which leads me to believe it may be a patching issue because I have a 1.0 version of the aspyr agent game.

After some more troubleshooting and research I've found that Macs apparently do not get along with a host of transit enabled pieces. I first read this in a post (I think by a NAM team member) concerning High Monorail pieces vs OS 10.7.xx or higher and that many people were experiencing game crashes with these pieces. I had the same crashes but was able to cheat the problem. If my simulation is running these problem pieces/lots will crash the game. However, if I PAUSE the game I can lay the pieces/lots with no crashes. Save what I have built and exit to the region view (sometimes I have to exit the game and restart it). When I reload my city everything works perfectly! So my solution has been to do any construction with problem pieces in PAUSE mode and then save the progress and restarting the game (only a two minute process usually for me) and run the simulation while I do work with pieces and lots that I know do not give me problems. I'm certainly no expert on this stuff but the fact that these pieces do not freeze my game if I save and restart the city seems to indicate that the game is not loading some of the files in the correct order when I'm playing with the simulation on, but apparently it does find and load those files properly after restarting. I've read that this game loads files alphabetically and the importance of ZZZ___ folders, so now I'm starting to think my problem lies somewhere in that direction. For now though, I'm happily building in PAUSE

Amazing! So inspiring! -
It keeps trying to grow a lot in my medium industrial zones called "Nexis Trucking Manufacturing" but the lot is only 4x4 and it displays nothing but a parking lot texture. It lists 1288 jobs. Any suggestions on how to discourage that kind of behavior? There is only one file so whatever the growable lot is is apparently imbedded within the regular lot. The ploppable version works in all its glory (really awesome BAT!).

how-to I have NAM 32 installed on my Mac with the Aspyr Re-Release Version. Well, most of it.
bitsaul replied to brunoresende29's topic in SC4 Mac Users
We strongly discourage users from mix-and-match setups such as the one you've described. If you were to experience any sort of issue, the NAM Team would be unable to offer you any technical support, because we really have no idea what you actually have installed. If you're using the NAM 30 Controller still, anything produced since NAM 30 will not function properly, because the code to handle it isn't included. Additionally, NAM 30 is nearly 3 years old, and even in its stock form, is no longer supported (nor is any NAM 31.x release). FYI, rolling back to an older NAM will do absolutely nothing to help the Mac port issues. The issues were not reported until NAM 29, but that's only because Mac OS X Lion (the first post-Rosetta OS X version) was released during its lifetime. Theoretically, everything back to at least NAM 20 would cause issues. We are, however, quite close to having a new release whose sole purpose is to fix the Mac port issues, which will be called NAM 32.1. It will also include an installer for the first time, allowing an experience similar to the Windows installation procedure. As with all our releases except NAM 31.0, there is no release date or timeline for release. We will make an announcement when this new version is available, and not before. -Tarkus It was quite an education lol. On the positive side it taught me a huge portion of what I need to know about modding this game while trying to get the piecemeal NAM working. Now that I've installed the newest version (32.1) and deleted all the old stuff I am blown away by how awesome the NAM truly is!! I can't thank the NAM team enough for the apparent years of effort (now that I've read some history) that it takes to get something like this working! You are code gods. The only issues I currently have are with the elevated rail stations and the high monorail pieces which freeze the game after plopping them. No big deal really. The interface is sexy and easy to use. For example, two of the newest lots on the st/exchange freeze my computer: the MM_Underground_Parking and the RHW 4s and 6s toll booths. It happens immediately as soon as I click the plop button. I'm working on a proper list of what doesn't work for me currently.
