  1. LA Terrain

Hello wonderful people, Ive never gotten as far west as LA. Been to Vegas! I image the landscape in Southern California is different. Im also guessing its different in the summer than the winter. I was wondering what Terrain Mods people out there would say is the most accurate. I looked through Corie's terrain shoppe and there are so many that are close to what I imagine id say. The one I have now is just too bright green and cartoony looking. For trees im using Girraffe. Although I think that's running on a seasonal mod. Idk Anyway... yeah leave your suggestions on the TERRAIN! We can go into the trees later.
  2. I'm working on a region and want to be able to have extended beaches/sandy flats. I've modified the parameters in my terrain mod to show beach texture for 2 meters above sea level and 0x99 for depth from water surface. I use the Cascadia seasonal tree controller for vegetation, but want to know if it's possible to edit the parameters to only grow sparse vegetation on the beaches (between 250 and 251.9 m)? I use the god mode tree brush and blanket my tiles; it would be nice if they could give me more realistic "sand dune"/coastal vegetation. Or is there another tree controller that would be better for this?
  3. I want to run this terrain mod: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2867 It is HD and requires hardware rendering. What is that and how do I do it? Thanks in advance for your time.
  4. Hi everyone! I need some help. I'm making a bunch embankment filler lot modifications (relots, overwrite lots etc...) for Jrj New Concrete Diagonal walls and Mas71 Wall set 2. I give them multiple base texture options such as pavement (depends on your sidewalk mod), concrete (to match with the IRM and the SAM 11), dirt (to match with the dirt textures next to the RRW tracks), and made overwrite option for the terrain grass texture which adapting the used terrain textures. I'm using the NHP ENN slope mod (315 version) and since I'm using Sudden Valley which is not covered by default with the diagonal jagged edge mod (DJEM), I followed some instructions which I found on the download page and modified the terrain mod property examplar to get the same effect. But the slopes are only appearing properly on the north-west/south-east axis, and they appeared to be zig-zag/messy on the north-east/south-west axis. See the comparing pictures below... I don't know if it's a game limiation or something with my set-up is not quite right, because later I removed the SV terrain mod and used the default maxis terrain with the default maxis DJEM and I got the same results. Is there any solution to get the same proper result on all rotation/orientation? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! - Tyberius
  5. Day/Night mod question

I recently installed Gizmo's Day/Night mod only to discover it was conflicting with custom terrain mod I've pieced together, changing my snowline, etc. Investigating the problem with ILive's reader, found a 'generic' terrain exemplar inside Gizmo's mod causing the conflict. Deciding to experiment, I deleted the terrain exemplar in Gizmo's mod that was causing my snowline to descend , saved the altered mod, and gave the change a brief test with a plugin folder holding nothing but my terrain mod texture bash (it uses textures from 3 different terrain mods) and my favorite tree controller (with it's dependencies, of course.) So, I ask other other users, looking for experienced hands who understand day night mods. Am I missing something? Was the terrain exemplar in Gizmo's mod actually unnecessary? Everything seems to be working right, nights look the appropriate/expected shade for the mod, and the transition between day and night looks the same as when I tested Gizmo's Day/Night mod with an empty plug-in folder. I'm curious if anyone else has gone down such a path? It would seem better to simply delete extraneous exemplars rather than mess around with loading order, as it would prevent unnecessary files that are only going to be overridden from needing to be loaded. Or, as I asked before, am I missing something?
  6. Cori's Terrain Shoppe by CorinaMarie@Simtropolis A picture catalogue of every known Terrain Mod for SimCity 4 Note: I did not create any of these mods. This thread is simply to display each terrain mod using the same city tile for easy comparison. If you find this useful feel free to use your browser's Save As function and do a Save Complete Web Page. This will give you an offline copy with all the pictures. My content is freely available for use by anyone. You can even make a duplicate thread on any other site if you like. Please, just be sure to give me credit for the original creation. The first three Terrain Mods are hosted on both the LEX and the STEX and have slightly different names, but are the same mods. So, you only need the left hand side or the right hand side as separated by the slash. Ofc, the ones on LEX require a separate login. If you haven't signed up there I highly advise it. They've got great content too. (And a side note, the registration for the LEX is separate from the SC4Devotion forums.) The linkys that are indented in a bullet list (like this) are the dependencies. You'll notice a lot of duplication of the those deps. If you get the CPT No3 & No4 once, you do not need to re-get them for other terrain mods that require them. For peeps with 16:9 (or other wide screen) monitors you could open this thread in two separate windows side by side. This would allow you to have independent scroll bars to compare specific mods. It would also work if you have dual monitors tho there may be some slight color difference between the two. Other Threads in Cori's Shoppe Series: Cori's Rock Shoppe (Linkys to and Pictures of every Rock Mod) Cori's Water Shoppe (Linkys to and Pictures of every Water Mod) Cori's Side Water Shoppe NEW! – March 2022 (Pictures and in topic Downloads of the Water's Edge for every Water Mod) Cori's Beach Shoppe (Linkys to and Pictures of every Beach Mod) Cori's Jolteon's Ferrians's Tree Shoppe (Linkys to and Pictures of almost every Tree Mod) And see: C.O.R.I.M.A.P.S. - A Tutorial for SimCity 4 (Quick alternative realistic map making method) Note: I have the Beach Extend Mod 1.0 installed for more beachiness. Otherwise, it's all vanilla. So, what you see is what the complete mod does. Some have Cliff (rock), Beach, and Water. Or some combination. Or only the terrain itself. If you download a mod and have any difficulty with it and when all else fails, read the ReadMe instructions that comes with it. Note 2: The following images were shot on my low end system at 1280 x 1024 resolution. See @rsc204's post later in this thread for comments on how you can improve the look on your system and for a linky there to a tutorial on how to do that. 7. I'm trying to find and remove the dat for this water mod, since it is interfering with my other terrain mods sometimes. Does any one recognize this mod? It looks kinda glitchy when max zoomed out, but when max zoomed in, theres extremely faint grid lines among a featureless dark blue surfce, like in my uploaded screenies. Can anyone recognize this water mod? Edit: After resorting to the trial by error method of removing one folder at a time, i found the culprit to be JRP_WaterMod_Beta.dat in the JPR Addon Lot Pack 02>xx_Options directory.
  8. I want to create a semi-desert highland type region, for example like Montana in U.S. or sub-siberian regions in central Asia. I would like the terrain to be light orange/reddish like laterite soil. The terrain should be rugged & rough. Can anyone please suggest any terrain mod for this purpose? Also it would be of great help if anyone can suggest me good flora mod for this type of region (especially spikey, cactus type of trees). Any suggestion for any fauna mod for above region would also be great! Note that my pc is really hopeless at handling hd mods so please suggest sd mods.
  9. Yesterday I switched from the Painted Desert terrain mod to the Appalachian terrain mod. In order to run this terrain mod, I had to switch to hardware mode (DirectX). Now I'm getting excessive vertical garbled graphics and intermittently vanishing textures. Based on other threads I've seen about this problem, it's likely that my laptop's integrated graphics card is at fault here. I'm running Windows 8.1 (64-bit), I don't have the other specs for this computer. What do you think and how can I fix it?
  10. For those of you who don't venture over to the SC4Devotion too often, you may be pleased to hear that the SC4D staff has decided to re-enable Gobias's amazing HD terrain and water mods on the LEX. The decision was not made lightly; only after some debate over the creator's rights vs. those of the community was a decision reached. Read it here. For now, however, those who have been searching need search no more! Download from the LEX
  11. Terrian mod won't die!

So I downloaded Heblem's San Faraway terrain mod and while it worked fine, I decided to replace i with the Italia Terrain mod. Problem is, even after I got rid of the .dat files and installed he Italia mod, it's still there! How do I fix this, I can't seem to find the folder for Heblem's files any where either.? EDIT: False Alarm, I had couple other files in another folder that were causing it to show up.
  12. I'm having a weird issue that occurred in the last days to me. The picture may probably explain itself: What happened so far: A few days ago, I switched to another terrain mod (Sudden Valley) while playing on another region. I frequently suffered from crashes during playing (not on loading a region/city, however, and I had Hardware Rendering on), so I thought these might be related to the new terrain mod. This prompted me to temporarily remove the terrain mod; (I don't actually need help on this issue, I'm just explaining it to make clear what I've done so far and why.) however, it seems that I forgot to remove some files because after starting a new city, the terrain still looked the same. After that, I started a new region by clicking on the in-game "Create new Region" button - just for the purpose of testing a new plugin. I started one city (the one that is not raised). I had no issures whatsoever, and I wanted to try if the crash issues are anyhow related to the new terrain mod, so I've installed the Sudden Valley terrain mod again (by just copying the files which I had backuped before back into the Plugins folder). After that, I started the other three cities. But for some reason, whenever I'm starting a new city, the terrain is mysteriously being raised, I'm not clicking the in-game "Raise Terrain" button. This occurs the same moment I'm entering a new city, it doesn't happen when loading a city I've already saved on this region (whether before or after re-installing the Sudden Valley terrain mod). I do assume that this terrain raising issue is somehow related either to the Sudden Valley terrain mod or to some mistake I made while doing all of this. It doesn't actually bother me on this testing region at all, but I'm running a MD over at sc4devotion, and I don't want to ruin it. My questions: Does anyone know why this happens? And what can I do to prevent this issue from happening? I know basically how to use iLive Reader, but I don't know which properties to change exactly.

UPDATE: new cliff texture that matches orange rock better. An orange and white sandstone desert mod, loosely based onthe Colorado Plateau area of the southwestern US. This mod changes the ground textures of undeveloped areas of your city to give it a southwestern US look. Lower elevations are orange sandstone or orange dirt/gravel, with areas of sagebrush or other sparse vegetation. Higher up is a band of white rock/dirt/clay, (also with sparse vegetation in some areas.) As the elevation increases above the band of white rock/dirt/clay, the terrain becomes more densely covered with sagebrush, and then, above the sagebrush, green and grassy. On very high mountains, you will find flowering alpine meadows, rock outcroppings, scree slopes, and snowy ravines. So really, you get a lot of variety with this mod if your terrain has a lot of variation in elevation. This mod is not compatible with other terrain mods, (such as the Snowcapped terrain mod, the Desert mod, the Columbus mod, the Missouri Breaks mod, the Olympic mod, the Moab mod, etc) but it is compatible with custom beach textures, custom water textures and custom cliff textures (such as Peg's cliff mods). CRASH ALERT!: You must have both of the following files installed when using this mod or the game will crash to the desktop when you try to open a city. This pack includes mods to change the terrain in the game to look like different regions of the world. The current version includes: -- Scrubby Desert -- Reddish Scrubby Desert -- Sandy Desert -- Tropical (wet) -- Grassland/Prairie There are also two optional versions of each: Spread - Spreads the textures over a wider range of elevations, for cities with exaggerated vertical scale. Low - Shifts the textures down in elevation, for cities with a low vertical scale and close to sea level. You can now create or customize your own terrain with this tutorial: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=56585 Additional textures might come in the future. These mods have no dependencies I'm aware of, and can be installed or removed at any time (cities will need to be reloaded to update the region view). Read the Readme! Version 2.3 - Added Reddish Scrubby Desert Version 2.2: - Revamped almost every texture table - Added four new _Low versions - Added Green Beaches optional file - Renamed Rocky Desert to Scrub Desert 2.1 - Fixed some mistakes in the Spread versions' texture tables 2.0 - Added Tropical - Wet and Grassland terrain, and Spread versions of all four 1.0 - First public version, included Rocky and Sandy Desert If you encounter any problems with these mods please E-mail me.
