The Alaska Building is Seattle, USA's first skyscraper. It was built in 1904 to promote business ventures between the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. It comes to SimCity 4 as a 2x2 corner lot for the Chicago 1890 and New York 1940 tilesets. Celebrating 20 years of SimCity 4! January 14, 2003 - January 14, 2023 2x2 growable and ploppable CO§§§ lots. MaxisNite and DarkNite versions included. DarkNite requires the Day and Nite Modd. Requires mipro Essentials - December 2015 or newer. Installation Instructions: Download either the DarkNite (DN) or MaxisNite (MN) version. If you're unsure, choose the MN version. Unzip the .zip and move its contents to Documents/SimCity4/Plugins. If you don't already have them, download and install the dependencies, linked above. SC4Lot files are descriptively titled. Another wall to wall Boring Little Building™, a 2x2 CS$ lot based off a small Seattle business located in the international district. We don't seem to have many custom auto repair lots, and I wanted a wall to wall style garage for the grittier urban/industrial transitional areas. I don't know who made the model of the car I used in the garage, it's one I found online for free but if there was any issue with that I could rework it. I used a 'Free Spot' light for the interior night lighting and I'm a little conflicted on how it looks but more happy than not I guess, leave your feedback if you think it doesn't look satisfactory. Two optional dependencies: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1180 https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/32980-sm2-mega-prop-pack-vol1/ -

Another boring little building from the University district in Seattle, a corner apartment building (2x3 R$) with a pharmacy on the ground level. The pharmacy is a Bartell Drugs which I integrated into the same fictional franchise as the pharmacy I made a few weeks ago, with the same neon sign. Tailored to be a wall to wall building that sits on a corner, with the old fire escape still hanging right on the front of the building. Hadn't worked on a building of this size yet, and a lot of the textures were not really what I wanted because Gmax was crashing constantly again, so I want to go back and tweak those at some point. Also not sure why they named it 'The Avenue Apartments', neither street it corners is marked as an avenue... -

Another little wall to wall building in Seattle's University district, just a few doors from the Gelb Building I also made. CS$$ with 57 jobs, designed to be a middle piece in a wall to wall block so it doesn't have much of a side texture. Made this one more to scale with the actual building so it's 2x3, larger than most w2w lots, especially for a 1 story building but it's not uncommon to see a single story building among much larger buildings in large cities streets where the buildings are wall to wall and I felt we needed more of these. Also the rear of the building is on an incline so I had to improvise it a little. Something about the roof doesn't look quite right to me so I will probably update this one too at some point. -

A little wall to wall building in Seattle's University district from the 1920's. CS$$ with 59 jobs, this is a condensed version, the building should probably be 1x3 but most W2W lots are 1x2 so I figured it would fit better as such, and it also looked a little weird when I stretched it out. The night lighting was very uncooperative so I had to settle on the default BAT nite windows, but I will probably go back to that if I ever learn night lighting properly. Still new to this so there could be issues with it... and thanks again @mattb325 for the tips with this one. -
Welcome to my new City Journal! All Cities shown are inspired by reality, but may have subtle differences with their real-life counterparts. These differences may be due to game constraints... or... just because. We'll start off on the US West Coast. Seattle, Washington is the largest city in the US state of Washington. There are over 3 million people living in the Greater Seattle Metropolitan Area, which is known for its naturally beautiful surroundings, rain, coffee and Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks and Costco, all of which are headquartered here. Another major company, Boeing, was founded in Seattle and still has significant operations in the area, though its corporate headquarters was moved to Chicago. Below, is a picture of downtown Seattle during the afternoon commute. Interstate 5 runs through the downtown area and is often congested. There are, however, Express Lanes that run parallel to the general purpose travel lanes. This is, in my opinion, one of the coolest stretches of interstate freeway in the United States as there are multiple tunnels and ramps as well as the close proximity to the Seattle skyline. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport also known as "SeaTac Airport" is the primary commercial passenger airport serving the Seattle metropolitan area and is one of the busiest airports in the world. It serves many US-domestic routes, as well as international routes and non-stop flights to cities in Asia and Europe. It is a hub for Alaska Airlines and Delta Airlines and is currently undergoing renovation and expansion. Below is the new skybridge that links the South Satellite terminal (used primarily for international flights) with the Main Terminal, allowing passengers to "walk over" the planes. Portland, Oregon is the largest city in the US state of Oregon. There are approximately 2 million people living in the Portland-Vancouver-Salem Metropolitan Area. Portland is known for rain, coffee, donuts, beer, food carts, biking and outdoor lifestyle. Many Portlanders pride themselves in "Keeping Portland Weird", though the city and region has been one of the fastest growing in the nation in recent years. It is the setting for the comedy television show Portlandia. Downtown Portland, shown below, is known for its small, walk-able blocks each measuring 200 by 200 feet (or 4x4 in SC4) as well as its "park blocks" (entire city blocks dedicated to green space). The tallest building in Oregon, the Wells Fargo Center, pictured below, is 546 feet, 41 stories tall. It has been the tallest building in the state since 1972 and no building is expected to be taller in the foreseeable future, as the City has a strict height limit in the downtown area to protect views of the nearby West Hills and of Mount Hood. The Lloyd District in Portland is home to the Lloyd Center Mall, once billed as America's "largest outdoor mall". It was covered, expanded and renovated into an indoor mall in the early 1990's. In recent years, the mall has become somewhat dilapidated and there are rumors that the site may be used for a Major League Baseball Stadium as part of an effort by Portland to lure a professional baseball team. The Lloyd District is also home to the Oregon Convention Center (pictured below) as well as the Moda Center, home of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers basketball team. Fremont, California is a suburban city in Alameda County, California. It is located in the San Francisco Bay Area along the Bay's eastern shore (also known as the "East Bay"), approximately 30 miles south of Oakland and 15 miles north of San Jose. Fremont has an estimated population of 238,000 residents. It consists of primarily suburban residential and commercial strip malls and industrial areas. It is also home to the Tesla factory, where the famous electric car maker currently manufactures its Model S, Model X and Model 3 vehicles. The Tesla Factory is located along Interstate 880 and Mission Blvd. and is also located next to the Union Pacific Railroad line and the new BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Silicon Valley Extension. Los Angeles, California perhaps needs no introduction. It is the second largest city in the United States with an estimated population of almost 4 million people within the city limits alone. It is the economic center of the Greater Los Angeles area which has an even greater estimated population of almost 14 million people. Los Angeles County and nearby Orange County are the largest counties by population in the United States and LA ranks 3rd/4th largest GDP (by city) in the world. It's known best for Hollywood, movies, television and celebrities, but it is also incredibly diverse both demographically and socio-economically. Downtown LA, pictured below, is home to many corporate offices and hotels. Historically, it tended to clear out after every one got off work... but in more recent years, there has been a real push to develop more residential and housing in the downtown area. The Columbia Center, formerly named the Bank of America Tower and Columbia Seafirst Center, is a skyscraper in downtown Seattle, Washington. The 76-story structure is the tallest building in Seattle and the state of Washington, reaching a height of 937 ft (286 m). At the time of its completion, the Columbia Center was the tallest structure on the West Coast; as of 2017, it is the fourth-tallest, behind buildings in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Columbia Center, developed by Martin Selig and designed by Chester L. Lindsey Architects, began construction in 1982 and was completed in 1985. The building is primarily leased for class-A office spaces by various companies, with the lower floors including retail space and the upper floors including a public observatory and private club lounge. The tower has the tallest public viewing area on the West Coast and west of the Mississippi. It occupies most of the block bounded by Fourth and Fifth Avenues and Cherry and Columbia Streets. Seattle, Washington, USA (Update 19: Seattle Municipal Tower)
Roadman20 posted a topic in Cities: Skylines City Journals
Entry 1: Beginnings of Seattle, Washington... and early setbacks/rebuilding. Hello everyone! As most of you know by now, I've been showing off bits and pieces of my work in progress of building Seattle, Washington for Cities:Skylines. I feel it is time for me to consolidate my progress work in a CJ place so I can share and you see my continual work in as close of an interesting city. Some background on myself, I've loved SC4 finally came back to the city simulator world when Cities:Skylines came out. My decision to build Seattle is due to living in the Pacific Northwest, although not in the city itself, for a number of years and the challenge it presents to a city planner. So without further ado, presenting Seattle! I took Steam workshop map of Seattle and then I roughly recreated the regional highway network. This work goes back sometime before After Dark. It was here that began my work on perfecting multi-level interchanges with the signature work on the Interstate 5 and Interstate 90 interchange. This is first version built in map editor, obviously not perfect. You'll see throughout this journal the gradual improvement on this design, which influences how I build interchanges now. As you can see, learning the finer details of onramp/offramp placement is pretty key to making good looking interchanges. Too bad there was not any retaining walls at the time... Oh hey, look sunken wall assets are made. This was my first real test of using them to prop up a hill slope while using duckclog's pillars. Unfortunately, I only had a single save file at this time of Seattle and the save file was corrupted. Well, it was a learned lesson to have two save files of that ever went down again... but the corrupted file incident provided an opportunity to rebuild in a more correct way. I started Seattle again in the southern industrial heart near the I-5/I-90 interchange and made some immediate build changes. First, Holgate Street Bridge and rebuilding Interstate 5 as elevated viaduct highway as it should be through this area. Second, rebuild western termius of Interstate 90 near Safeco and Century Link Fields. Rebuilding the Interstate 5/Interstate 90 interchange in it's third and final configuration. Sorry about the quality of this particular shot... As noted that new placement means a new alignment of the rest of Interstate 90 northward eventually. Note that Interstate 5 is fully elevated now throughout this shot compared to earlier shots. Finally, overview of Pioneer Square, Sodo, and Industrial Districts. Plus, early work on Seattle CBD layout. Next time, the challenge of building Interstate 5 through the Convention Center.- 194 Replies

G'Day Simtropians, Today I am presenting a map requested courtesy of Etorsen here at simtrop, thanks mate. Seattle is the largest city in Washington and home of Boeing and sometimes referred to as the jet city. See me up CLOSE and personal. This ia a real world map and measures 73.728km x 61.44km. It was produced with dem and satellite data and utilises 16bit mapping technology. Being in .SC4M format one requires Wouanagaine's terraformer or mapper to import it into one's game. The map is terrain and scale accurate. A readme with links and instructions is included free. That's all I think. Cheers- 15 Comments
