  1. Show us your Airports!

    Thanks, I'll check it out!
  2. Show us your Airports!

I like your airport! I also like your water mod... which one is that?
  3. Can't find it?... Ask here!

This building with the mural on it? from clhigh7's CJ https://community.simtropolis.com/journal/1618/entry-7667-up-and-running-again-picture-time/
  4. DK35 1100 Superior Avenue

    Hooray for Cleveland buildings!
  5. No job in another way? Stucked

I had a similar problem, where I had tons of available jobs, and was still getting the "no jobs" zot. The problem occurs when you have avenues connecting to neighbor cities, and jobs whose entrances face those avenues. The avenues have two lanes: residents can get to jobs on the side of the avenue that has the lane exiting the city, but not on the side with the lane that enters the city. The best way to fix this is to make sure that traffic has a way to turn around and onto the other lane of the avenue. Do this by having a road or street cross the avenue near the point where the avenue connects to the neighboring city. Make sure there are no buildings that face the avenue between that turnaround and the neighbor connection. I hope this solves your problem.
  6. Fo some rewards, you are required to have x amount of neighbor connections. Does this mean traffic connections? Do subways count. Thanks.
  7. @A Nonny Moose: Thanks for the tips and the lovely pic! I'm aware of the technique of using small islands to connect surface transport, but was hoping I could avoid them. Subways and ferries are a non-issue; it's too bad we can't build bridges and tunnels across borders. @Ro-Bo: I didn't know about that one either. Reading the comments on it, it seems to answer my question that roads are indeed needed for neighbor connection deals. Unfortunately, it doesn't actually allow traffic.
  8. Paper Pushers

    Fantastic as always!
  9. 3D clouds

This looks really nice! I'm not sure what the members above me are referring to, but I'm sure all the evidence has been hidden by the time I saw this masterpiece. I like my dark-night-sky-and-stars background, but again, this is gorgeous! I may switch to this in the near future for a welcome chance of pace!   EDIT: If you didn't mention the seams, I never would have noticed them.
  10. Show us your Downtown!

I see that. It looks a bit sloppy though. You could smooth out that area by using the plopping-single-unconnected-road-tiles-next-to-each-other method and even use the "setsealevel" cheat to form the land under the water. You could even play around with monorail bridges there.
  11. Thanks guys. I ask because I'm terraforming a region and I'm not sure how to deal with my "main/Utopian/CBD" city tile. If neighbor connections increase demand, then it would be ideal to have 4 bordering neighbor connections (when using all same-size tiles, in my case large). If ferry connections count, then I can have water all along a side of my CBD city. If road/train/etc. connections are needed, then I need land connecting each side of my city tile to its neighbor. It would be amazing if bridges could be placed across borders, but then, most of this game's fun comes from figuring out how to best use the options you're given.
  12. Show us your Downtown!

Mark_Kochan, I like your city. Are you using any mods other than NAM? I just recently got into the mods myself, and they will make you rethink everything. Prepare for months of downloading, and then more months of planning before actually playing the game if you do choose to look at mods.
  13. Show us your Oddities!

City_Master, I was loving that region. Please tell me you were able to reboot and all was well!
  14. Major Port

I also had to comment on the two statues. I had many plans for utilizing those statues myself, and I'm disappointed that it never crossed my mind to use them as you did.
  15. 1880 Census – Between Two Cities

I look forward to seeing updates on this CJ as much as any. What building is that with the mural from pic 4?
  16. Chapter 1: Hangover

    more please!
  17. Street/Sidewalk Mods

I'm looking for a good street/sidewalk mod. Which do you use or recommend?
  18. Update 2: Exploring Fordmouth, Part One

    looks nice!
  19. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Where can I find this building in the lower left: the one with the sexy billboard and the sign that says "Peta"?
  20. Maxis Seasonal - Residential & Commercial Lots

This is amazing! Well done. My only concern is that it may not be compatible with pc wiz's realism mod. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I like that mod, would like this mod too, and clearly am not an expert on compatibility.
  21. T3

Too bad there's only been one submission for each of the two rounds so far. On the bright side, they have both been fantastic!
  22. Show us your Region!

If you're going for a waterless desert region, that's cool. But that region looks large enough for a large coast or cape—let alone a lake. I assume those are large city tiles in your region, which are each big enough to fit at least one lake. I do think your region looks great, so please don't get me wrong. I'm just particularly someone who likes terrain variety in his region, and it looks to me like you have more than enough flat city tiles and no water at all. If you're going for 100% realism, then perhaps water in a desert isn't wise. I would get bored with all those flat, waterless tiles and I love all the seaport/beach/waterfront mods available. If you look at the entire NHP Palm Springs map I downloaded, it is VERY big, 8x8 large city tiles. Thats why I am starting out with a portion. And all but 2 of the tiles with development are medium, because I too get bored without terrain variety. If you look at all my other cj's, I would have a large region with tons of water and mountains and farms, because I get bored and stressed by simcity4's "slowness" when I have flat, large city tiles. When I expand the map to include more of the original. I was thinking about making a lake, since the original has lots of flat land, look below. I would easily get bored with that map, so I completely know where you are coming from... I just caught your update from the front page. You're clearly more advanced in SC4 than I. Nice to see some close up shots. With that complete Palm Springs map, I think it would look nice and natural with a river stretching across the central flat parts. Again, it's all up to you and your aesthetic. Just trying to be helpful and tell you what I would do with it. [but I would totally turn it into a massive cape and scrape the elevation to the northeast].
  23. Show us your Region!

If I did put water, which would be hard since the entire terrain is "super high", a lake would be best, even though its in the Mojave Desert, home to Death Valley, Las Vegas, and its the hottest desert in North America, and one of the hottest in the world. https://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1C1RNCN_enUS335&q=lake+pleasant&ion=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47244034,d.dmQ&biw=1440&bih=785&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=N&tab=wl https://www.google.com/search?q=Lake+Pleasant,+Peoria,+AZ&ion=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47244034,d.dmQ&biw=1440&bih=785&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=N&tab=lw My map is too small for a lake, though I could expand it and do something sort of like lake pleasant, which would be the easiest thing to do since I go there all the time. And also, I don't think a coastline would work in the mojave, california isn't an island yet lol If you're going for a waterless desert region, that's cool. But that region looks large enough for a large coast or cape—let alone a lake. I assume those are large city tiles in your region, which are each big enough to fit at least one lake.
