Welp.. iit's update time!! Albeit a mini one.. I've just gotten my plugins folder almost up to snuff.. just a few more things I've got to track down and we're in business once again! I'm not leaving y'all empty handed once again though... here's a small tidbit that shows one of the upcoming areas to be featured. Whoo, relatively new commercial district in Capilano. And yes, oil companies bought out a half a block for the purpose of putting signs up. The crowd is faithfully there, however, protesting the...

Heart of the Valley

Iiit's update time! Yay! Finally! A nice big mosaic that should soothe you for now.. Brand new developments coming up next update. Hopefully tomorrow or Sunday!

Terrace Park Mosaic

Iiit's update time! I got a little busy working today and so I thought it couldn't hurt to throw another update at you guys. Lets face it.. I've been converted into a mosaic fan. And just another quiet church near the highway on the edge of town. That's all for today, folks.. just a small one.

Around the Valley V

Iit's update time! The hotel is done! Yipee hooray! Where Capilano gets its power. And, just a random shot of commercial and residential meeting up. Whoo, go sprawl go! Well, that's all folks! Sorry for the slow updates lately.. been busy with work and the news of the new SimCity. Exciting stuff! Hopefully things should pick up this week. Keep checking in!

Around the Valley IV

Iiit's update time! Just pretend there's a newspaper here, mmkay? CapVal Region Shot! Lookit how purdy it is! Look at how big it's getting.. Well, here's my smoothening of the intersection. Thank god for Andreas sacrificing his birthday for the sake of the new NAM. Here's a newish part. There's plans to add an extension from the road that branches off, to meet up with the avenue after the intersection. The plan for this was to smooth the traffic leaving the city from the north. As you can see, it dunks...

Road Expansion

Iiiit's update time! I have got to get working on that newspaper I keep blindly promising you all.. Well, the city decided to do a little work on its roads. This one here is jam packed come rush hour, and pretty busy during the middle of the day. As you can see, however, there is much room to work with for the city to expand. Here's a look at the other side, where the road merges onto the avenue. With so much traffic, that becomes nearly a bottleneck from 4:30pm til 7pm. Here's a look at the upgrade (dang...

Big Box Power Center II

Iiiit's update time! *wheeze*.. sorry guys, had a busy week. Hopefully this update should make up for it! Commercial area has expanded down near where the new hotel construction is. That has been delayed still, because of the fire, but it's slowly getting back on track. Just as a note, this is a continuation of where the commercial in the previous update left off. Wal-Mart! BMO! McDonalds! Blockbuster! Happening little town indeed. The intersection has been re-done here, to allow smoother access off the...

Terrace Park

Woah, man! New commercial! Crazy terraced park! Now some of you might be wondering "How'd he do that?".... The land was already sloped when I got there, all I needed to do was make the terraces. Quite simply, I picked a piece of land at the right height and plopped a road down. Just one. Then keep hobbling along like that, one at a time. Of course, you'll end up with a patchwork of one blops of road all over, but that gets cleaned up later. This is just to level it out. Keep blopping. You can use the roads...

Neighborhoods Reborn

Things are coming back together! Here's a shot of a previously burnt down section. Coming along nicely, if I might say so myself! You can see the new park that runs alongside the river for a very long stretch. I'll see if I can't have a region shot for you all on the next update. One of the more headline areas of the new park. The stream and the pond are both man-made. I showed a shot like this earlier in the CJ. 10 points and a gold star to he who can find it on a region shot I've posted. That's all,...

Houses Rebuilt

Iiiit's update time! Alrighty... here's one of the mostly burnt buildings that's being left. The crane is simply removing rubble... the whole area will become parkland, and the roads are being removed as you can see. As for the second building I promised, I'll have to break that... it couldn't be prepared in time. I'll show you once it's ready though! You won't be disappointed. Trying to move things along a bit, this used to be the slum housing. Half of the streets have been adapted into alleyways, and the...

Deconstruction Underway

Iiit's (finally) update time! The cleanup of the southside is nearly complete.. all that's left are two buildings, which I'll be showing you next update. Both will be prominently placed in an expanded park along the river valley. Much will be changing on the south side! But you'll just have to wait and see! Since the old Arbordale Stadium was destroyed in the blaze, the team plans to construct a new, larger facility on the spot of the old one. This is the current plan pitched to the city (worry not.. it...

Capilano Courier

Iiit's update time! For real! Thar's the latest paper. Here's some shots. This is the temporary housing set up on the northern end of Capilano Valley, just off 45th Ave. It looks like slums, but there's some well off folks in here. The city just wanted these houses up as quickly as possible and as cheaply as possible. Apparently, the sun was going supernova in this picture as well (I was trying out a Photoshop effect.. didn't work so well. ) Remember the highway that was blown out? Here's how it stands...

Cleanup Begins

Just showing a few pictures here, of the de-construction process in Capilano Valley. While not the true update I was talking about in my last post, I think I've kind of been teasing everyone a bit, with these skimpy one or two picture updates.. so here's a few more for you. Newspaper and comments should hopefully be coming tomorrow. Due to the damage the roads took, many will have to be completely rebuilt. The city is undecided as to whether it will follow the previous design perfectly, but it is indeed...

Anatomy of the Blaze

Iiit's update time! Welp... here's how the fire expanded. Starting from the last newspaper, on the 15th, you can see the fire that's expanded into the Capilano Valley area was rather small and contained in the valley. Unfortunately, due to a rather dry few days, the fire ballooned to encompass the H3, closing it from the H3/H7 interchange. From the 17th to the 20th, there was a windy day which basically fanned the flames up the valley towards the city. As the "shield" around the city wasn't yet complete,...

Aftermath

Update time! Here's a brief outlook of how the city looks now. I've had more car troubles again, so I won't be able to give you anything of what happened leading up to the fire. Maybe next update. Here's the area as it stands now. As you can see, quite a bit has been either destroyed or damaged. Yeesh.. The red helps you show the massive area the fire spread over. This is only a small fraction of the total size of it. Parts of the city now. The cars are from the hopeful residents of this area, hoping...

Inferno Valley

Update time! The fire spreads... Oh dear, that's getting close... Oh my... Oh dear.. The park! Hope everyone got out What's happened to the city itself? Check back tomorrow for what happened leading up to this, as well as the aftermath...

...before the Storm

Iiits update time! There's the paper for today! Fire is a part of the life cycle of forests, it's almost essential for them to stay alive and vibrant. Of course, Mother Nature never factored human cities into the equation.... Here's how Capilano Valley stands right now. Notice the expanding haze from the fire, as well as the beginnings of the dirt shield around the city. And, if you look close enough, you might see where the landslide is! (Refer to page 3 if you can't remember which highway is the H22. )...

The calm...

Big update on Sunday! Yesterdays and todays updates are just teasers for tomorrow! Stay tuned.. things are about to get interesting, and a newspaper with a special feature included! Here's the hospital that serves the Capilano Valley area. It's rather old, having been built waay back in 1952, but it serves its purpose admirably. Some city councillors have voiced concerns over it, because of its inadequacy to support the region, should any disaster occur. Things are currently being looked into it at the...

Big Box Power Center

Just a small update tonight, folks... lots more coming up this weekend! Here's the area slated for development, before construction begins. Cute little pond... lobby groups are still trying to preserve that, for the migrating geese that come each year. And construction begins! Note the pond is still there. More on that this weekend.. I *promise* I'll have a newspaper for you guys this weekend sometime... just been busy with work and stuff, haven't had time to really sit down and write one up. Stay tuned...

Memorial Park Completed

The park is complete! Yes, here it is! Just a few quick shots showing the Monument as it is, completed and all that. The final plans cut back on the seawall quite a bit, adding a lot more grass space. The green supporters loved that. A zoomed in shot. As you can see, there's a decent amount of parking in there.. with room to add more should the need arise. Also, a small bit of commercial was added though not near the amount originally proposed. And, a side shot. You can see the statue depicting Chester...

H3-H22 Interchange

It's update time! I promise a newspaper soon! I'm holding up for someone else so... well... you'll see. And here's the H3-H22 Interchange... I like to call it the Chellingworth Interchange, myself. It's a heck of a lot simpler than the Capilano-H3 Interchange. Just another angle. And a zoomed out shot, showing off the Chellingworth Bridge as well. And here it is on the latest region map! That's it for now, folks!

Interchange Complete

It's update time! And this, my friends, is the completed design of the interchange. Slightly simplified, and it also has some traffic control, not allowing the traffic coming off the service road to get onto the H3 westbound directly. High mast lighting was also added for safety concerns. Just another view, looking west. A zoomed out shot, showing Capilano Ave in relation to the residential in the area. The first stage of the upgrading of the Avenue ends shortly after the picture. And just for fun, here's...

Around the Valley III

It's update time! I'm sorry about the delay for this update, real life got in the way of things a bit. Nevertheless, here it is! Enjoy! As promised, Patriots, here's a closer look at the Capilano Arena. While not terribly obvious, the areas which appear to be holes are actually glassed over. Open air arena's wouldn't handle so well in the climate the Valley has. A shot across the H3 from Capilano Park, some more residential. The keen eye of you folk might also spot something that ties into our next picture...

As you may have seen in yesterdays paper, this is the vision laid out by the Mayor and a committee set up to figure out what to do with the nasty stretch of road that is Capilano Avenue. Construction! Wooha! The city had to divert the H3 for a small section, in order to make room for the upcoming overpass. Construction is in the early phases, and the old tunnels are still there from the previous interchange. Just doing a wee bit more time travel, you can now see how Capilano Ave. has been diverted along...
