Update time! Now, I know I promised a nice gigantic update full of Capilano Valley, but I couldn't get enough done in time.. hoping by Monday I should be able to give you that one! I had a bit more done in Spruce Grove though, so I thought I'd show those off in the meantime. Downtown Spruce Grove. Developing fairly well against the highway, many of the buildings are from the late 70's. Lots of people love them for nostalgia, but there's a growing number who think the town needs a facelift. And just a quick...

But now, moving on to Spruce Grove v2.0, here's what we've got developed so far. The mall you see here just off Highway 16 is the Parkland Mall, named after the county the town resides in. There's been a fair bit of development in the way of new commercial around here lately, with the boom times in Alberta. The empty grass field at the bottom used to be populated by wonderful elms, but all had to ripped out after they died from disease. And on the north end of the mall, seniors residents are popping up all...

Red River: Cemetary

Update time! We start today in Red River. Like I said in the last update, we would have the memorial service.. unfortunately because of rain it was forced to be postponed until today, but here is where Spruce Grove v1.0 now lies.

Spruce Grove: Remade

Update time! And unfortunately, I come bearing some bad news. It seems Spruce Grove became corrupted and no longer loads. I've tried everything myself and the helpful folks in chat could think of but nothing seems to be able to get it working again. I'm keeping the region in hopes that I can one day find a solution.. but for now, I'm starting up Spruce Grove v2.0. Don't have much so far, but this is just a mini update. Yes, it's a rare in-progress shot. I've still got some work to do, fine tuning up some...

And like I promised, here's a look at the road improvements that have been made in the area. You can see the city has planned ahead in some of these neighborhoods by leaving green space for future expansion of the road networks. A little cheaper than having to buy the houses along the road before mowing them down. A few avenues have been put in to help relieve increasing traffic demands on the roads. Easily one of the busiest stretches of road in the town. Expansion has been delayed by the 7-Eleven and...

Update time! As promised, I've got a Capilano/Spruce Grove update for you guys today.. they're a little shorter than I was hoping for but it should do for now, I hope. Well, lets have at it! Starting to move into Capilano Valley itself now, this is one of the residential areas just off the highway. The trees that were left between the houses and the highway creates enough of a barrier to help reduce the sound noise. A relatively new school to the town, Michener Elementary School is the third elementary in...

And, once again in Spruce Grove, just showing some road upgrades that have taken place... I went through and tossed in a bunch of smooth curves on the roads that could take them, and there's a few avenues running through town now! I'll show where all the go in the next update. And that's all I've got for you guys! Stay tuned for next time, when we'll check out a more detailed view of upgrades in Spruce Grove, and head back to Capilano Valley to see whats going on with the "renovations" there.

Red River: Elnora

Update time!! Apologies for a lengthy delay in updates.. real life got the best of me. But what can you do.. anyways, I've got a few things to show you today.. hopefully it will please! Ah yes, the hamlet of Elnora, about 10km south of Red River, just off of Highway 37. It's a cute little town, complete with its own school (K-9), church and a few shops. Most of the residents commute up to Red River to work. Only a hundred or so living here at the moment, but there were tentative plans to open up another...

Update time! Lets look at pictures! Just south of the last shots I showed you of Capilano Valley, the highway continues on! You can see the start of the actual town with the residential there. There are plans for a new subdivision running up the mountain, but stability tests need to be done first so as not to cause a landslide or something. Just a closer shot of the houses. These guys are about 5 years old.. development has been a bit slow on the side of valley for a while. And a lonely mountain road...

And here's Spruce Grove, up in the Forest Greens area. While technically not new to the city, this wasn't there when I took the first pictures of the area before, so I figured I ought to show whats gone up in there. The housing market has slowed quite drastically in Alberta, as you can tell by all the empty lots around. Oversaturation, I tell ya! And, that's all folks! I may have a mini update sometime tomorrow, but that's a bit of a dream. Until next time, then... adios!

Update time once again! As promised, I've got a two city update with two new areas! And both with mosaics! Whoo! Long time since we've seen Red River, eh? Well here's a new commercial district that has popped up against the highway, and some residential creeping in on the edge of town. Haljackey, avert your eyes from the RHW so as not to see the unsmooth turn.

Capilano Valley: Reborn

Update time! Apologies for the delay, I was thinking a little ambitious with what I was wanting to accomplish.. what was planned to be a quick 30 minute job turned into a 4 or 5 hour nightmare, spread over 4 days. But, here we are now and I finally have something to show you. I've decided to do a bit of a reboot of Capilano Valley, rather than go through another rebuild cycle. Many areas will be untouched but many of the original areas from like 2006 are in dire need of massive overhaul. So for the next...

Iit's update time! I'm going to put our grand update for this weekend in two pieces, the second half coming hopefully later tonight, most likely though on Sunday. For now, here's a few shots of the floodwaters. Some of you might recognize this as Blackmud Hills. Thankfully, the residents concerns never materialized here as their homes were spared from any damage. Capilano Park, however, wasn't quite so lucky. The city predicts that park may have to be completely rebuilt. New designs are being tossed about...

Welp, it's update time again! Apologies for the delay, I've been rather addicted to Spore for the past week. Updates should return to the their usual schedule for the next while at least. Now for the update. Just a quick shot, I'll have a paper for you guys tomorrow. The reach of the flood waters, assessed by the city after the storm had passed. Please do click the image for a full view. You can't really see from the 800x600 shot. Well unfortunately, that's all I've got today, folks. I should have a paper...

I showed this picture a few updates ago, when we discovered the Red River. I'm showing it again just to give a comparison. As the river was already swollen before the storm reported in the paper, Red River was an area that was in real danger of flooding. Here's how it stood before the storm ran through. Oh, you might notice an interesting landscape feature of the area that has confused scientists for years... the perfect grid lines marking the landscape in this area. Some say it's aliens. And a nice...

Update time! Lets take a quick look at what the rain did. Just a quick look at the Capilano River. Although swollen, it doesn't appear nearly as bad as early predictions thought. However, with more rain expected tonight things could easily change.

And, here's Whitefish Bay's newest! The acreage feel is a stark contrast from the bustling, compact style of Capilano Valley, eh? Rainy Creek Rd. (Range Rd. 443) winds through and provides the entrance to the area. In a few updates, I'll show you the roads namesake. And that's all for now, guys! Stay tuned for our next update, hopefully coming this weekend!

Update time! Just two new developments in two of our towns. Lets take a look! Oooh! Finally a new development in Capilano Valley! They're starting to build on the other side of the river, where things join up. I'll have a new region shot for you in the next update, you'll be able to see better then. It's in land just annexed by the city. Demand for residential has shot up in Capilano, as the city is becoming quite the destination for those who prefer a larger town feel but don't want to be amazingly far...

Update time again! I think we may have found the mysterious Red River! There's the Trans-Canada, winding through the farmland. The edge of the farmland, before the land dips down into a pretty deep valley. Just a farmhouse, surrounded by farmland. Eek! Water! The bridge that spans Red River. The bridge is starting to show some age and the province is starting to plan a retrofit for it. And here's an overview of the area. Red River itself is about 5-10 km outside of the town limits, but it is in the county...

Well, I guess it's update time again! So soon, I know.. I ended up having a bit of extra time today, just enough to squeeze out a few more pictures of around Spruce Grove. With the help of this map, hopefully you will be able to place yourself a bit better. Well, here's the Forest Greens area. The commercial here is starting to get a little aged, and some of the shops have undergone slight renovations to improve their street appeal. Some residents have expressed discontent over the large cement "fields"...

Iit's update time! Now, my apologies for being late, I was busy hard at work trying to prepare Spruce Grove ready for a full show-off, but I didn't quite make it. So I'll have to apologize again if this update is a little underwhelming. I promise this weekend (maybe a little sooner?) I'll have some substantial stuff to show you guys in Spruce Grove. For now, let your imagination roam.. Please click the image to get the full view. Detail is lost on this scrunched image. This is shows the three bus routes in...

Welcome back, ladies and gents! Time for a full fledged Spruce Grove update.. lets see what the town has in store for us. Very similar shot to what I showed in the last update, just zoomed out a bit to give a feel for the town. You can see the new town library in the still-under-completion Matzinoka Park. Just down the Yellowhead, we see the Courtyard Marriott, in a bit of a seedier part of town. Most of these buildings were constructed back in the 70's. And I guess I could have turned this shot and the...

And here you can see Highway 16A as it passes through town. The access roads were put for ease of use, for both folks getting to the commercial areas and the highway users. And well.. that's all I guess. We'll have more on Spruce Grove next time, so stay tuned!
