Nice street side mod but I would have chosen HD car props which looks more realistic.

The rounded corners in the intersection area look extremely good.

I first tried it with the SHK Parking Pack cars, but I think they are too big for the game.  Are you aware of any other packs?

@WolfZe I believe those come with the US textures in the NAM.

I was laughing laudly on that question, what you've just addressed to @Girafe! :) Well, he just owns the currently availabe largest set of HD car props in the whole community (well as for how long, it depends on, when @Barroco Hispano starts releasing his tremendous amount of vehicle props in the future).

BSC - VIP girafe carpack vol. 1 & 2
BSC - VIP girafe carpack vol. 3
BSC - VIP girafe urbanpack vol. 1 - the Carpack vol. 4 is part of this urban pack, but the car props can be found in a separate *.dat file.

Plus here are these:

VIP Carpack vol1

VIP Carpack vol2

Bear in mind, the cars from Girafe in these latest two packs are mostly the same as in the first linked pack, but it also contains car props from Vnaoned.

I don't think the SHK Parking set is HD. I think I was talking about them with a fellow player some times ago, that it's sad that he never created HD version of those cars, but I don't remember who I was talking with about them. Some/most of @pclark06's cars are HD rendered as far as I know. I haven't tried them out as of yet, because the last time I started creating huge amount of car props, that took me for months to set them up and organize them into families. As I mentioned above Girafe has a huge amount of HD car props, around 4 volumes (I'm using currently his cars on my lots almost exclusively - at that time when I was creating the Heretic Essentials, @AndisArt just released a small HD car prop set, which I included to my essential set - after created around 1000 timed props and around 100 timed prop families based on them. They are working nicely with @kingofsimcity's SuperSHK parking texture and lot set). I've been following your work on this street mod a bit, and it looks pretty good! Really nice job!

Keep up the good work!

Hey, Flann. I've been hunting down car props lately for my own project, and I've run into similar issues regarding scale. I spent a bit of time this past week comparing the size of different HD car props and grouping packs by size. The following is only a rough guide, but I would group them as follows..

Large -- These are noticeably bigger than Maxis vehicles. They will probably look out of place if they're used for T21s. They're roughly the size of the SHK vehicles.

Medium -- These are slightly larger than the Maxis vehicles, but the difference isn't too noticeable. There's some variation in vehicle size within these packs, so some of these cars are very close to Maxis vehicle dimensions. I would strongly suggest trying the props from Girafe's Carpack Vol 01 & Vol 02. They're very high quality, and in terms of size, they're a very close match for Maxis cars (they might belong in the "Small" section below).

Small -- These are a close match for Maxis vehicles. I would strongly recommend the Andisart pack in particular, which contains some excellent modeling. PC's packs also contain some really solid cars, although they're mixed in with several other props.

Note that I haven't included some other prop packs that contain HD vehicles (like WMP Mega Props Vol 01). So there's other stuff out there.

Edit: I see @Tyberius06 has already made most of these recommendations. I had missed the cars from Vnaoned when I was collecting props for testing, but his stuff is really good, so I imagine those VIP packs are worth grabbing. *:)

Edit 2: Here's a quick visual reference that might be helpful. It was taken in PIM-X, so unfortunately this is all at Zoom 5.

  • The first group contains cars from Maxis, PC, and Andisart.
  • The second group is Girafe (from Vol 01 & 02), moto.kloss, and CT14.
  • The third group contains another car from Girafe (this time from Vol 03) and one of SHK's cars for comparison.

Thank you, Tyberius.  Obviously my search powers have failed me.  These are all excellent suggestions and I will probably rethink my car selection for this T21 mod.  Out of curiosity, does your Essentials include car families that would be useful for street parking T21s?

Barton, this is much appreciated, especially the size comparison.  It looks like I could probably use a mix of anything from groups 1 and 2.  What I found with the SHK cars (and probably would with Girafe's Vol 3 and 4) is that they are too wide to fit into the parking along the street without having the automata clip through them.  In addition, I still use a lot of Maxis stuff, and the size difference is too much when they appear close to each other.

Looks like I have more work to do!

Yeah, mine are HD, but obviously, looking at them now I probably could have done a little better in having the colors blend more into the game. At the time I was mostly wanting to see cars in the game that had not been made, as a car person myself.

I think this is true for a few of your props from the first set, but having gone through both sets this week, most of your cars measure up quite well. Speaking just for myself, your packs have been a huge help. I badly needed car props from the 80s and 90s, and until I went through your packs I thought I'd need to rely on older, SD props.

Glad I could help! That's more or less the same plan that I'm using for my own project, but it was a hard decision. I'm a big fan of the SHK props, even if they're only SD, and Girafe's Vol 03 & Vol 04 cars are excellent. When they're used next to other props and buildings, the scale appears just fine to my eye. But for parking lots and other areas where several vehicles are clustered together, I need to make sure the scale is consistent.

For what it's worth, I believe most of the cars from Girafe's Vol 03 and 04 packs are slightly narrower than the SHK props. So you might not have the clipping issues if you use them. But they still might appear a bit oversized if they're directly next to street traffic.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

As you can see I use the TS-Parking-LOT's. But actually these huge American trucks "bother" me. Is there actually something comparable with smaller, European trucks?

I did make a conscious decision to not make them sized like the SHK cars, luckily, mostly because I knew a lot of people still use the original sizing of carparks as well as the road sizes being a fixed tile in the game. Glad you're enjoying them!

Would Japanese style trucks be a suitable substitute? I haven't used either of these sets myself, but you might try:

Some other ideas...

  • Gascooker has some transport truck props with European-style cabs
  • Fantozzi's Colossus Farming set includes some custom transport truck props with European-style cabs (look at the screenshots for stage six and above)
  • R6 has some smaller trucks with European-style cabs

Edit: Forgot an obvious (and really good) one...

Edit 2: I might have misread the question -- If you're looking for existing lots (instead of looking for props to make your own lots), these suggestions might not be helpful.

Jim Truck Prop Pack 1.0 (note: this one has gone missing, so you might need to ask if anyone has a copy in the "Can't Find It?" thread)

You don't have to ask, just login to SC4D from that link and scroll down to where it says Jim Car Prop Pack [One Drive]

Its been updated to version 1.2

Apologies, just noticed its the car pack, not truck.

Did however find a possible link to the creator at the end of a readme file, however I don't use social media so I'll leave that part of the search up to someone else.

I tried to contact him on Twitter last year (like this time of the year), but didn't get any respond, but maybe somebody esle can try as well. Although I managed to get a copy of this prop pack from a fellow player and it is planned to be released on the STEX under @III Jim III account, when I have the chance to sort out a few other legacy uploads. Seriously I've been collecting and polishing a few of them for months now (plus the lost Polska, WMP, SIMPEG and Paeng creations). I'm gonna make a larger post about these legacy uploads with the @STEX Custodian account, so people can see what's coming. Long story short, I still have like 30+ WMP creation, 40+ PEGPROD (these are mostly organized, but the readmes need to be updated), 40-60 Paeng creations, 450-ish polska files (ok, around 130 already can be found on STEX, but they need to be revisited) and there are a couple of individual fixes, updates, or legacy uploads (like these Jim Trucks) and some of @oppie's creations, which now fall under the same legacy status since his site permamently went down. And these are mostly just the STEX related stuffs (WMP and some of the Polska files actually will go to LEX as well).

Actually these days I'm done with collecting the stuffs, and started finalize them for possible uploads.

Oh, that's a good news actually, @Raymond7cn. Last year I discovered his creations on his onedrive, but the truck and some trainshed props were missing. But I found his twitter account as a contact option and sent a direct message to his twitter account in english on 31 october 2019, but I'm not sure if he ever read that message. I wanted to ask him, if he still had those creations (truck props and the trainsheds) and if it would be possible to share them and we could upload them to the exchanges in the behalf of his.  Sadly I never get a reply and I wasn't sure if he read that message at all. A few months ago, then suddenly I learnt that one of the still active players had the truck props (he doesn't have the train sheds, though) and he sent me the pack. Well since then I didn't really have time to upload it with all the other SC4 stuffs, what I've been doing for a while now, but those props were planned to be uploaded under Jim's account in the coming months.

Although if you can contact him, and ask him about these props, that would be even better and more clear and much appreciated.

Thanks!
