ITT we pester Aspyr about the Mac BAT night lighting bug until they fix it
jonnyquest posted a topic in SC4 Mac Users
I don't know how many others still play this game on Mac but it seems completely ridiculous to me that the night lighting bug for custom content hasn't been fixed yet (or I assume it hasn't--I haven't tried the latest betas they've released for Apple Silicon compatibility). But given that Aspyr *is* still updating the game for Apple Silicon Macs this seems like the moment for them to finally fix the night lighting bug so we can enjoy the game on the same level that Windows users do (and maybe the transit bug as well that forces us to use iLive Reader to update BATs). I've created a support thread on Aspyr's website here: https://support.aspyr.com/hc/en-us/requests/207291. Would others like to chime in on that thread and express how much we'd like to see this change? We could also try leaving reviews in the Mac App Store about this for people who have downloaded that version of the game, or maybe they have a support email address as well? If we flood them with enough requests maybe they'll finally fix this bug, I don't know how difficult it would be to resolve but it's truly ridiculous that it's gone unaddressed for so long- 10 Replies

Seems to me like it perhaps could be a reskin of a bus network, like the CANAM addon, which features its own unique autonama and network skin. Just make it plopable on steep terrain. Just thinking out loud, I don't know what kind of other interest there'd be in something like this but working out the technical feasibility is interesting to me. I'm not sure if there are a lot of great transportation network options for very mountainous cities and this is certainly one that would be cool and visually unique. Most cities only use cable cars sparingly in their transportation networks but La Paz has a whole network of them:

I'd love to see an aerial cable car network implemented, like in La Paz. Would be great for mountainous cities. Is there any way this could be done?

No worries, my El Rail looks fine, it's just that my monorail is now reskinned to look like El Rail for some reason 🤔 Still continuing to play around with the arrangement of files to see if I can fix it

D'oh, I meant to respond to his earlier. It may not be possible to link to a support request, perhaps it's private, but you should be able to send one too. Yes, we should get as many people as possible to spam them about this lol- 10 Replies

Thanks for this! Turned out I'd somehow missed something somewhere in the midst of moving all these .dat files around. I did see RSC's walkthough and found it very helpful. Another question since I believe you're part of the NAM team? (if this would be better to handle over DMs than in this thread let me know)--I'm trying to use Moonlight's Shinkansen reskin for the monorail but instead of the nice models he has for the pillars and track I'm getting the model for the El Train. I know Moonlight's reskin was originally designed for an earlier version of NAM, is this the issue, and is there anything I can do to correct it? I don't understand how I'm getting the model for the El Train here at all EDIT: I'm getting the correct Moonlight mod models on the avenue overpass here but not elsewhere, if that offers any insight

I'm trying to use Paeng's PedMall Parks but unfortunately I'm not getting the sandstone texture after I plop them (although I see it faintly in the thumbnail before plopping). Any thoughts on what may be causing this? If there's something I'm missing from the readme I'll happily accept some deserved chiding for it

ITT we pester Aspyr about the Mac BAT night lighting bug until they fix it
jonnyquest replied to jonnyquest's topic in SC4 Mac Users
Interesting, thanks for the insight. I just received a message that my request has been added to Aspyr's "database," whatever that means. Sounds like it's something they may at least look into before the next update. The fact they're continuing to update the game for Apple Silicon users gives me hope, apparently people there are actively still digging around in the code of the game to tweak things. I don't know how hard this issue would be to fix (along with the issue that causes some transit lots to CTD, that seems to be the other major bug for me). But hopefully they understand there's an appetite from users in the community to see this resolved. I haven't even tried the latest beta for Apple Silicon but I'm assuming these bugs are still present. Kind of worried about trying the beta and not being able to revert, dunno if anyone here has been able to try it.- 10 Replies

I say add it into the old pack! I like having as much content as possible in one mod as long as it's all high quality. [Edit: nvm, I missed you were talking about a city journal, I thought you were asking for input on a mod pack] This water texture is beautiful, which one is it?

This looks fantastic, can I ask what grass texture you're using for the terrain here? It looks far more realistic than anything else I've seen

Love your street designs but I'm having some issues unfortunately. In high and medium density/wealth areas, there's a mismatch in coloration which you can see at intersections and parking bays: Meanwhile in my low density residential neighborhood cars are parking on grass! This doesn't seem right. Maybe someone knows what I might've misconfigured here? I'm using SFBT Streetside trees, JRJ side parking bays, your WWStreets and MGB - Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) for Gobias Sudden Valley, if that makes a difference

Light poles appearing when using tree brush in god mode?
jonnyquest posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I'm experiencing a strange problem when using the tree brush feature in god mode. What appear to be rather futuristic looking light poles with circular tops appear in place of some of the tress (see attachment). At least I *think* they're light poles. They don't actually illuminate at night as I'm using the Mac version of the game. I gather a problematic light plugin is causing this issue but I can't figure out which one! Can anyone identify these light poles so I can remove the plugin from my folder?- 7 Replies

Light poles appearing when using tree brush in god mode?
jonnyquest replied to jonnyquest's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Yeah I found out I had some missing dependencies for the Arden Tree Controller, which has approximately 3 billion dependencies. But I'm still not sure why the brown boxes would be replaced by the light poles. I can't guarantee that I don't have some issue with the LRM or something too. Wonder if this is something anyone else has experienced? It would at least be better to get a pole than a box on some lot I guess- 7 Replies

How to create neighbor connection with Hybrid Rail?
jonnyquest posted a topic in NAM & Transit Networks
Couldn't find documentation for this on the NAM website. I need a neighbor connection that allows both traditional rail/freight and high-speed rail/monorail to pass through- 3 Replies

How to create neighbor connection with Hybrid Rail?
jonnyquest replied to jonnyquest's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
Thank you! I'll stay tuned for updates on this, meanwhile I'll just split my rail track at the border for both heavy rail and monorail traffic. One more question: can the current 2 stations provided for HRW work with elevated hybrid rail? My strategy thus far is to keep hybrid rail on the ground in industrial areas for freight to be loaded onto the tracks directly (assuming this works with HRW as it does with RRW), and to use elevated hybrid rail everywhere else. It'd be a pain if I had to transition back to L0 every time I wanted to place a station. Alternate option: can I use monorail stations along HRW? Assuming they would allow monorail traffic to enter and leave the network, would they still allow heavy rail to pass though? Final final question: what's my best option for crossing a body of water with hybrid rail? I guess I need to either tunnel or use one of the heavy rail or monorail/GHSR bridges?- 3 Replies

Removing zigzag sidewalk effect on diagonal avenue?
jonnyquest posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I'm about to pull my hair out over this! So I've got a diagonal avenue in one of my cities. At some point some development took place on one end of the avenue and the sidewalk texture appeared in this ugly zigzag pattern: I tried using sidewalk filler pieces to even out the pattern (this lot specifically)... but after plopping down several of them, the sidewalk texture of the avenue changed back to grass! Has anyone successfully fixed this issue? I'd really prefer for the avenue to just have a simple grass texture, but I'd also settle for sidewalk filler pieces that don't somehow revert the avenue back to grass. I swear I'm about to give up on this game, every so often I get sucked back into it and end up eventually giving up because of obnoxious quirks like this.. -
Removing zigzag sidewalk effect on diagonal avenue?

Probably could be if I felt like digging into iLive Reader. Kind of a ridiculous oversight that they aren't already coded this way, at least the ones I was using -
Removing zigzag sidewalk effect on diagonal avenue?
jonnyquest replied to jonnyquest's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
This worked, although for anyone else who finds this thread, I found a better solution. I placed some of the tiles next to the avenue which caused the grass texture to reappear, then with the highway disconnector tool that's part of NAM I was able to delete those tiles. Aesthetically they disappeared, although the element of them that dictated wealth level and created the grass texture remained. So I was able to get back the grass texture along the length of the avenue, which really looks better than having unnecessary sidewalks the width of the road in an uninhabited area. -
Requests for Mac-ified BATs (for nightlighting)
jonnyquest replied to markenache's topic in SC4 Mac Users
Thanks for the updates everyone! Very cool stuff. Exciting to address this issue, in some ways it seems the Mac version of SC4 is the definitive version of the game given the ability to run it with 64-bit performance. Addressing this will pretty much bring us fully up to par with those playing it on Windows -

Rad! Very exciting. Looking forward to being able to enjoy my cities at night eventually. Matt325 has a lot of BATs that have an incredible amount of detail at night but alas they don't work for me currently -

Excellent, yes I've managed to get iLive Reader running through Wine. It sounds like something's in the works that would allow us to automate the process of dealing with these conversions? -
Requests for Mac-ified BATs (for nightlighting)
jonnyquest replied to markenache's topic in SC4 Mac Users
I've recently download a large set of mods and BATs with all the files datpacked, which complicates this project for me even if I were able to find the time :-/ I'm feeling less optimistic in general about out abilities to make a serious dent in this problem given the resources that would be required. Maybe our time would be better spent if we all reached out to Aspyr and asked them to update the application to address this problem? They just brought us the 64-bit version so maybe it wouldn't be entirely out of the realm of possibility..
