SC4 Deluxe : British Modpack, blocking American buildings only!
nekomaster posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Because I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, I mostly set up SimCity 4 with American and Canadian styled buildings, mostly stuff that fits into the majority of Canada, The North East, North West, Mid West and Central parts of USA. Though lately I've been thinking about building cities in a different style like United Kingdom or Asia. I did get the no maxis files mod to block all levels of Residential and Commercial, though I wonder is there a way to just block American buildings in general and leave the European set alone? Other then that I know where to get british themed lots and what not so that wont be an issue for me, I just want to block the American stuff for my British SimCity 4 setup. EDIT : I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DISABLE THE AMERICAN TILE SETS, but not all of the mods/lots I download may fall into the European category and thus may not spawn if I just disable the American tile sets alone. I'm downloading stuff right now that mostly looks british in my opinion but may not actually be strictly European/British and may not be enabled in the European tile set. I just want to disable the American buildings and leave the European stuff in, that way I can enable all the Tile Sets and let the European set grow and let mod lots/buildings grow incase they don't end up under the European tile set. -

BTW Can't I use PIMX to CAMify things? I don't mind having regular stuff in my game because from my experience, sometimes big stuff pops up in small cities like my own town, we already have a couple of pretty big buildings and apartments despite only having 150,000 people Also I wish I knew how to BAT, I've tried multiple times to do anything 3D but I can never make heads or tails of anything, meaning I still havent been able to make any custom buildings for SimCity 4, Cities Skylines, or Cities XL... it'd be nice if things where as easy as SimCity 3000 and its BAT tool. -

Update, got PIMX and already figured out how to use some of its features, like setting the style/tileset. -
SC4 Deluxe : British Modpack, blocking American buildings only!

Well after reading peoples comments I can see it will be a bit of a tedious process but can be done one way or another. I may just go with the route that Bombardiere suggested and make sure all my mods are set to appear on the euro tile set, this way I can play the game with the European stuff activated and flesh things out a little more and provide some competition to repetitive lots. I thought I had things going well a couple days ago but I had a feeling things werent going right when some ot Mattb325's small low wealth houses kept popping up and no other types of housing where appearing except for high wealth and Medium and high density stuff. Once I removed the small low wealth and medium wealth houses I got from the LEX, nothing except for Ill Tonkso's Portchester Gardens appeared for residential. I'm currently redoing my British mod pack bit by bit, so Bombardiere's solution may work better for me as I go along here. It will be a long and hard road and I may get bored of playing SimCity 4 after doing so much set up and play testing, but at least in the end I'll have a British modpack to play with for the future, and I just got a 2TB hard disk from my uncle that I will be storing all the less important stuff that I don't want clogging up my Main 2TB Seagate Constellation. I hope to have a bunch of SimCity 4 regional/country mod packs to play with in the future, which once I can confirm that things are working properly, I will be dat packing my modpacks to make things easier for future me (especially if I get drunk) -
Really like these and I wish there was more parking lots or parking garages like these. Is there an easy way to add a monthly income to other lots like the Maxis parking garage? Where I'm from most public parking spaces and garages charge a fee, usually 2 dollars (Canadian) an hour or perhaps 10 dollars for the whole day (handy for people that want to park and ride or work in an office area)

SC4 Deluxe : British Modpack, blocking American buildings only!
nekomaster replied to nekomaster's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Well if anything, I know that Residential and COmmercial buildings in SimCity 4 use names that sorta identify what tile set they belong to, like Houston, NYC, and Chicago. Is there an easy way to go through the American buildings and disable their growth so that I can keep the American tile sets active without the Maxis American buildings appearing? Only tools I'm sorta familiar with are the Lot Editor and iLives Reader, if theres a better program for individually going through each american building and disabling them, I'd like to know. So far I have found a decent amount of "British" styled stuff that I feel looks british enough, though some things can work in most set ups (I'm finding a lot of Post 1970's towers and skyscrapers tend to look the same throughout the world, except for really compact stuff like pencil towers that you may find in Asia) Also I'm having a little problem where even though I have a bunch of residential house and row house lots some lots repeat through out the city taking up 80-90% of the housing styles. This is part of the reason why I'd like to keep the European tile set buildings around so as to add a little extra styling and competition to repetitive lots (considering maxis buildings tend to pop up a lot as well) -

SimCity 4 Launcher - Updated (10/09/15) 1.5.4b - R12
nekomaster replied to Logic_Bomb's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hey guys, I have a little problem with the SimCity 4 Launcher that gets pretty annoying for me. I have version 1.5.4b - R12 (Sept 10) version of the SimCity 4 Launcher and when I open the launcher I can't close it once I start up the game, the program remains in my taskbar and shows the aero peek thumbnail but the actual window wont open. Also I can't seem to end/kill the process manually in Task Manager or from Commandline using Taskkill /pid #### /f as windows just tells me "Access Denied" This issue happens on Windows 7 x64 and Windows 10 x64 (Though I currently use the latter). This is on a computer I own and have full administrator rights over. The only way I could go even more admin is by enabling access to the hidden administrator account in Windows. Its not a major issue but if I open and close SimCity 4 a few times, then I'll end up with multiple un-killable tasks that take up 12-13 MB each. -
One thing I like to do in my cities is add space around buildings for ally ways, which I usually use Ped Mall Tiles or Open Paved Area While I have made a simple lot in the Lot Editor with a simple pavement texture, I'd like to make it transit enabled to allow pedestrians and maybe cars to drive through. I do have iLives Reader installed as well, though I wouldn't know where to start to make a transit enabled lot. Oh, and like the pedestrian mall tiles from NAM, I'd prefer if the Alley Way I'm making could just be plopped without needing a road connection (unless I need that to allow cars to drive through as well) Any help would be appreciated, and if anyone has a sample I can build off of that would also help me

Nice, reminds me of the schools I've been to in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, all the schools except for one had a Baseball Diamond or two and a large field (usually with a dual purpose Soccer/Football goal on each end, even though schools around here aren't allowed to do football because of the risk of injury... )

Theres a bit of a problem with some of the files you have, some of the dependencies have dependencies that have dead links, like some of the really old stuff and even some of the newer stuff like the W2W stuff (which require the sc4 file from another mod, which requires dependencies, which some have dead links).
-
Could you provide a bit more precise information, such as a link to the file(s) with dead dependency links? Especially older stuff is often problematic because hyperlinks don't survive the migration to newer Simtropolis software, and going back, rewriting those descriptions and fixing all the links again is quite a hassle. However, if you can give me an idea which ones are needed most, I can try to look into the matter.
For what it's worth, the included HTML readme file is not affected by Simtropolis software upgrades, so it should always contain working links.

Back in October I made a thread about the painfully slow speeds here, and since then things have gotten worse. Not only are downloads VERY slow, with most downloads going at a few KB's per second, but now the whole website is getting very slow, and its been like this for a few months now. Sometimes, be it a 50 KB or 1MB file, my downloads drop into the Bytes per second range, thus some times tiny files take 5 minutes to download. I have a good fast connection with unlimited downloading, all other websites load fast and downloads go fast, but here its getting very slow, sometimes a page wont even load or the website gives me an error page. This slow speed not only effects the SimCity 4 stuff, but the Cities Skylines stuff as well.... This worsening problem is making me want to avoid using this website. What I usually intend to be a 5-10 minute mod searching and downloading spree ends up turning into a 2 day long wait for files as I wait for the mods page to load, then it takes a minute sometimes for the agree and download page to load, and then another minute to load up the download page, and then ANOTHER MINUTE for the download to actually start, which then takes 5 minutes for a 600 KB file... This problem is exacerbated when mods require dependencies Whats going on with Simtropolis? Is the website falling apart? PS : While I wrote this message, it just took me 24 minutes and 53 seconds to download a 637 KB file, an all time record for slowest download. Heres a link to the file I downloaded that took forever EDIT : I don't mean to come off as demanding, mean or rude, but its hard not to get aggravated when a website like Simtropolis, a hub for mods and dependencies, continues to chug along and get slower and slower with time.

Simtropolis downloads and website VERY SLOW
nekomaster replied to nekomaster's topic in Simtropolis Related
Well I don't have to write any kind of code anymore - I'm retired. :-) I was a database wonk anyway so didn't have to. Of course, for those kids still working I would highly recommend learning assembly - good coders can make a ton. nekomaster - I don't know what to tell you. I still stick by my db theory. There are a hundred reasons why one person can get good download speed and the next not so great. Unfortunately I don't know that much about the db used but the fact the search went south points to it. I've experienced slow downloads myself and I have 50+mbps download speed. To me it's worth the wait. Well I guess for now I'll just play Cities Skylines, I got my taxes back today so I can finally run it through my fathers bank account and buy C:S on steam and get all my mods there I do hope the website will get fixed up soon though, I tend to jump back and forth between games in the same genre- 24 Replies

Simtropolis downloads and website VERY SLOW
nekomaster replied to nekomaster's topic in Simtropolis Related
Well I tried using other browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera, and still no change... I will admit though, firefox loaded the website and pages a little faster but there was still the issue of downloads taking for ever to start and then even still the downloads where slow. I have tried other devices in my home, I tried my sisters computer, I tried my netbook, I even tried my Smartphone but still the same issue. BTW These are all things maintained by me. My Desktop has a direct connection, infact all our gaming desktops here, as well as my playstation 3 are connected by (CAT6) wire to my gigabit network, only our smart phones and my netbook run on Wireless. I don't believe in using wireless on desktops for gaming, too much lag and high ping sometimes gets you kicked in online games. My current set up looks like this : [Jack] > [Modem] > [Gigabit Switch] > [Computer] Also I've noticed the search is still busted, it may not be the best search engine but it gets me places and lets me see a thumbnail of the mod at least, and then theres the ability to search up files made by an uploader, this way you can find other good mods made by them.... but alas the search and what not is still broken EDIT : Even in Opera or Firefox, new or old files still take forever to download, averaging 2-3 KBps.... where as other websites download pretty fast, some as slow as 200 KBps, but most websites allow me to download at full speed, 1.8MBps, same thing goes for Steam and Origin. I still don't get how I can get 1.8MBps on some websites and I can barely get above 5 KBps here.- 24 Replies

Simtropolis downloads and website VERY SLOW
nekomaster replied to nekomaster's topic in Simtropolis Related
When I pinged the site i got a avage of 140-150s ping. IMO thats not too bad for my stanards, so long as the site loads in a few seconds, but simtropolis loads slowly for me, I actually timed out a few times before getting to this page which I have saved to my book marks bar in Chrome. And I thought maybe this mihgt be a chome problem but I tried Fire fox, Internet Explorer, and Opera. None of those browsers changed anything. Now I'll admit I did download some stuff recently, wont say what I downloaded, but with my 15mbps connection I got the average of 1.8MB/s that I normally get for downloads, steam downloads, and other things. YET This website continues to be slow for me. I've contacted BELL about problems like this before and they usually dont do anything about this problem, saying that the problem is with the website. As I said earlier, SimTropolis wasn't always slow for me, at least up until two years ago where its gotten slower and slower and slower until its gotten worse then dial up speed. I can understand a sudden drop in speed as throttling, but a steady decrease in performance is different then a throttle. I dont want to keep arguing about my connection, as it works very well else where but here. Right now I'm going to try to talk with BELL Canada to see if theres anything they're doing that its impacting my speed. PS : Yeah I'm agitated, No I'm not trying to be an donkey's rear end, Im just one of those people that get upset when things dont go right....- 24 Replies

I'm with BELL Canada, I don't see why they would be Throttling this website, as I don't have any problems with any other website. There was a time when companies where Throttling downloads and Torrents but thats been abolished now. And this slow speed wasn't always an issue, its only been a issue for the last year or two, but I've had BELL FIBE for over 4 years now- 24 Replies

[Solved] Has anyone else had trouble with the STEX Search?
nekomaster replied to guacamolem's topic in Simtropolis Related
I too am having trouble with the STEX search, and while google may give better results, without a picture or good description it makes it hearder to find what your looking for when your searching for something like police stations, office towers, NDEX, etc -
Simtropolis downloads and website VERY SLOW
nekomaster replied to nekomaster's topic in Simtropolis Related
The entire website is slow no matter what time I access it here in Ontario Canada (-5 GMT), be it 6am, 11am, 3pm, 10pm, any time I try to access/load the website or download files everything goes very slowly... well the website seems to go a teeny tiny bit faster in the morning before 12 noon, but its not much of a difference, things still take minutes to download be it a 100KB file or a 1MB file. I live in Oshawa, Ontario, I'm not far from Toronto, I have a 15mbps fibre connection and Simtropolis use to be fairly fast for me, downloads going about 200-300 KBps, but now things go so slow that files download in the Bytes/second range. Also I tried pinging the website form various website tester thingies, and got an average of 150 ms for the front page. EDIT : Today the entire website seems VERY slow, taking 30-60 seconds to load some websites.... and yet youtube loads pretty quickly, same with facebook, 9gag, tumblr, etc (taking about 1-3 seconds to load)- 24 Replies

Nice building, but could you make it growable rather then just ploppable as a landmark, I much rather prefer to work for it then plop it for a couple bucks. Your Appdata folder is normally hidden by default in Windows You can access it by typing this into your location bar : C:\Users\YOURACCOUNTNAME\Appdata Just remember where it says YOURACCOUNTNAME thats where you change it for your windows user name, as appdata is different for everyone
