  1. SimCity 4 Lore

I have redacted the paragraph in the detailing post. I won't anymore put in discussion about this, however I consider that not mentioning it in the lore (specially being a game +20 years old, please put that in perspective) is a partial scope and leaves in dark those people who had its first contact and experience with the game in the aforementioned way. Final words. At least there is still BRT in the NAM, I guess...
  2. SimCity 4 Lore

Got the idea, but I don't think it is necessary to sanitize. Getting a licensed copy of the game has become easier with Steam and another platforms, fortunately, mostly of the software out there have been following this pattern. I'm talking about a time, more than 10 years from now, when getting a legitimate copy was either really expensive (even the used ones) or really hard to find. Piracy was a real thing for many of us, and getting around it to get full features in the software was a part of the experience.
  3. SimCity 4 Lore

Sure, I'll detail a little bit more: SimMars/Memories of the Colonists, I didn't see that SimMars was already listed, however Memories of the Colonists is a spinof of SimMars developed by @Terring for "terrestrial" environments. Jupiter, Aurora and Poseidon mods, they're mods to include sky effects, weather and water effects to the game, as far as I understand and correct me if I'm wrong this is the predecessor to the current weather mod or at least was released before. Linux compatibility, either via Wine or Proton, the game is totally playable, including mods, using these compatibility layers. BRT for the NAM, since the version 32, the NAM includes the possibility to build Bus Rapid Transit networks using an adaptation of the RHW which also included stations. [Redacted]
  4. SimCity 4 Lore

Add to the lore: SimMars/Memories of the Colonists, the sci-fi mod that attempted to bring a Martian environment to the game. Jupiter and Aurora Mod, which as far as I understand, they're the predecessors to the weather mod, correct me if wrong. Linux compatibility, either via Wine or Proton. SimCity China, that website where downloading was an absolute odyssey. BRT for the NAM. [redacted] What a time, it has passed a lot since then... and just realized that my square should say "MX" instead of "ST", never saw that detail before. Maybe it's time to claim why I got that Trixie.
  5. 20yearsSC4 SC4: 2023 (20th Anniversary)

¡Happy Birthday, SC4! Despite I have not so much time recently to play as much as I would like, this game changed my views on video games since the first time I played it around 12 years ago, expanded my horizon and made me gain interesting in urban topics. For the future, we must keep this game alive, I hope we could get the source code, so the community continues improving the game and pushing it towards the future.

  9. Windows 11 discussion thread

I see Win11 coming as Win Vista did with WinXP. The current requirements for the OS are literally dropping most of the current computers being used in the world, which in the current situation of the semiconductor crisis is something that we shouldn't be considering. Also, many of its "features" are things that actually are not surprising. Others are just, plain stupid, like sticking the taskbar to the bottom always just because it is neat for tablet use (please, what kind of excuse is that?). Better move to a Linux distro with KDE Plasma, it already does what Win11 does and with a better implementation.
  10. Show us your Downtown!

Some of my latest games, since I don't have enough time to do so. There are still some blank (green) spaces, but still dense. Urboĉerfubo, Centra Komerca Distrikto. Day: Night:

An unfinished interchange: Another one, I'm trying to find a way to optimize the space in this one: And a three way interchange:
  12. Recently Valve has released the beta of Steam Play, a Wine fork that allows Steam to run Windows games on Linux. This has sparked and exploded fast in the Linux gaming community, since there is a lack of titles in this platform and because gaming was a main obstacle for the migration of user from Windows to Linux. There is a big table database of the community testing many titles with Steam Play. I have tested this tool with Steam on KDE Neon 5.13 and I installed SimCity 4. It works fine, seems to work even better than using Wine rawly. It installs in the home folder ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/SimCity 4 Deluxe/, and there is no special difference in this. The main problem here is I don't find the user folder (the SimCity 4 folder that is in My Documents), I don't know where it is generated, where could be, or if the plugins and regions should be placed in the game files. With this problem it may gonna complicate to install NAM or other plugins that use installers. The shortcut parameters works normal, just I have to find out the way to specify the user folder. Finally, if other users are using Steam on Linux I invite them to join to the experiment and find out a solution for those small problems mentioned before.
  13. Midtown Jalisco

This building is actually really beautiful in person. The model is actually nice, very well done. I suggest you to take in consideration the whole complex, with the mall and the Hilton hotel.
  14. Did somebody else get an update for SC4 in Steam? The game just updated in Steam, but I cannot find any log about it.

    1. T Wrecks

      T Wrecks

Huh? That sounds odd. Why would they update now, after years? Maybe it was more related to Steam itself. I don't know, though, I don't have Steam.

  15. Should I Install Windows or Linux?

It depends, for what you'll be using that computer? I can recommend you Linux Mint, it is stable and easy to use, Cinnamon or MATE desktops. Currently I'm using KDE Neon 5.13 and it works fine also. All depends of learning to use the system, using Linux isn't hard, but many Windows users feel disappointing because it is not "easy" as Windows.

  23. Ibero-American Politics

In the watch of the current situation between US and MX, this is an interesting call.
  24. President Donald Trump and his Administration

More mexicans are leaving the US instead mexicans going to US. The main reasons for mexicans of leaving US or staying in the country are family and economic stability. For the much incredible it sounds, yes, the country isn't that hollywood cliche that it is very known, it is a growing country. The people who are going through the border are people from Central America and Caribbean, a humanitarian crisis is at the doorstep of North America (understand "North America" as CA-US-MX) and is a problem of US also it is a problem of Mexico too. Read more about the immigration movements in the continent before overturn the "responsibility" into a single country. In the other hand...
