I am capable of replacing the images that were uploaded for my restored STEX files, I hope? Half of the ones that were uploaded in lieu of the originals show my BATs from the rear - which, with all due respect, makes about as much sense as a child turning around to face the back wall right before their school photo is taken.

Who wants to live in the drab and boring suburbs, toiling away to pay the mortgage on a single-family home where you have to repaint the fence every year or risk becoming a pariah in the neighbors' eyes? City living is what it's all about! Cohabitation and being in the mix and whirl of society all around you! If you prefer to be living where you have five choices for takeout at midnight from the joints around the corner, then these three midrises are for you! Included in this upload are the following establishments... Montresor Tower Luchesi Place The Fortunato The first on the list is a low wealth, while the second is medium, and the third is high. No matter what your salary is and what you can afford (or nearly afford) for rent, then there's something here for you! All three are 3x3 footprints, with the first two growing at stage 7, and the last growing at stage 6. Stats and modding are in keeping with past uploads, and all are tricked out with nightlighting as usual. So go ahead and zone that medium and high density, and watch these beauties grow! Enjoy... -

A pack of six growable sets of buildings - psychics, palm and tarot readers, new age and occult bookstores. Want to know where your love line is? Are you wondering about what the next ten years hold in store for you? Do you like biographies of obscure nineteenth century spiritualists and ghost hunters? Included in this pack are the following establishments... Madame Maria's Tarot Den Sister Eva's Palmistry Parlor Olga Ouspenskaya Psychic Readings Mambo Yvette's Gris-Gris and Gumbo 'The Great God Pan' Occult Shop 'The Third Eye' New Age Bookstore Each separated into their own folders - keep the ones you like and delete the rest, or download and grow them all. All six are tricked out with nightlights as well. Dependencies and stats are listed in each building's .txt "read me" file - if I recall correctly, there's only two texture dependencies and they are both part of Pegasus' MTP texture packs...the links for downloading them are provided in the "read me" files. Enjoy! -

The sequel to my first pack of new age and occult estabishments, a pack of five growable sets of buildings. Is your girlfriend into witchcraft? Do you think that someone's put a gypsy curse on you? Could those candles and prayers really get rid of that pesky arthritis? Included in this pack are the following establishments... Bela de Roma Psychic Readings Padre Pedro's Faith Healing Wanda's Wiccan Wonders Feng Shui by Phylis Church of Simtology Test Center Each separated into their own folders, with their own individual "read me" files - keep the ones you like and delete the rest, or download and grow them all. All five have nightlights, too - perfect for Halloween! Dependencies and stats are listed in each building's .txt "read me" file - like the previous pack, there's only two texture dependencies and they are both part of Pegasus' MTP texture packs...the links for downloading them are provided in the "read me" files. (If my other volume's buildings are showing up okay, then you shouldn't have any troubles!) Ideas are brewing for yet another pack - stay tuned for more soon enough! -
I have never been able to get the "exclude" feature to work in BAT. For neon, I would recommend using a texture that has the normal diffuse map, as well as a self-illumination map. This way, you can save your window texture for the standard "nitelite" night map, and do the neon with a different method. In fact, in some of my older models, there were multiple neon colors done this way. The one downside to this technique, however, is that the neon will be lit both day and night - but depending on how bright the texture is and what the colors are, you might not notice it as such in the day render... It would look like this in the map rollout of the Material Editor...in the below situation, I've ended up using the exact same map for both, but you could theoretically use two different maps. Trial and error will yield a workflow result that you'll be happy with...

There is a (rather thick) tome out there called "The GMAX Bible," which is a very extensive and in-depth look at the program. I scored a copy from an online used book dealer ages ago, and though I haven't read the section on animation, I've found the book helpful in other regards. Some of it might not apply to BAT per se, but I am guessing there's a lot of crossover and similarity...it might be worth checking out.

So I've been messing around in an attempt to come up with what I'm calling a New Age/Occult Pack of buildings - tarot and palm readers, psychics, and new age bookstore and occult shop. It doesn't seem like anything like that has been done on the STEX, and I thought it would add a little flavor to some of the lower wealth commercial areas. I'm aiming for CS$ for the smaller, more modest ones - the psychic, the tarot reader, and the palm reader. Perhaps CS$$ for the bookstore and shop, since they're a bit more substantial, two-story, and could be considered less seedy. Ultimately, I'd love to add some form of NIMBY effect, since a lot of these types of businesses (particularly those one story psychic type shops which look like they're run out of someone's front parlor) are considered undesireable by some folks. Here they are in day and night view - I'm hoping to add and/or revise some of the signage, and the lighting has just barely begun, as I've just been getting the models and textures together. And while we're talking about lighting, I have a few lighting and window questions which you guys will probably be able to answer... - how do you do neon? - how do you do an illuminated sign? (not so much neon as plastic or another translucent material lit from behind) - what manner of lighting is more effective than just adding "nitelite" to the front of the windows? I find that works great for smaller windows, but anything large it looks like a cheat... - on large windows with printing or signage in them, how you light them as well as retain the silhouette of that lettering or signage? Any input is appreciated. And thanks for all those folks who downloaded Andy's Gun Works (my first BAT) from the STEX...hope it pops up in your low wealth commercial district soon!

@Aaron Graham - indeed, half of the time I was BATting these, my thoughts would wander and I would think, "what would Aaron Graham do?" Happy New Year to you as well, and glad to see you are still around here!- 1,133 Replies

@matias93 - thanks, I was on a roll with finding weirdly-shaped offices to break out of the standard rectangle/box mentality and to challenge myself a bit. Indeed, many of them are perfect for corners! @raynev1 - thanks. BATting is a deeply ingrained habit and hobby for me, so it's always fun to make these and fun to share them as well. I managed to finally upload the 3x3 residential towers pack, so that is now available on the STEX...hoping to share lots more good stuff via my Patreon (for those wanting first crack, "hot off the presses" style) and then the STEX in 2026...best wishes to all for a great new year!- 1,133 Replies

@brancra Yes indeed, you read my mind. Here's a little bit of what I've been up to over at the Patreon, and what should be hitting the STEX soon... This set of three 3x3 towers (in all three wealth levels) will be the next residential set... And because I cannot get enough offices, here's a medley for the next CO packs... There is also a set of 4x2 residentials that I've been working on, but I've come to a stumbling block on the last one, and I cannot seem to get my head around fixing it. But hopefully a bolt of inspiration will descend soon and hit me square in my hatted head...in the meantime, enjoy this sneak peek- 1,133 Replies

Where else are you going to keep your sprockets, widgets, and cogs? This volume is a collection of 1x1 BATs in the out subset of I-d buildings in the game, helping to keep your inventory safe and snug before it's loaded onto the truck and shipped to farflung places, all while earning a few bucks from a bit of your Sims' sweat and hard labor. Plus, they add a bit of variety to your grimey industrial sectors (as well as a place to store 1983's carbon-copy paper receipts that your accountant is so desperate to keep.) Enjoy!- 1 Comment

Been meaning to get these on the STEX for a bit, and finally succeeded. Two packs of dirty industrials - mechs and outs. I've always wanted to see more variety in my industrial zones, so I figured these would do the trick... First up are the dirty mechs - tanks and tanks and tanks... Here are the outs...a selection of sheds...- 1,133 Replies

Filtering fluid, separating sludge, and conveying all manner of waste, glop, and gooey goop, here is a collection of twelve different 1x1 "buildings" which were created to add some variety to your necessary (though cough-inducing) industrial areas. This pack is selection of BATs (primarily waste and collection tanks) under the game's mechanical subset of I-d buildings. Often industrial areas can appear rather repetitious, so these should give a bit of variation, even at the expense of air and water quality. Hope you can see past the steam and smoke enough to enjoy them!- 2 Reviews

I would pull out some of the saturation of the red bricks. Right now it is super super super red. I think it would stick out and scream "RED" when growing next to a lot of buildings in SC4, both Maxis and custom. Maybe even just 10% or 15% less saturated, and I think it would help let it blend into its SC4 surroundings.

BAT - Getting Started Guide / FAQ / Resources / Help
madhatter106 replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Right-clicking has been generally problematic in gmax on Windows 7 and 10 as well. I often find that when I need to right click for something important, I will save the file right beforehand, so in case it throws me an error and forces the program to close, I haven't lost any progress. -
The "nite" or "nitelite" needs to be added at the beginning of the object's name. So in this case, it should be "nitelite Direct_01."

The building on the far right is one of mine - it's a (so-far) unreleased office that I created recently, which will be uploaded to my Patreon soon and will be available on the STEX several months after that. This screenshot just happened to be while I was testing the growability of it and some other recent BATs that I have been working on.

Maybe your sims are looking to rest their heads on a tight budget, or are just transitioning between places. Maybe they're poor college students, or looking to downsize, or recently found themselves locked out of the house during the divorce proceedings. No matter the reason, if you can look past the moldy tile and the crumbling plaster, these are for you - presenting three little SRO (single-room occupancy) hotels, guaranteed to not break the bank while providing a (somewhat) dry roof over your head. Included in this pack are the following establishments... The Amity Hotel The Hotel DeFeo The Lutz Hotel All three of these are low wealth residential 1x2 BATs, fitting on 1x2, 1x3, and 2x2 lots, ranging from stage 4 to stage 6. Custom queries and nightlights as always, these little guys may not be impressive on the outside, but they're packed with lots of charm. So whether you're renting by the week, by the day, or by the hour, you'll find these useful - just ignore the lady next door yelling at her seventeen cats, and remember to unplug your hot plate before you leave. You never know how sub-standard the electrical wiring might be...enjoy! -

Indeed, I think I am probably just skirting the CAM border. I took a look at the office packs, and up until around volume 7, the vast majority of the buildings were falling in the stage 3, 4, 5, and 6 range. Then around volume 8 and beyond, the majority were falling into stage 5, 6, and 7. You might say my BATting got more ambitious here, lol. At any rate, I am fairly certain I have never BATted something that hits stage 8; so your assessment is probably correct - I would guess them not being CAMified would not break anything. I think perhaps 12 or 13 storeys is the tallest thing that I have BATted, and I am almost certain that has been a residential BAT that hit stage 7.- 1,133 Replies

madhatter106 replied to madhatter106's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I can't speak from experience, as I don't know the inner workings of CAM and I don't have it installed, but I would imagine there are no issues. None of my stuff is too high a stage (I think some of the offices hit stage 6, depending on the lot size.) Perhaps someone who has my stuff unmodified in their plugins folder who also runs CAM could weigh in. But my guess is that there would be no issues.- 1,133 Replies

The first residential pack is (finally) uploaded here on the STEX. The SRO hotels should also be coming soon. There are at least two more packs of residentials that are forthcoming - one is a trio of 3x3 towers (which I shared in December on the Patreon account), and another is a set of 4x2 towers which I am in the process of finishing and sharing in there in the coming months. Also in the coming months, there are two packs of small industrials (mechs and outs) to share, which should provide for some much-needed variety in the dirty and manufacturing sectors. Plus there's always more office goodness as well; we can never have enough CO$$ and CO$$$ in my mind!- 1,133 Replies

Each and every sim needs a place to call home - to rest their weary head after a hard, long day's work. Here is the first in a series of midrise residential packs for just such a purpose! From fancy uptown places of renown to seedy flophouses on the outskirts of downtown - no matter then economic strata, there's something for everyone. Included in this pack are the following establishments... Narracott Palms Lombard Apartments Rogers Court Hotel Claythorne Morris Efficiency Flats Armstrong Lofts Blore Apartments Brent Manor Davis Condos Christie Co-op The Marston Building MacArthur Place Owen's Landing Wargrave Arms Devon Terrace That's fifteen different residential BATs, a mixture of low, medium, and high wealth. All designed for corner and center lots on a minimum 2x2 footprint, and all tricked out with custom queries and nightlights as well! So whether you're an up-and-coming worker on the rise, or a well-established and respected member of the community, you're sure to find a great spot to settle down here...enjoy!
