    Drooooool.  So, so good.
  2. Grindhouse Theatre Pack

    Version 1.0

    6,461 Downloads

Do you find the recent selection at the local multiplex a little lacking? Do movie titles like I Spit On Your Grave and The Bloody Mutilators interest you more than something like The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant? If the only movies that titilate you involve atomic flesh-eating zombies and half-naked nubile young virgins in jeopardy, then these are for you - presenting six different grindhouse theaters, showing a whole range of exploitation flicks. From roughies and "nudie cuties," to "white coaters," mondo, giallo, snuff, slasher films, spaghetti westerns, and nunsploitation, these places have them all. Featured in this download are the following establishments... The Aero Theatre - showing Killer Nun The Chelsea Theatre - showing Maniac The Crown Theatre - showing Lorna The Empire Theatre - showing Sugar Hill The Glenwood Theatre - showing Blood Feast The Parkland Theatre - showing I Drink Your Blood Six different growables theatres on 1x2 lots, all of which are CS$ stages 3, 4, and 5. Jobs range from 26 to 32, with stats compiled and modded in accordance with previous uploads. All six have custom nightlights, and the only dependency required is the .dat sound file utilized in my earlier Arthouse Theatre Pack. Also check out the "readme" file, for grindhouse movie trivia and other tidbits! So, who cares if the ceiling is crumbling, the toilets are backed up, the popcorn is stale, and the wino sitting in the back row is talking to the screen? Where else are you going to find Eaten Alive or Women In Cages playing within a hundred mile radius, and at such a good bargain, too? Enjoy!

    Deeeeeeeelicious.
  4. Retro Theaters Pack

Fantastic.  These are lovely - great details.  A standing ovation!
  5. I would say that I am guilty of this - I expect that a lot of my earlier stuff has really low occupancy, though I would say it's less a matter or reluctance to do so and more of a lesser understanding of how Maxis scaled their numbers. I should go back and tweak the numbers, but it wouldn't be fun...
  6. TowerDude's Non-Towering BAT's

1x1 buildings are always nice. Even if not used in a corner configuration, this last one would look good growing on its own in a downtown CBD. The yellow might be a hair too bright and saturated; it might be just a matter of tweaking the texture and dropping the saturation as little as 5%, or adjusting the color balance or the contrast. How does it look if you dropped it into a screenshot of an in-game CBD?
  7. TowerDude's Non-Towering BAT's

Looks good. Not a fan of the rooftop texture, even though it's true to the building it's based on - mostly because of how dark and saturated it is. Unless there's a lot of custom content being used with a roof that dark, this one might stick out like a sore thumb when you look at it mixed into any given cityscape. Also, and it might be an adverse effect from the modeling, but there's a rather dark shadow running along the left hand side of the Mango sign and the windows on the left. It may be because the edge juts out a bit too much - it just looks really dark. Particularly on the sign - the lower left corner looks almost stained, it's so dark.
  8. Twinkle, twinkle, little BAT...

Been trying to BAT a little here and there, but have been terribly busy. This little guy is based off a building I've driven past many times in Pasadena. I got bogged down on what I wanted to do with the ground floor, so went ahead and textured it. I like it, I just wish it were done.... EDIT: Forced myself to tackle the ground floor as well as the nightlighting. Not too shabby. But it needs some other little details for some "oomph" and to make it sing. Still figuring that out...
  9. Yummy yummy nightlights. I love it when you get a little bit of reflective light bouncing off the walls in the interior courtyard/corners. Wish I could nightlight as good as this...
  10. Love this one, modeling and nightlighting is superb. I like all the textures except the roof, which is not my style of texture; but that's just my personal preference... Glad to see you are still going strong!
  11. JDR BATs

As soon as I saw the aerial screenshot, I said, "hey that's the Union Carbide Building." I have a pic or two of it in my reference file. Glad someone is trying to bring this one to life for SC4.
  12. Twinkle, twinkle, little BAT...

I am referencing real life buildings - I have an entire huge swipe file from which I'm drawing inspiration. As for the cornice being ambiguous, it's copied from a cornice on an office building in one of the thousands of pics in the swipe file. I omitted a tiny bit of detail on the verticals between the windows because things were starting to look a bit too busy up there, but the rest of it is not my invention. Sadly I often find that in gmax, if I take the window frames any thinner, they start getting lost in the pixels, and I have to really saturate or darken the texture on them, which then has repercussions on the look of the whole BAT; a side effect of working in such an archaic modeling program.
  13. Twinkle, twinkle, little BAT...

Thanks, all. jaredh, if you were referring to BGG Con, I was not - we were in the midst of opening the business, and we couldn't have been able to tear ourselves away to attend it. One day, though, I hope... Here's another one, that has made it into the final throes of the texturing stage. Still needs some details worked out in the front, and then the nightlighting, which I never find fun; this one's lighting needs to be perfect with the little restaurant in the front, it will be a lot of troubleshooting to get it 100% perfect...
  14. Calibrating the SC4-B.A.T. Light & Camera Rigs

I don't fuss with the cameras. I just adjust the coloring and lightness and brightness and contrast on the texture end in Photoshop. It's a bunch of back and forth of test renders, but that's what BATting should be anyways. And knowing that the roof textures are going to be the most washed-out (particular those large horizontal flat plane surfaces of rooftops), I always do this on the Photoshop end, rather than the gmax end. Ultimately I have more control in terms of pushing and pulling in Photoshop rather than gmax. My rooftop textures are really really dark when you see them in Photoshop, but when they show up in BAT, that top-down light lightens them considerably. This is why (to me) texturing is crucial, and the work done to create and edit textures as well - the slightest tweaks and adjustments can make or break a BAT.
  15. Delecto Abelia Residence

    Delightful.
  16. Requests from a Brooklynite...

When I started out, the kind/type of buildings that I wanted to see in the game were not out there. Or if they were, they were limited and not exactly as I wanted. So rather than ask someone else to do it, I learned to do it myself. Because anyone can learn to BAT - I am a prime example of this. All it takes is time and willingness. Speaking as a BAT creator, I don't take requests - because the only person I want to please is me. But that's just my personal feelings on it; some people like doing stuff for other people - sadly I'm not one of them. There's no right or wrong attached to this, just like there's no inferiority if you use custom content rather than create it. Want to get the BATs you want to see in-game? Make it happen, and make them yourself! I would encourage anyone to do this.
  17. Aronic Place

Great stuff - the variety in colors and textures is definitely appreciated.  And the little balcony details and nightlighting are top notch.  A-plus!
  18. Twinkle, twinkle, little BAT...

Hard to believe it's been nearly a year since I've kicked these BATs around. Truth be told, I have been extremely busy in 2013 with real life - been spearheading a crazy business venture which is finally coming to fruition, and which has taken just about every spare moment of my time. I don't know if it's the toughest thing I've ever done in my life, but certainly one of the most complicated...(if anyone is a big fan of board and card games and they're in the Los Angeles area, you should drop me a line and come visit...) However, as a decompression over the past couple of weeks in some of my downtime, I've managed to render the first three of the older style buildings (after salvaging the data from a dying 10 year old desktop), and added a fourth. Here's the latest, modeled, textured, and lit... I think this pack will be all buildings that are in this vein - older, more traditional, probably a mix of CO$$ and CO$$$. I'm sure there's more in me...just hoping I can find the time to pull them out...
  19. Your favorite movies

All of Greenaway's stuff fascinates me. One of my favorites is The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, And Her Lover - it's tough sledding for some people but it's definitely one of my favorite films. But one of my all-time favorites is one of his, entitled The Baby of Macon, with Julia Ormand and Ralph Fiennes (before they went on to bigger things.) I'm surprised your architecture class didn't watch The Draughstman's Contract instead of Zed...
  20. Industry Essentials

ALL of Bipin's work should be titled "essentials."  :)  Great stuff - anyone who strives to add more variety to our industrial sectors is top notch in my book...
  21. Slow's To Go

Since this upload falls under the category of BATs, you should be rating it on the worthiness of the BAT itsel, not the lotting (which you state is something that you can fix yourself).  A rating like this is the equivalent of someone relotting Maxis buildings, and then having someone rate the Maxis buildings, not the lots that were redone.   Personally, I love it - it reminds me (perversely so) of the phillipbo tutorial building in shape and window/door placement.  Always great to find another nofunk BAT on the STEX!
  22. mipro Charlotte Apartments

    Delightful!
  23. Vogue Building

Count me in amongst the disappearing breed.  Always good to see another great BAT made with good old gmax; and always a delight to see another of your BATs being released.  This one in particular is great, and I'm glad you omitted the concrete addition that was added to the building in real life.  Another classy BAT from a great BATter!
  24. The Herald and Weekly Times Building, Melbourne, Australia

Exquisite.  Beautiful modeling, beautiful details, beautiful lighting.
