About this City Journal

Welcome to all fellow mayors and Simtropolitan citizens! Today we begin my second (and hopefully first lasting) city journal, the Kingdom of Rota!

This journal works as a city-building themed fanfic and exploration of the setting of the 8th Pokemon movie: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. I don't know how familiar my audience is with this anime film, or what reception it got among the Simtropolis members and visitors who saw it, but for those who need it, more information can be found here. Not only do I like the story, but also love the setting, and especially the scenery shown in it. It's been an idea I've been cooking in my mind for a few years already and I've finally gathered enough custom game content, experience and enthusiasm to make happen.

The focus of this journal will be in three areas: recreate a selection of movie scenes and settings, expand on the Kingdom of Rota as a place beyond being a mere setting for the movie and develop a story starting roughly ten years after the movie's present day period. This story, of course, would be focused on governance, history and urbanistic aspects of the chosen place. Be prepared for dramatic scenery, participation opportunities for the followers and a whole lot more!

We're going 18 entries strong!

At last, we can begin with a message from our first two hosts, Queen Ilene and Mew!

Welcome, everyone! Today we are thrilled to have you all here, visiting our beautiful kingdom! In the last ten years, things have remained fairly quiet, but we will witness profound changes, bringing forth a new era. This will help us welcome new visitors and increase the quality of life of our subjects.

Queen Ilene: Thank goodness they finally completed it! We've been having fun at the festival but other parts of the Kingdom have suffered black-outs and brown-outs, much to the distaste of the citizens not joining us at the celebrations. R's Lucario: The palace looks amazing from here! Riley: Yeah! That first visit we had some years ago was less-than-ideal, the lake was blanketed in fog! It's such a rarity to get a day this clear in the Kingdom. R's Lucario: Let's go in! Riley: Wait for me! You know it's a long walk to get there! R's Lucario: C'mon Master, you can run faster than this! Riley: Don't spend too much energy before tomorrow's battle! R's Lucario: Pfft--Like that's gonna make a difference! Before we begin, I'd like to provide a reminder to the CJ followers (especially prospective ones), and that is to subscribe to the journal, rather than to the individual posts. That way you'll be notified when the upcoming entries are posted. Without further delays, here we go! Queen Ilene: Welcome everyone! Today we commence our grand, week-long celebration of the Festival of the Guardian! This event commemorates the Kingdom's heroes, Sir Aaron and his Lucario, who stopped the warring armies from...

Before we start, here's the replies to my fourth entry commenters: Spoiler @89James89 Thank you! The map I'm using is partially terraformed, the basic map being Berchtesgaden, courtesy of Blunder. It features an alpine valley in southern Germany. I reduced the vertical scale, added the water bodies and modified mountains to facilitate construction of settlements with scenic backdrops. I later expanded it to the east, where I'll be putting much of the modern infrastructure of my region. @Simmer2 Thanks...

Finally! Got the third part of the town and village tour ready! Here it is for everyone to enjoy! Jenny Salisbury: Your Highness, my apologies for interrupting your breakfast, but I believe we have to provide another update about the Kingdom. Are we ready to resume the tour? Queen Ilene: Yes, indeed we are! And I think I know where we can stop once we finish, the remaining places will only require travel during the morning. Welcome again! We will now finish the tour of the towns and villages by...

Before we start, I want to thank @Silur and @89James89 for staying tuned to this project! I'll make sure it's updated regularly. Typical update schedule will be 2-3 entries per week, or if I'm busy, no more than 2 weeks between entries. Since this is a long weekend for me, I expect to have an additional entry by Monday. With that out of the way, let's go to today's content! ֍ TOWN OF BRANDT ֎ Queen Ilene: Welcome again! After visiting the town of Alba, we now move to the town of Brandt, which is...

Spoiler Spoiler Queen Ilene: Welcome again! This weekend I'll be conducting a tour to visit the smaller and humbler communities of the Kingdom! Despite absolute power being invested into my position, I always strive to keep in touch with my subjects, their worries and their aspirations. Hmmm....now where did Mew venture off? Jenny Salisbury: Oh, dear Ilene, you know how the little fella is: he gets bored easily and probably went off to wander elsewhere in the Kingdom. Although you might as well do...

Welcome to the first day of our adventure! Today Mew and I want to tell you of what's been of the Kingdom ten years after the dramatic events that once unfolded on this land. We're not quite ready to share the events that did unfold back then, but we do want to give you a nice tour of the main locations around Rota. Since the passing of the last decade, Rota has experienced considerable growth, back in the day, even Cameran was a fairly small town, but it has grown dramatically to 51,000 inhabitants! As...
