Rather big update so bear with me.

So I resolved the multi tile pipe river span by making the footing a separate lot.

So far I got the 1,2 and 3 tiles done (that's actually 5,6 and 7 flat tiles) one more to go and then its crunch time.

I think once done, the pack will have well over 30 pieces!

The whole assembly relies the 15m rule. As long as you start at sea level and work your way up you are good. The water depth must always be 15m or more deep (deeper water will not affect the height of the footing). This obviously applies only to the pipe path, the rest of the map can be whatever altitude you wish.

Here is an example of the possible footing combinations and the 15m transition piece applied to the map. You can choose not to use the footing if you wish to have a clear path for your boats (not aesthetically conducive but hey, its your map and you do what you like )

There is also a couple more pics showing what I'm working on as well. (work in progress)

...

YES!! This pipe pack looks great, transitions, footings, pipes, options are what its all about.

Also looking forwards to the water flora and rocks.

Great work.

Ladies and Gentlemen its Christmas in August!

@kelistmac Wonderful little scenes, I always like seeing that Japanese Streetside Mod in action too.

In case you're interested in fixing up the Maxis sidewalk textures on my shop (and many other lots), I've an automated tool that will do it for you:

WORK IN PROGRESS --

THE JADE BIGHT --

WILHELMSHAVEN:

(Click to make bigger.)

I've been wondering how to put this lot to use -- and think I've come up with just the thing.

Three views of what they call "The Old Arsenal Building".  It's all that's left of an old fortress that was built to guard the rear of the naval base.  Rather obsolete, the fortress was demolished long ago, but the citadel was considered to be of some value.  The ground floor houses restaurants and shops while the upper floors have office space.

With extensive use of Paeng's park lots, and various parking and filler lots, it has been turned into the perfect place to walk under the trees, spend whopping wodges of cash, and sit on the terrace with a large Expresso and a Viennese pastry.

@CT14  -- I do like that.  Are you planning to release the lot??  (I hope!)

Yo -- People --

I have just been informed that I could do miracles with my cities if I started using the "Paeng Ped-Mall Parks".

I looked them up -- but as Paeng pointed out -- they are not your simple "point and plop" type of lot.

His notes indicated a need for Nam.  I am currently using Nam32 (may upgrade in the coming months).

Is there a tutorial, by any chance  -- or can someone give me a quick block of instruction on what the lot properties and restrictions are ??

For example -- are they pedestrian enabled so shops without a road can be reached from the Ped-mall ??

@Dreadnought thanks, gotta fix a few things then release it.

Regarding ped malls in general: they satisfy commercial and industrial commuter access. Building streets, growing the zones then bulldozing to build ped malls is easiest. I used to additionally use rail freight for industrial areas that were roadless, to keep freight times down.

@Dreadnought With mods that utilise any part of the NAM, it is usually enough to have a version that is uptodate when the mod was made (2011). Any newer version of the NAM should work well... (pedmalls have not been changed much by the NAM team in the recent years anyways)

Also remember to read the Read-Me --> everything is kind of explained in there :read:

About Pedmalls, it is useful to remember that they viewed a very important update in NAM 33: streets, roads and avenues now are adequately pathed to allow free pedestrian interchange between them and pedmalls, so it is not more necessary to use 'interchanger' lots, as bus or subway stops.

Got a few more shots of the naval base.  (It's a big base -- takes up room for an entire middle-sized map tile.)

This is the east side of the main base where most of the actual work goes on.  There are two replenishment piers for the battle line.  Any vessels returning to port are nudged into position by tugs and begin the task of taking on fuel oil, fresh water, victuals, and -- if necessary -- ammunition.  The piers can also be used for minor upgrade and modernization work on the battleships.  You also have a partial overview of the base.

And here you have the rail siding that supplies the battle line directly -- along with the ammunition bunkers for the big brutes. (lol)

Impressive pictures once again, @Dreadnought! Turning one of those battle wagons around in that port looks like a pretty close shave, though - but I'm sure your tuggers are pros.

It's a pity we don't have many highly detailed ship props, especially not from the WWI era, probably the heyday of the battleship... so no SimJutland battle in sight. Would be nice to see one of the American cage mast dinosaurs, too. Oh well, that stuff is probably too complicated to make and won't find many takers.

Yo, T-Wrecks -- !

Nice to hear from you -- and thanks for the kind words.  I'm not exactly "original" -- but I DO try to make the most of what we have available.

You're right.  I'd dearly love to see some WWI era ships.  (I'm a history buff -- especially naval -- and the 1900 - 1920 period is my favorite.)  I find it curious that the bulk of the warship lots on the exchanges come from Japanese artists.  If it weren't for their ingenuity and determination, we would have precious little to work with.  It would absolutely MAKE MY DAY to see a lot for a US California Class BB (my avatar).

Hello Everybody!

I brougth two more pieces, I realized I missed them earlier...

Seaport_Test_City-Sep._24__031473251654_

I may need some help. I made a bunch of filler pieces which have actually own groups, but in the game menu they are appearing here-and-there, well actually they appear on those locations as the original PEG docks (I think the hex number of the item order is 0x0....5), but after this point for example "filler-A-01" appears the begining of the list, "filler-A-02" a little bit more down, but there are some other pieces between them etc.
I would like to organize the each pieces of each groups under each other.
For example I have these "groups" under the fillers "section":

DTR-STR (8 pieces)
STR Only (4 pieces)
and the rest which doesn't have actual tags but I have
2 additional parking lots (3x5, 4x6)
2 Warehouse Outer Corner Dock Ending
4 additional pieces for the PEG set (2x5 Break-Bulk, 2x5 Container Dock, 4x5 kind of mixture)
3 additional pieces for the PEG RCI set (two 2x5 transition piece between the 5 tiles set and the 3 tiles deep RCI dock lot, and a 2x3 RCI lot with containers)
1 additional pieces for the 6 tile deep lots, it's 3x6 mixed stuff
and then the 10 big lots (well actually they are more or less on the same place after each other, but 2 of them - 2 with the CAL canal pieces - are nearly the begining of the list, but the rest is the end of the first pack - I mean, the first pack is the original PEG 1x5 docks (item order 0x0...5), the second pack I think the original PEG warehouses (item order 0x0...14), the third pack Freight Port - FP - lots, the fourth pack Tamorr's Rail port, and NBVC's Modular Container port pieces are nearly the end of the whole menu).
But these bigger lots are mixed too.

So how can I make some order (more efficient way than the item order) among these lots.
I show one part of the lot names in my folder:

Filenames_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.png

Oh, I almost forgot, the building examplar names in all cases follow this structure: SP Dock 0x0 given lot name (original creator)
(creators: original PEG, Tamorr, NBVC, Heretic - yes, that's my author name)
All the "given" name of the fillers of mine start with "Filler Piece", like SP Dock 2x6 Filler Piece DTR-STR Mixed Goods (Heretic).

With one small exception, as of NAM 34, Pedmalls are automatically enabled for transit, just like roads. Only pedestrians will use them however.

On versions before NAM 34,  It's necessary for Sims to transfer from a Transit Station, such as a Bus or Subway stop to the pedmalls. This station must be in contact with a continuous line of pedmalls or pedestrians will simply not use them. This is no longer required if you have upgraded to the latest NAM.

All pedmalls are suitable for Commercial and Industrial developments. But will not work with residential.

Paeng's Mod isn't all that complex to setup. It's based on part of a mod called the Japanese NAM facelift mod. I've a tutorial for installing that here:

Once that's installed, proceed to installing Paeng's mod as directed. The only change the mod adds, is that when you click a spot again with a pedmall, the "lot" on the pedmall will cycle randomly. By default they show a simple light pole. But with this mod, there is a selection of flora, plazas and other street furniture to liven up pedmall lined areas. Note though that random = much clicking to get what you want.

If you need further help on the PedMalls, check the NAM Documentation found in \Documents\SimCity 4\NAM Auxiliary Files\Documentation. Page 28 of the file "NAM31 Users Manual.pdf" contains full instructions.
