A recent post in the BAT request thread asked for some modern mansions/villas.

This is the first of a series. They will all be large R$$$ homes designed for 3x3, 3x4 and 4x3 lots:

I'll bat a few more for variety and then release them.

This is fantastic! I've always been surprised at how hard it is to find larger, cohesive sets of R$$$ low-density houses. A lot of one-off houses out there, but outside of a few sets (your McMansion series being a notable one), it's difficult to build a cohesive R$$$ neighborhoods. Would be wonderful to have your McMansion set for Houston use, and this one available for the Euro tileset.

Here are a couple of examples of one of the things I do to keep track of neighbor connections across different city tiles.  Since my region uses all large tiles, there are many connections on each border.  I use an Excel spreadsheet to denote what each connection is so they can be kept uniform across different city tiles.  This includes regular streets and roads as well as greenways, transit lines, railways and highways...and even elevation changes.  They also help maintain appropriate transit station spacing across city tiles.  I call them Connection Maps.  Each spreadsheet accounts for a full tile (east to west - north to south will come later) and the top and bottom row identifies the tiles that surround this one.

This one is for Downtown Quadrant Four:
HAvVBIk.png

This one is for Vancouver - East.  Here you can see the city limits noted to separate Vancouver and Burnaby, though they are located in the same tile.
ZdqObPH.png

All in all, while they take some work to lay out...I find them very, very resourceful.  It's nice being able to reference this and know exactly what connections are where without having to exit and reload another tile to find out.

I need help deciding on the ground texture for my new city zoo. All four textures I am testing look good to me. All textures are from SimCity 4 and don't need any new depends. all but the red brick use BSC textures vol 1. Adding that one would only make it have four dependences, not a problem.

What's your favorite?

@Kloudkicker

I favor the "tannish' -- I call it "sandstone", for lack of a better name.  I use it in a lot of paving tile situations in parks and plazas.

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

(Harry Lime to Holly Martins...Graham Greene's THE THIRD MAN...1949)

I love these houses, maybe it is my pc that is not so optimal for exporting the video game. The details are beautiful and sharp :-)

Your BATs are fantastic, wish they would get released.

Also kind of brings me back to my FSH experiments of taking photoshopped renders and inserting them into blank LODS. You could update some old BATs into completely fresh models. Just a shame it was such a long winded process.

Brick or tan looks fine. If it were me, I'd ditch the parking lots(at least the one in back) and add a couple of buildings for those wee creatures(also known as prey) that can't be in the general areas. I'd also add 2 or 3 extra sections so that the user can be more modular with it. They are parks, so they can go anywhere.

The chicken coops, kennels, and various sheds in those areas more than cover the need for prey housing, no?

Any chance you'll ever grace the STEX with some of these?  The BoA and MetLife towers are beautiful.  Share the wealth, my man!

My intensions were to build a zoo that was built on an old farm. Some old buildings still remain and used. I am coping the concept of the city zoo in my city.
The idea with the back parking lot is the original zoo does not focus on the workers side of the zoo. It's only for the visitors, where do sims work?, where do the animals sleep?, and so on.
Now they have somewhere to do their work. And I never really cared for the original. This one, the sims are free to roam around, and not stuck walking on paths.

You can go all out and get crazy with building lots. Where do you stop?

I have not attempted doing modular lots before. I think it would be something that would require some before thought and planning. And besides, I am about ready to move on to the next project *:ohyes:, so maybe next time*:8). I would like to do something modular sometime.

Thank you for your input, I do appreciate it.

I was hoping so. Actually the coop is for fresh food(eggs and meat) and a little visual fun for the urban mayors. (Do you wonder if he ever catches the chicken?)

Lately I've been working on building the layout for my region. It's not exactly a whole city but more so one section of a city and its outskirts. So far, I've laid out some sprawling suburbia and parkways and have tried my best to make it not look too flat, but not too hilly. Most of these outskirts will be modern suburbia, middle/upper middle class and the use of slope tolerant houses should give them a very dynamic, realistic look once its all done.

Op2HorT.png

Very difficult needless to say, lot's of trial and error. The bulk of what I've done is newer sprawl, so I've tried to keep it from looking gridlike, and the roads are a little less sophisticated since that's usually how it works here in Texas, they don't widen/upgrade the roads until there's too much growth.  * But towards the east there will be freeways, wider roads, junctions, etc. The plans really to get the city running eventually, and then continue the sprawl realistically.
