@Dreadnought, if I am not mistaken, are those naval destroyers? Also, I am loving that dock work you made, and those rock embankments are a good touch too!

Yo, Artimus --

I'm glad you like what you see - !  :thumb:

The docks were re-lotted from the PEG Naval  lots (and I think the PEG stuff grew out of the SNM Military System.)

The ships at the docks are United States "Iowa Class" BATTLESHIPS.  These were the last actual battleships launched by the US Navy right at the end of WW II.  They were "big bruisers" back in 1945 and they were, over the years, alternately retired and reactivated -- and modernized -- several times.  You can see the last weapons system upgrade on the "bat" model in the picture -- cruise missiles.  The last one was finally retired in 1992 and all have been parceled-out to various coastal states as museum ships.

I don't want to get into a "history lesson" -- but in recent times, it is an easy thing to confuse the actual "ship classes" in world navies.  I think that is due to the fact that "big-gun" ships were made obsolete by aircraft and ant-ship missiles.  Smaller cruisers took over the role of the larger battleships -- and destroyers actually grew considerably larger to take on the role of the cruisers.  It doesn't help that many news broadcasters often refer to a warship as a "battleship" -- not because they ARE a "BATTLESHIP" -- but because they are a ship, and they go into battle.

In Sc4, PEG had released several Naval "sets":

"PEG-CDKN - Navy Pier One" is the first set and it uses an "Iowa Class" BATTLESHIP as the warship.

Navy Pier Two is supposed to represent an "Aegis Missile Cruiser" -- though they have taken a little "artistic license" with the ship image -- and seem to have combined a missile cruiser with a missile destroyer in the process.

Navy Pier Three is supposed to be a "naval reserve" center.  The warships depicted in the set are US Navy "Fletcher Class" Destroyers from WW II.

Navy Pier Four represents modern submarines -- though the actual ship modeled is somewhat androgynous.  It appears to resemble a US submarine of the "attack class" -- not a missile boat.

Keep your eye on my CJ -- The Jade Bight.  Wilhelmshaven is the first of my map tiles to have a naval base.  There will be more -- and they will use a variety of the PEG kits and stuff I have re-lotted.  For example -- my navy will have submarines too!  But I'm going to have Missile boats, attack subs, and patrol subs as well !!

Sorry -- I got a bit carried away. :ooh:

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

@Dreadnought, No, you did not get carried away, your knowledge on these things tickles my nerdy self on history and naval warfare myself. True that aircraft carriers did outclass the traditional true battleships of old. Truly, the modern navy embraces much more on mobility over raw firepower these days.

Yes, I will definitely follow your CJ as you have interesting developments there. In fact, I was considering making a CJ for myself, as I felt that I needed to make a sort of "interactive album" of my work to other people.

Thanks!

- Artimus

Been working on figuring out my mysterious "Draggable FA Power Plyon". After fumbling around my test city tile for well over an hour, I have finally found a reliable way to replicate it. Infrastructure fans take note! :D

Can this be placed on slopes?

This is an amazing advancement by itself, but it is more amazing considering there is no mod involved, only an standard feature 'discovered' and documented 13 years after the game release.

The Jade Bight --

QUESTION:

Has anyone experienced a problem getting Somy's tugboats to work??  I keep plopping them -- but nothing ever shows up on the map.

I'm working on a small historical city centre. I'm still trying to get better commercial buildings to grow next to the train station.

That's an interesting beginning for sure! :golly: What I'm not so sure about is the combination of that castle and the bridge. IMO, the bridge is better suited for a large capital city - I'd expect palaces and monuments where I see such a bridge, just like in Paris, London, or Vienna. The castle and the buildings we can see so far, however, remind me of a much smaller and more rural medieval town. Of course I don't know what else you're planning, just thought I'd leave this feedback here.

Anyway, that castle hill will be quite the landmark, even if it's not that tall!

I also like your second version better. BTW, below your castle and directly below the diagonal houses by prepo, there's a large diagonal building. May I ask you about the link for this building?

Thanks @11241036! The big diagonal is by Cycledogg, he released quite a few similar buildings during the SC4D advent calendar event.

The one you're asking for comes in ortho and diagonal, the link is here.
And if you follow the rest of these links you can find the rest of his buildings here, here, here, here, here, and here. They are super handy because most come in ortho and diagonal/FAR, and are very slope tolerant.
