About This File

Motown Records was founded by Berry Gordy, Jr. in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan. Gordy purchased 2648 West Grand Boulevard, where he boldly hung a sign “Hitsville U.S.A.” over the front door. Motown would be headquartered there for the next decade, absorbing adjoining buildings on both sides of the street, transforming it into a hits factory. Hitsville U.S.A. and an attached house were converted into the Motown Museum in 1985.

With the slogan "The Sound of Young America", Motown Records was a powerful force of racial integration in the 1960s, making pop-infused R&B that was accessible to young people of all races. Kids jumped police-guarded barriers segregating concerts, venues which previously banned black artists began allowing them, and the Motown Sound permeated through all of American culture.

This BAT is uploaded in celebration of Black History Month.

That has to be the first wheel chair accessible bat I've seen in SC4. Very unique. Nice job.

Can you PLEASE attempt to do a casino or two that has lots of flashing lights, parking, very glitzy, neon signs, very Vegas-y?   :)   Please...we need some cool casinos!    ;)

Wow, I love both the building and the thought behind! :golly: Not only a great BAT (as usual from you guys), not only something from Michigan (as usual from you guys), not only a recreation (as usual from you guys), but this time also a monument of culture and integration.

Every day with a mipro upload is a good STEX day. :)

Oh, actually there's a bunch of buildings with wheelchair ramps around. However, in most cases you need to look closely, whereas here the ramp is very prominent. It's indeed the building with the most prominent wheelchair ramp that I know.

I was Operations Director at the museum from 1991 to 1996, as a result I supervised the 1995 renovation. Excellent recreation! It was my idea to put in the wheelchair ramp.

Black history?  Up here in the frozen north we tend to think of the Underground Railroad and the advantages we have from those who arrived.  Good job, however.  Thanks.  5/5

Wow! Motown hits SimCity! All we need now is a motortown revue bus, the Harlem Apollo theatre, Diana Ross & the  'Sim'premes and it's a full set!
