[SOLVED] SC4 laggy / stuttering on Linux with Bottles
Han Solo posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
tl;dr: If you're having performance issue when running SimCity 4 in a Bottle, try changing the Runner to something other than soda. ------ I've just recently had to install SC4 from scratch on a new Debian Linux PC. My installation method of choice was installing the GoG version of the game, using a Bottles "Bottle" which was created using the "Gaming" preset. After installing the game, I configured the resolution and colour depth using command line arguments, and installed the latest version of dgVoodoo2. Other than that, I also installed NAM and CAM but the game is otherwise stock. When playing the game and using right click and drag to move the camera, the game was intially slow to repond and then, when trying to move the camera for a second time, the game would not respond at all. Subsequent attempts would result in the camera either moving a very small amount or moving the desired amount... or not moving at all. It seamed to vary according to when I attempted to move the camera. It was also more severe at higher zoom levels. Clicking on UI elements was much the same story. Sometimes nothing would happen when clicking on a menu item or the exit button. I tried making various changes to the dgVoodoo2 config. I also tried following @MegaMiku's instructions for gettting dgVoodoo2 working on Linux. I thought I'd found the cause of my issues when I saw that DDraw.dll was not present at all in my WineCFG's Libraries menu (there is a ddrawex entry though). The next thing I tried turned out the be the fix I was looking for... I selected the SimCity 4 Bottle. Then under the Options section, I clicked "Settings" and in the "Components" section, I changed the Runner from Soda-9.0.1 to sys-wine-11.0. The change takes seconds and seams to have resolved my performance issues. So my advice to any fellow Linux and Bottles user is, before trying any other more involved or time consuming fixes, try just changing your Runner first. -

[Solved] Updated to Windows 10... crash after 10 seconds - No Audio Bug
Josh6 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hi everyone, After playing on my computer since about 2009, I finally upgraded to a proper gaming computer with Windows 10. I downloaded from GOG without the GOG launcher and downloaded the patches. However, even with a clean plugins folder my game crashes after about 10 seconds on the region view--with the vanilla and region transferred from my other computer. Here is everything in my SC4 folders and the exception report. Am I missing anything? Thanks! SimCity Exception Report 2020.06.12 11.48.47.txt -
This is the solution for SC3KU players that are having a problem with this kind of disaster. Some say that saving and reloading the game after all the locusts has been repelled, they're swarming again and causing more chaos at the moment (especially if your cities were planned to have so many trees). Don't panic, when you've already repelled the locusts, just wait about several minutes and the disaster should be over. Note: I found this solution when I was about to search for it when the disaster was occurred, suddenly it's over in the meantime. Therefore, I write this solution to help you guys afterwards. 😄😎

This issue has been solved. I started up the NAM36 installer again and unchecked the "Decoupling of networks" (or whatever its called), unchecked all RHW options, then re-checked all RHW options and proceeded with installation. Everything now works. Very odd. Hopefully this is of use to someone.

I just installed the freight yards and the rail is not running through it. I have downloaded and installed all the texture and prop packs required. What else could it be?

As promised, we have begun to rebuild. It's taking a while to get all my plug-ins back in order but in the mean time the main city grids are being put into place. The southern suburb, the City of Jenks, Oklahoma. South Tulsa neighborhood/district, Tulsa Hills. and the Southwest Tulsa neighborhood of Carbondale.

[SOLVED] "GooberGen Air Purification Plant" installer not running, is there any other source?
Carlosedu1 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
So... Basically I wanted to install SimGoober's GooberGen Air Purification Plant, downloaded the installer from SC4D LEX, yet Windows 10 keeps rejecting the .exe with the message "This app can't run on your PC: to find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher" and the auto-deletes it. Tried a bunch of stuff, running as Admin, compatibility mode, disabling Windows Defender/Smartscreen, creating a new Admin account, nothing worked. That said, I would like to know if there is any other means of aquiring this specific lot file? Preferably one that doesn't include an installer? Not sure if I'm willing to mess my computer any further over one .exe when manually installing would only take me seconds. -
So I recently got a new computer with Windows 10 (previously ran on 7), new hardware etc. The game starts and runs fine (looks very nice on this fancy new graphics card). However, the game freezes every few times I try to save or save and exit to region view. Not every single time, mind you. I thought I had fixed it for a while by turning off the music; after doing this I saved and loaded 3-4 different cities and thought the problem was gone, but eventually the game froze again. When I say "freezes" I mean that the game becomes unresponsive and the music (if on) plays for about 3 seconds then loops. The really annoying part is that even if I open Task Manager, I can't bring it to the front so I can't kill SC4 that way, and alt-tabbing out and clicking the "X" to close it (or right-clicking on the task bar and telling it to close) doesn't work either. So I am forced to reset my computer to get it to close SC4. I have already used the command line to set the intro off, the affinity to one CPU core, and set a custom resolution. Like I said, the game starts up and runs fine, it just locks up every 3rd or 4th time I try to save. I copied my plugins folder directly over, if that has any relevance. Oh, and this is the GOG.com version, I downloaded that new rather than copying the installer I downloaded when I installed it on my old PC. As a speculative fix, I have tried setting compatibility mode to Windows 7, and (I think) given the exe file all permissions, however this problem still occurred when I ran SC4 as an administrator, so I'm not sure about all that. I have not tried the game again yet because I don't want to have to reset my computer again just now, but I will try it sometime today. I figure that I should post this anyway in case someone else has the same problem, because I looked back through about 12 pages of this forum and didn't find anything. Thoughts?

[SOLVED :D] Problems when rendering a region
peperodriguez2710 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hello, I don't know if somebody has already solved this problem, sorry if I'm repeating it. Maybe my problem it's created because of a stupid reason, I don't know, sorry I've been creating a custom region using parts of other regions and sculpting in SC4 Terraformer. After finishing it, I created the config.bmp, saved it as a SC4M file, and as a PNG greyscale in the region folder. When I entered SC4, the region was displaying the city borders acording to the config.bmp, and started rendering the greyscale PNG image. When after an hour it finished, the region was all water tiles or land tiles with no elevation changes, completely flat. I tried using .bmp and tried rendering without any open program open or process active at the same time, but results are the same: the region is a flat ocean with sometimes flat land tiles. And I don't think it's the water height problem, because cities are completely flat, and the region has pretty big mountains. I also tried to use a jpeg greyscale, but SC4 didn't read it. (I don't include pics of that flat regions, but I can add them, though I think it's not necessary, my explanation it's exactly what it is) I don't know what to do! Any thoughts? Is the issue realated with the greyscale image (I add it if is needed)? Thanks in advance ^^ -
Hi Simtropolis, As a fan of large airports I am a bit annoyed about the fact that I can't download ACB-VLT Terminals & Jets Series 1 -- Part 2 from the STEX because of server issues. I am not trying to be rude mind you. It is also my fault for having particularly uselessly slow internet at 30-40 KB/s. I was wondering if someone could post the .zip folder on dropbox or similar so I could download the wonderful file it is! If this can't be done due to permission issues I might contact Ace or Voltaire. Thanks
