  1. Reward buildings

Somewhere I saw a list of reward buildings that showed the entire building positives and negatives; why/where to build v. why not. Does anybody know a link that gives these descriptions?
  2. Brownsville Loves Landfill ... Seriously! This post is another little tutorial on NIMBY and YIMBY, describing SimCity 4 game mechanics for stable R$ residential neighbourhoods, pockets of highly profitable C$$ development lining high volume highways, and wealth creation in manufacturing (I-M) cities. stench · stɛntʃ · noun 1. an offensive smell or odor; stink. 2. a foul quality. 3. a distinctive odor that is offensively unpleasant. fetor, foetor, reek, whiff, niff, pong, malodour, mephitis, noisomeness. Now, we all know that there's few things that sims hate worse than landfill. Seriously, the NIMBY effects of just one tile of landfill are worse than Area 5.1 Top Secret, worse than heavy air pollution, and almost as bad as the Toxic Waste Dump ... and we all know what happens when we plop one of those in a city. Come on, you've all done that at least once, admit it! If that's a surprise to you, finding out that landfill is almost as bad as a Toxic Waste Dump, then you really need to read my other post, Ten Silent Killers of SimCity 4 Commercial Growth. One of the very few things that sims hate worse than landfill or a Toxic Waste Dump, is heavy water pollution. Landfill causes urban decay of medium wealth R$$ and high wealth R$$$ neighbourhoods. It causes medium wealth C$$ and high wealth C$$$ commercial buildings to dilapidate and vacate. Depending on the wind direction, sims can smell the landfill stench from 32 tiles away. Very delicate noses they all have! Brownsville Is Different ... My Brownsville, New York large city tile is primarily a high density, low wealth R$ and manufacturing (I-M) city, with a few C$$ commercial zones clustered around the ferry terminal areas, and lining the highways with heaviest traffic volumes. Brownsville will be doing pollution management very carefully, and being a large city tile, we've scads of room to have a few Waste to Energy Plants in the far corner, next to the Army Base, International Airport, and Federal Prison. We'll also be buying all the trash that Canarsie and other neighbours offer us, much to the great relief of Canarsie Pol residents! But that's not the reason that Brownsville loves landfill! Brownsville loves landfill so much, that Danielle, my city mayor, has no less than 6 landfill sites dotted around the large city tile. For every other city tile I've built in the last few years, I just put landfill all in one place, usually in a far corner, right next to my airport, power plants, and dirty industry (I-D), but not for Brownsville. Keeping the Rich Scoundrels Out Have any of you experienced unwanted gentrification in your neighbourhoods? You carefully plan out a low wealth R$ residential area, put in schools and hospital, and with the addition of just one Small Park Green (1x1) plop, you suddenly have R$$ sims buying up multiple lots for their big back yards and swimming pools, or R$$$ sims buying the big 3x4 lots you zoned for high density, and building their low density villas and estates. How annoying! You bulldoze one villa, and before you know it, another has risen up in it's place! Now, there are tax strategies that you can use to prevent that, such as 20% tax on high wealth residential R$$$. That will do the trick, but it essentially bars high wealth sims from your entire city, and Brownsville does have one little high wealth R$$$ neighbourhood planned, and we DO want a few high wealth sims as company executives and industrial barons. You could just avoid plopping any parks in the R$ neighbourhood ... but even a distant Medium Plaza in a neighbouring C$$ district could raise the YIMBY desirability the slightest bit above zero, and your R$ neighbourhood disappears, inch-by-inch. Some rich sims will build their R$$$ estates, even without any YIMBY there at all. Sure, they'll dilapidate, and be replaced by a medium wealth R$$ family, but high density R$ opportunities are lost. There's also heritage listing, striped, checkerboard, and higgledy-piggledy zoning techniques that will stop many kinds of gentrification in it's tracks, but Brownsville will have literally close on a hundred of these 3x4 low wealth R$ tenements ... exactly the kind of land zoning that rich R$$$ sims love for building their own private castle. So how to stop them??? How do we stop these rich sims from swooping in and taking over? You guessed it, landfill is the perfect solution! Local Landfill as a Benefit In an area dedicated to R$ high rise tenements, and R$ row houses, landfill is a benefit. Not only does it keep the rich scoundrels out of the neighbourhood — with a NIMBY value of 100, it even means you can plop a lovely little Playground in the low wealth R$ neighbourhood, or a Small Park Green. You can plonk a Small Plaza among the nearby shops, without fear that rich sims will suddenly move into the neighbourhood and take over. I cannot count the number of times I've longed to gift my R$ sims with a few little parks ... now I can. Only one or two, mind! With a little local landfill, you don't have to be quite so afraid that the YIMBY gradient from the Medium Plazas in the nearby C$$ business district, or the big parks and tennis courts in a nearby R$$$ district, will push low wealth R$ sims outside commute distance from their manufacturing (I-M) jobs. No surprises that the R$$ and R$$$ sims who are so eager to buy up their houses and rebuild, don't even want those nearby manufacturing jobs, leaving the factories to be staffed by the oompa-loompas. I used to be afraid of landfill — not any more. Landfill is just one NIMBY factor, and for Brownsville, a city with an economic backbone of low wealth R$ residents and manufacturing (I-M), it's a very useful NIMBY factor. We value our low wealth R$ sims ... so we give them the best gift of all, landfill = economic stability. City Planning with Landfill As a single mom, Danielle, my city mayor of Brownsville, is no stranger to the exigencies of the R$ low wealth sim's life experiences. She's lived on the other side of the tracks, which is part of what makes her the perfect city mayor for these many high density low wealth R$ neighbourhoods. The R$ sims really don't have much need for YIMBY. They mostly want stable employment, low pollution, a nearby bus stop, and not to be priced out of their little houses and units by rising rents. With a 100 NIMBY value, the reek of landfill is potent, but it only extends 32 orthogonal tiles in each direction, and less on the diagonals. By careful planning and positioning, you can keep the landfill NIMBY completely outside of C$$ commercial areas lining the arterial roads and highways of your cities. Out of sight, out of mind. By careful positioning, you can keep the landfill NIMBY out of the R$$ and R$$$ neighbourhoods, where it causes dilapidation and urban decay. In those cases where you need more flexibility, just 2 Small Park Greens, or else a little Playground, Small Plaza, plus an Open Paved Area, will nullify the landfill NIMBY effects in a 15 tile radius. For a small city tile, 64x64 tiles on each side, you can use the landfill in just one corner to produce a YIMBY/NIMBY gradient, low wealth R$ in the landfill corner, medium wealth R$$ and high wealth R$$$ and commercial C$$ in the other three quadrants, with medium wealth R$$ and C$ in-between. The landfill NIMBY, like all NIMBY and YIMBY effects, declines with distance. For a large city tile like Brownsville, with many many high density low wealth R$ residential neighbourhoods, having 6 different landfill sites is an asset, not a liability. Danielle will use a very light sprinkling of parks or playgrounds near most of landfill sites, to mitigate the worst of the landfill NIMBY effects. Now, if you want all your neighbourhoods to get rich and gentrify, then by all means export your trash to another city tile. Here at Brownsville, we're keeping our trash, and we're happy to take yours, too! Here's my draft city planning for large city tile, Brownsville, if you'd like to see. My other post today, Google Satellite virtual tour of a low wealth SimCityscape, explains the logic behind my early city planning decisions: Two tile Streets to draft out RHW-4 highways and high capacity interchanges ... that's one of my next jobs to do. Bold dark NRD-4 Roads to draft out Heavy Rail, passenger and freight on the same line. Heavy Rail is a fast and cheap form of Mass Transit, so I'll build the tracks immediately, but I'll hold back on Passenger Train Stations until road traffic and/or commute-based unemployment starts to bite. Having more sims on the roads is good for C$ and C$$ growth. Light AVE-2 Roads to draft out super-fast Monorail route between R$$, R$$$ and C$$ zones, which will be a very long time coming before I can afford to actually plop the Monorail stations. 4x4 brown tiles to indicate Landfill sites. I might use Dezone (V) tool to make them smaller. 2x2 is probably a nice size. YIMBY gradient favouring R$$ and R$$$ zones in the east, near the water ways, Hendrix Creek canal and Fresh Creek Nature Preserve. There'll be a bit of a YIMBY gradient approaching some of my commercial C$$ zones, too, though I've taken other steps and plans to mitigate that. Army Base exclusion zone defined and filled with God mode trees. Quick Level Brush already done, to make interchange building, zoning, and city building, oh so much easier! Waterways terraformed and beautified. Three OWR-4 ferry loops built and five ferries plopped, already!
  3. Hello SC4 World! I'm reading SimCity Prima Guide and I have a small and simple doubt. Commercial and Residencial YIMBY is the same that, respectively, landmark effect and park effect? These factors are combined or independents?

Maybe you're not brave enough to venture into the Eros Theatre to catch Robot Nymphos Conquer Uranus, or you don't have the cash for the entry fee and two-drink minimum to visit Tiffany at your favorite gentlemen's club. If that's the case, or if you don't have a high-speed internet connection so you can download Fratboy Spanking Volume 8, then this third set of NIMBY buildings is for you - presenting six different adult-oriented book and video stores over a series of fifteen lots, guaranteed to carry that title which will make a lonely Friday night just a little less lonely. Featured in this download are the following establisments... Ned's Adult Newsstand 'The Brown Bag' Bookstore Dirty Dave's Discount DVD Spanky's 24-Hour XXX Shop Pervy Pete's Peepshow 'Pleasure Island' Adult Novelties The first five are CS$ stages 1 through 3, and the last one is CS$$ stage 1. Lot sizes are mainly 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, and 2x1, with jobs ranging from 10 to 26. All buildings are growables with custom nightlights as well. The only dependency is the sound effect .dat file available in the first volume of this series, so if you haven't downloaded that one, you'll need at least that file. Just like the previous packs, these buildings and lots are NIMBY, and are modded with modest negative effects - if you have issues with that, or with their content, then don't download them. See the "readme" file for more details on these NIMBY effects, ploppability, and some extra tidbits regarding my uploads in general. So, whether you're searching for that elusive all-girl Jello wrestling video starring Peaches Purehardt, shopping for gag gifts for your buddy's bachelor party, or looking to spice up your next anniversary with something edible or battery-powered (or both), then download these and stop on by. Just ignore the shady fellow in the raincoat who's been browsing at the back of the store for the last three hours...and don't believe him when he tells you that he buys that monthly issue of Hungarian Honeys for the articles. Enjoy!

Go, baby, go! Oh, yeah, shake what your momma gave you! If catcalls, lapdances, and tassled pasties are your thing, then this second set of NIMBY buildings is for you. Here are six different strip clubs with a total of thirteen lots, guaranteed to put a smile on your face and empty your wallet. From go-go dives and girly bars to more upscale gentlemen's clubs, with blondes, brunettes, redheads - this set has them all! Featured in this download are the following establishments... Artie's Jiggle Joint Blue Moon Go-Go Bar Foxy's Nude Follies 'The Seventh Veil' Strip Club 'Dudez' All-Male Revue 'Mount Olympus' Gentlemen's Club The first three are stages 2 and 3 CS$, while the remaining three are stage 1 CS$$. The lots are mainly 1x2, 1x3, and 2x1, with jobs ranging from 28 to 42. All of these buildings are growable, and all are tricked out with nightlights, too. The only dependencies are a couple of custom velvet rope lines and the query sound effect, which are included in the .dat files with this upload. Like the first pack, these are NIMBY, and are modded with slightly negative effects - if you have any problems with that, or with the content of these buildings, then don't download them. See the "readme" file for more details on the NIMBY effects, ploppability, and some extra tidbits regarding my uploads in general. So grab a stack of singles, call your drinking buddies, and head on down. Who cares if the wife makes you sleep on the couch afterwards when you get home? That private dance with Jasmine was worth it...not to mention the one with Tiffany...and the one with Crystal... Stay tuned for yet more upcoming NIMBY businesses - in the meantime, enjoy!

Do you want to catch the midnight showing of Sally's SimCity Sins? Or maybe you would prefer to see Naughty Nurses, or Bad Boys of Brazil? Well, since the local video store probably doesn't carry Milkmaid Frolics, then this NIMBY set (the first of an ongoing series) is the cure. Here are four different theatres showing those adult-oriented titles you won't find at the local multiplex. Featured in this download are the following establishments... The Eros Theatre The Lyric Theatre The Rexxx Theatre The Viceroy Theatre All four are CS$ growables on 1x2 lots in stages 3, 4, and 5. Jobs range from 24 to 30, with stats and modding similar to previous uploads. All have custom nightlights (really, who would go to see these kinds of movies during the day, anyways?) and the only dependency required is the .dat sound file included with this upload. Because these are NIMBY, they are modded with some slightly detrimental effects - if you have any problems with that, or with the content of this upload, then don't download them. See the "readme" file for more details, as well as some extra tidbits regarding my uploads. So grab your raincoat and stop on by. Just don't sit in the same row as anyone else...and use the restroom at home beforehand...
  7. I'm not a modder by any stretch, but I have tweaked a few lots for my own purposes from time to time. Found it necessary once I discovered many old bus stops consuming more electricity than most houses and offering 100 jobs in a 1x1 bus stop. And occasional other "nice things" that had unbalanced stats (usually not the creators' faults, I understand... nonetheless I'm left with the choice to either fix or discard them). Anyway, I've been looking for some way to finely control/influence where the rich build. Using taxes to keep them only in certain tiles... isn't granular enough. Denying water also prevents lower-wealth stage 4 and up; also no good. I suppose I could put other nasty NIMBY things, but... I'm trying at the same time to not to be a bastard to the less fortunate in my city. Then yesterday, it struck me, as I was driving through a particularly wealthy neighborhood, and I noticed the conspicuous lack of bus stops... "duh, rich people don't ride buses." Even in the rare case they do use mass transit... buses are pretty much out of the question, usually. So I'm thinking I want to use them to granularly control where in a city I want my rich people. I usually sprinkle my cities with bus stops anyway. And the people use them, some to get to work, others to get to other mass transit networks. Unfortunately the rich of course also build near them... but never use them. So... if I could tweak my bus stops to deliberately fend them off, then I can simply not put any bus stops where I want the rich neighborhoods to be. But I'm not sure which exemplar to fiddle with. My guess is, I must add the "Desirability Effect Values" exemplar. "Radius in cells, Max effect, min effect for each developer." But I'm not sure how really to add the values. How to use the tool, yes, but how many, or which ones I want to be non-zero to achieve my desired (or undesired, I suppose) effect. I don't want a bus stop that already does this, as I want to be able to use and tweak my own now and in the future (though if there IS one on STEX already... I'd love to see it as a reference, I suppose). Any help, please oh please? Or is this even possible in the first place?

This is a collection of "those" types of businesses. generally adult orientated, and not completely desireable in your cities. They are offered to add some gritty realism to your cities. NO EXPLICIT CONTENT IS INCLUDED These lots are offered to those looking for them. If you are not interested in these growing in your cities, then simply don't download them. There are, well, I forget how many lots and buildings included. This set has evolved over time, and I added a few here, and a few there. The smaller lots tend to grow in abundance in younger cities, before the education levels rise. They cause a negative park effect, and lower your mayor rating. If too many of them grow in close proximity, you will most likely see riots form... The good old bulldozer can remedy this. Or lots of police intervention. Some of the businesses included are : • Blonde Bombshells • The Queer Steer • Deviant Desires • Steves Adult Books • Al's Gun Shop • Goobers GoGo Club • Tattoo Parlor • Trixie's VI All of the lots are growables. Some are also made as plops, which can be found in the landmarks menu.
