About this City Journal
What began in the early 19th Century as a small trading outpost and naval fort on the edge of the Pacific has grown into one of the most diverse and thriving metropolises in the Western Hemisphere. While it takes its name from this oldest settlement, the city of Tyrell is in actuality the amalgamation of several different smaller towns that grew together into unique neighborhoods of one interconnected urban sprawl. In addition, successive waves of immigration have filled in the gaps of the expanding city cores, creating a kaleidoscope of distinct architecture and culture. One can find buildings left over from the first great construction boom of the 1880s interspersed with gleaming 21st century skyscrapers, with styles borrowed from as far afield as South Asia and Central Europe.
-------------------------------------------------
This project originally began as a terraforming exercise: I had never used the sea level cheat to carve a custom coastline and wanted to learn how. In the process I discovered the numerous coastal development lots that folks had created over the years, and before I knew it I had built an entire port and marina. Once I had that, it only made sense that there should be a city as well. From there, it became an exercise in detail work. Before this, I had only ever grown cities, and actually made a point of plopping as little as possible. Here, I wanted to go in the opposite direction, and finally get a chance to show off the numerous BATs that I've collected over the years but which never seemed to want to grow on their own. I still wanted something that would function beyond mere eye candy though, and as such I've tried to walk a line between growified plopping and organic zoning. Still, between the extensive lotplops and MMP work, I've done a lot of clicking over the last few months...
This is my first City Journal, and I hope you enjoy it. Welcome to Tyrell.
