Today I've reached a personal milestone that I had! I played SimCity Classic! Now I only need to play both 3000 & Societies so I can say that I played them all. And I promise you that someday I will do it.
I'm sharing a screenshot

Very cool!
I like the idea of your "SimCity Challenge" for playing all games in the series at least once. I've only played SC4 (and SC3000 briefly) myself, but someday I can imagine it'd be fun to give the others a try as well.
If you're looking for SC3000 sometime, a recommended retailer is GOG which has the game as a digital download purchase. Sometimes GOG runs 75% off sales which are an ideal time to get the best deal. Then it's worth using the offline installer to install the game standalone, so then it doesn't need the GOG Galaxy client (which is like a games manager and totally optional).
(Some admin posted a video about that here.)
The good news is games from GOG are DRM free, which saves all the other hassle with CDs and working around SafeDisc, etc.

Hi @Cyclone Boom. Yes, it's like the "The evolution of..." Youtube videos but better, because you're the one playing and having fun.
SimCity Classic it's so hard for me, just the opposite of what I thought minutes before playing it for the first time. The first thing that I've noticed when I started playing was that the game started in the 1400s and there was some help text displayed on the screen... but it was literally written in 1400s English. I'm not joking. I couldn't find the power plant so I got mad and purchased the castle that you can see on the screenshot. I wasted like the 90% of my budget in that and I didn't play again. But I don't regret trying it, it's a part of videogames history so it's cool even if it's not that good compared with nowadays games. Fun fact: I don't know if you noticed, but the famous RCI was actually called CRI on this game. They changed it in 2000 and it lasted since then.
SimCity 2000 it's way better. Unlike it's predecessor, it's still playable on a regular basis nowadays. It's basic but unlike in Classic you can actually draw zoning instead of putting square tiles and you can select between 2 grades of density. It has got some inconsistences but it's fully understandable. The music and sound effects are actually superb. My favourites are the song that appears when the year ends and you check the budget and the sound effect of the electricity.
About SC3000: It's great to know where to buy it, so thank you. I will wait for Christmas so I have something to write down in my Three Kings letter.
My favourite is SC4 and my least favourite is SimCity 2013. I have to play the hated Societies to see if I change my opinion about SC2013, but I think it's not gonna work.

That's interesting @Cortana, and I didn't know that how RCI used to be called CRI previously. (Cool fact!)
The good thing is from trying the older games, it provides a broader perspective of the SimCity series as a whole. In this way, I imagine it gives you even more appreciation for the latter games. When I tried SC3000 years ago, I picked it up from a games store after already playing SC4 for years. Immediately I found it hard to get into, because I had an expectation it'd be similar to SC4, when it was quite different from the strategy side (and I lacked the patience back then to figure it out). I think I might've appreciated SC3000 more had I got into it upon release, and played the games in order. I do hope you enjoy it anyway, and it helps to see the positives and appreciate each in their own right.
SimCity Classic must've been revolutionary when released, and it laid foundations for what developed. It'll be interesting to see whether you find SC3000 more enjoyable than SC2000 was. I've not tried Societies or SimCity 2013 personally, as I was put off from what was said about those games. I think Societies is similar to The Sims series in some ways, but not too sure. It certainly isn't SimCity as we know it anyway.
The music side I agree is an integral part of what makes video games more memorable. There's a topic here with a collection of the tracks from the various games. The cool part is the music can fit well shared between any of the SimCity games.
I suppose one way is to see each game in the series as a stepping stone, although some stones are larger and more precious than others. If you'd like, you're more welcome to post in the forums or a CJ to document any of your experiences.
