  1. Quote of the Day

These might have been said but I'm not reading 42 pages of comments to find out lol. Some of my favorites and some good ole classics from a man who had many famous quotes. -- Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened -- In the course of my life I have often had to eat my words, and I must confess that I have always found it a wholesome diet -- Never hold discussions with the monkey when the organ grinder is in the room -- If you're going through hell, keep going.................. or my version "If you're going threw/through hell, Don't stop, keep going!" -- Success is not final, Failure is not fatal, It's the courage to continue that counts! -- You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. -- It’s not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what’s required -- A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. -- If we open a quarrel between the past and the present we shall find that we have lost the future -- To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. -- An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile—hoping it will eat him last -- History will be kind to me for I intend to write it. -- We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. -- To build may have to be the slow and laborious task of years. To destroy can be the thoughtless act of a single day -- A gentleman does not have a ham sandwich without mustard -- When youth departs, may wisdom be enough! Quote from the movie "The Darkest Hour" -- Churchill was in the lavatory in the House of Commons and his secretary knocked on the door and said: Excuse me Prime Minister, but the Lord Privy Seal wishes to speak to you. After a pause Churchill replied: "Tell the Lord Privy Seal that I am sealed in the privy and I can only deal with one shit at a time" .............Oh man! I cracked up so hard when he said that. 'Winston Churchill'
  2. Glenni's BAT Viking Homestead

Wow, I'm so amazed at the effort and detail you guys put into these. Need more buildings and the houses like this. Thanks
  3. La Previsora Building

    Nicely done for your first!
  4. One Polar Tower

Well I can't speak for others and what the community has come to "expect", (whatever that means, considering you guys are taking your free time to do this and then share with us) I for one can think of a couple places where this would fit right in. If a building or lot doesn't conform to your idea of what a building should look like then move on, we don't need to hear about it. Lots to choose from. Thanks friend for your time and effort and I will be watching your future work. I myself plan on batting/lotting this year, I just hope my first few look this good. But with a little practice and experience with the tools things will only get better.
  5. Show us What you're Working On

Higher farm/country walls, exactly what I was looking for. Very nice work and good amount of pieces to do anything.
  6. More Rural Development!

Very, very nice man. That's the kind of MMP work that inspired my CJ. Very realistic.
  7. Next is my farm area which is almost complete. I just have plans for one more major farm that has hi-tech farming techniques like the agricultural farms that stack 4 modules high, some sub ground agricultural farms and hi-tech hydroponic green houses. Included in my farming area is Peg chicken ranch with add on. For my map it is the chicken family and fun farm where kids go to pet thhe horses and sheep and chase some baby chicks. I also made a regional livestock supply and dairy farm, a horse riding/vet ranch and my Nexis Grain Lmt wheat and flour farm with the rail grain silo and fukitol flour ,mill being part of the company. They have a separate wheat field as grain suppliers and another flour wheat field as the regional flour suppliers, they also branched out and invested in some hi-tech green houses to sell hydroponically grown vegetables. I also included some close up views of my PEG irrigation canals all dressed up with extra props of course. So, that's it for now. Comments and questions if you like and I will be updating as I go and create more sections. And as I said in the Prelude I will be posting short videos of each section as well with better explanations and names of prop/lot owners for those interested in using some of these mods.
  8. When it came to the rail yard I was all set with 2 different modular sets to try out but then I came across this large all in one rail yard. I'm looking at it thinking everything i want is here, I couldn't have put the modular together any better than myself and it even included a little engine depot at one end and offices at the other. So I opted to use the large rail yard and save myself some time. I completed the area with Simmer2's large rail roundhouse (14x14), what an awesome lot. it comes with a smaller 8x14 version but this thing is spectacular and deserves the showcase so I used large version. I also used NBVC's oil loading depots, another really cool lot in my opinion to add authenticity and Simmer2"s side rail lot under the main large lot, as well as a couple of freight loading stations in between. I got high mast lighting around the area and just have to fill in the gaps now. I will return with some better close up pictures of large rail yard.
  9. A Little Trivia Fun

Just a little trivia fun for anyone who wants to participate or throw in their guess. It is a play on words sort of thing and the question is..... "How does the name of my city, which is 'Knows_Owning' relate to my city theme which is a designer city that I am only using mods on. The whole map will be covered with all mods, lots and bats I have downloaded. I will not use the Res, Comm or Ind tiles to zone any areas." I posed this question in my CJ but it got buried in my prelude at bottom. It is pretty easy to figure, If no one guess in a day I will be back with a clue.
  10. A Little Trivia Fun

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner lol, on the first guess, I said it was easy. So yeah Knows_Owning translates into No_Zoning which is my basic theme of my CJ. CJ is here > Knows_Owning < if anyone wants to peak. Again it's going to be a complete plop city with many lots and bats and much MMP work. I used the plop all lots cheat and it covered a large tile then stopped so I think I have more than enough, and in every area. I've got 4.5GB installed and a good mixture of Res, Comm and all industry. I've already got a pretty good start.
  11. Entry 5 - Railyard and Roundhouse

Wow, this looks so wicked now. Very nice textures and look exactly the ones in my area. Thanks for your help again.
  12. Entry 5 - Railyard and Roundhouse

ok after getting very confused I realized I had VDK packs 3 and 4 and was trying to use 4 only to find out it was for rail cars and pack 3 is engine textures. I misread and thought you were talking about oil cars. Anyway I finally figured it out and even managed to isolate some familiar CP locos from my area. Can I mix and match those files some how for different engines instead all the same?
  13. Hey guys. i'm having a problem with some immortal garbage piles. I have tried everything from painting over with other props to covering with lot then bulldozing but nothing works. The immortal lot killer mod works great for other immortal lots I've run into but not the garbage. The garbage seems to be leftover from previous plops that I've bulldozed and moved or whatever, but the garbage gets left behind. I though I had heard or seen a solution to this before somewhere but I can't find it now. Any help please! Thank You!
  14. Immortal Garbage Piles

Yeah both excellent and I do have for future use. Just haven't built the area yet but I also have PEG's garbage chute that chucks it over the edge. That's hilarious, I had to download it.
  15. Entry 6 - Farms and Ranches

I found this lot after I built this area already and really wanted to put it in but already had one and didn't want to rework the area, But I really like yours and it is in my folder for next grain farm
  16. Entry 5 - Railyard and Roundhouse

OOOH very nice and yeah I'm getting the modders mixed up already (changed to NBVC, TY). you guys all do fantastic jobs and if you know who created something in my posts, feel free to give a shout out. I just have downloaded so many mods I get mixed up. Thanks again Ah that's what liveries are. I haven't searched into the rail car textures yet but would really be interested in some Canadian pacific railway or CN railway cars textures. I have seen a few pop up in my seaport area and they look really good and just like the ones around my town. But for oil cars those Esso and BP cars look great as with the rest so definitely going to get that.
  17. Entry 5 - Railyard and Roundhouse

WOW, Big difference after, it all now blends nicely as you see. TY so much for pointing out the mod because even though I had it, but not installed, I'm still unsure what some of these texture mods do and what they effect, so TY for this one.
  18. Entry 6 - Farms and Ranches

TY and yeah lol, I keep thinking that too. "Is that too much....hmmmmm....nah it looks ok" lol. But I think I'll go easier on the cows.
  19. Entry 5 - Railyard and Roundhouse

TY very much and that's an excellent idea for the rail yard. I think I have that plugin in my not installed folder, I'll pop it in today and see what it does.
  20. Show us how you manage your plugin folder

PLUGIN FOLDER FOR THE MOD HOGS First I'll show you uncompressed folder setup then show you my dat packed. This is with 4.5GB of plugins. I don't know if this will work for everyone but I have never had a problem packed or not with as much as 5GB installed at once. Above is my plugin folder in the main SC4 directory with a show of the game stats mods folder and to the far right is the documents plugin main folder. Below is the first loaded folder which is my CAM folder in which I stuck my CAMelots mods and Industrial revolution Mod because of where I want them to load. Next is my MODS folder with all PEG mods and various other mods. I opened up the PEG folder and a few sub folders to show you how I stupidly set things up when I first started. I had no idea I was going to end up with this many mods but I hate too many sub-directories so I combine files from same person or sets and delete all jpeg and .txt files I find. You can get a good idea of my folder sizes but looking at the side scroll bars that you can see and how much space is left to scroll. Next is my BATS folder where all other lots props are. I opened up a few folders again to show you some sub-directory setups that I made. The next 2 folders need no explanation or pics they are the NAM and NAM Dependency folders. After that my Dependencies folder loads and looks like this. I also opened my BSC and PEG sub directories. And next to load is my patches folder and then finally my overwrites folder where I keep things that I change often or try or need to load last. I do not DAT pack either of these folders because they are small and I change/add stuff regularly. Last but not least, this is my DAT packed folder version for loading and I don't care what anyone says about not dat packing this or that. EVERYTHING can be dat packed if you want and will work normal just as long as your load order is correct. I use these dat packed files every day. Hopefully this may help someone. Have fun!
  21. Well I can and if there isn't one yet then maybe I will work on one. In meantime I have next best thing, my setup lol. I don't know but it works well for me. Folder #1 - First I have my disks copied to disk images cause it takes 10x less time to install from images. Folder #2 - Updates your game to 1.1.638 Folder #3 - Updates your game to 1.1.640 (SC4 BAT Update4) Folder #4 - Next I install SC4 Dat packer and (SC4 Loader*** GET THIS ONE ***) Folder #5 - The next 3 are optional, I install because I plan on batting/modding. But next would be Gmax3D Folder #6 - Then I install SC4BATInstaller Folder #7 - Next install Lot Editor Folder #8 - Then my STEX collection or your favorite mods. I say get the SC4 Loader because of the many options to save you time. Look at pictures. First Pic - Resolution, color bit depth, hardware mode and window mode Second Pic - That pesky -cpucount:1 is easy now, just choose one core or 2, computer priority and the force draw on scroll Third Pic - Autosave game and skip intro Fourth Pic - This makes life a llot easier when dealing with bugs and mod glitches, just tick /untick boxes to choose to load mod or not. Fifth Pic - Redirect your file paths and make sure game is loading from proper hard-drive/folder. The way you load your mods can matter too but I have run into this and now copy my region files (which are your save city files) every day to another folder. i lost half my map before, everything on bottom half would not render, just blank lots, I had to rebuild it all, lucky there wasn't too much on bottom half except my seaport area. Hard lesson to learn but yeah with so many crashes and glitches due to mods or just to much to render makes me backup all the time now. or and I think it was caused because I saved the game and exited before the whole map had rendered in wide view. Maybe? not sure.
  22. Prelude

THANK YOU MODDERS!!! So as I've stated I will only be using mod sets, Lots and Bats from some of the amazing creators in this community. A city to showcase your work. I'm sorry if I don't include your name or mention your mod. I do not know all the mods yet. I am from Northern Ontario Canada so have sought out a lot of Canadian/US style mods. I cant wait to use bats such as burger king and mcdonalds, vw, ford, audi and a bunch of other car lots, homehardware, safeway, bestbuy, kmart, walmart, etc etc......It's gonna look like my home town a little except for the downtown section which is going to have some pretty cool skyscrapers I have to use. So far I've used BSC trails and Peg ponds & streams for my trails/pond area. Pegs Container Seaport, Rail warehouse and reg warehouse CDK's for my Industrial Seaport area. Varioous Nexis Lots and props to create my favorite area so far, the logging/milling section. I have an extensive farm system using various peoples lots and props. I laid out my whole canal system using Pegs variable width canals and finished a little Marina area using Pegs and Paengs lots and props. I've laid down the main pieces for my railyard area using Simmer2's lots and props.and a rural commercial and industrial area using various lots and props from modders like the BSC group, FrankU, Joerg, Heblem, KOSC, Simgoober, B62, nos.17 and many others.. Many thanks go out to all of you who built these amazing lots. So to start I've uploaded some starting pictures of areas mentioned above and I will be posting video links of each section soon so if anyone wants a more detailed explanation of my work and the props I used, it will be included in videos. PS - Don't forget the trivia. How does the name of my town "Knows_Owning" relate to the theme. Leave a comment and explanation if you think you know.
  23. Immortal Garbage Piles

OMG, I can't believe I didn't think of this. I am creating a designer city using only mods and I haven't made an area like that yet so, no. lol. The game is constantly on pause except when testing out trees and other timed props but does progress somewhat in other areas still. I'm slapping myself right now lol. Nope, just my stupidity lol. I will put landfill in corner for now lol.
  24. After finishing the basic layout of my canals I had come across some really cool mods from Paeng I believe, that included the Abtel rowing club, some punters docks and various boat props, I wanted to make up that little section. first thing I did was add the racing/practice lane in for the skulls competions. After seeing they had included racing posts in the mod, I had to, and it turned out to be quite a nice little area with the PEG CDKM marina pieces on the backside. If you run roads along side your canal, the lights kinda double up from the road and canal combined making it brighter a little and it really stands out with my night color mods and blue streets.
  25. Next I really wanted to try out some of the CDK's so I skipped over to my coastal section and created this large area. Again a little bigger than I had imagined but i really like it and the way the rails fit in-between.All Pegasus lots here. Container seaport kit, rail warehouse kit, reg warehouses, pier kit and the beginning of my variable width canals with 2 locks.
