  1. Plantation Bay

    One of my favorite maps!
  2. MP Rowhouse Pack 1

MPRow04 & MPRow05 grow rapidly in my cities, but they do not have dialogue boxes when I click on the buildings, so I cannot check stats/make historical. Does anyone else have this issue?
  3. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Are there any modular residential/commercial alley mods? I know that this mod by Pegasus exists, but it's not what I'm looking for for several reasons: The alley is a preset length, which doesn't fit well in my cities The alley functions as a street, which is problematic because traffic likes to drive in the alleys instead of the street What I have in my mind is a modular alley set that kind of functions like the roads from JBSimio's University of Clayhurst mod: A series of eye-candy alley lots that have various props (garbage cans, parked cars, etc.) that can be placed mid-block between buildings. Do any mods of this nature exist?
  4. Maxis Tree HD Replacement Mod

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but do we still need to download the Girafe palm trees if we plan to use the palm tree replacement mod? I am trying to keep my plugins folder as lean as possible, and was wondering if they were necessary since they presumably wouldn't be used in-game anyways. Does the mod's code expect a palm tree mod to be present in order for it to be changed to the cypress trees?
  5. BAT Request Thread

I would like to request the following building: Thalia Hall Description Thalia Hall is a historic theater in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, USA. Built in 1892, this building was an anchor of Pilsen's Czech community, with a tavern on the ground floor and an inn above, with an opera house on the top floor. Today, Thalia Hall is one of Chicago's most popular indie music venues, with the Michelin-starred restaurant Dusek's on the ground floor accompanied by several other retail stores and apartments. Google Street View link Why you should create this building: It could add another high wealth commercial service option to cities (or landmark) It could be a dense, historic corner W2W building that would look great both in downtown areas and in urban neighborhoods (like where it is located in real life) I feel that, while Chicago's grand downtown architecture is well-represented in the SC4 BATing community, a lot of Chicago's inner-city architecture is much more difficult to find on the STEX. Personally, my favorite part of building grand cities is not the downtown office area, but rather the inner-city neighborhoods of W2W buildings and apartment buildings where many city residents live. A nightlife venue/gastronomical destination like Thalia Hall would be a great addition to the cities of SC4's dedicated players.
  6. @11241036 Regarding your edit, removing everything out of the plugins folder is a really great idea. I'm sure that will help me out in the future!
  7. Haha, I just looked back at my open Lot Editor program after posting this and saw that it was working. I guess it just takes some time to load! I do have a lot of stuff in my plugins folder, so it makes sense. I'll leave this up in case anyone else is impatient like me and has this problem in the future. Thanks for responding @11241036!
  8. Hi all, I am new to modding for SC4 and am trying to learn the basics, but I am unable to get Lot Editor to work properly on my computer. Can you help? I am on a Windows 10 OS using the Steam version of SC4. I installed the Lot Editor installer from Simtropolis to the following location: But when I launch LotEditor.exe I received the screen depicted in the uploaded image, at which point the app froze and showed as "Not Responding" in my Task Manager. Why is the program not running for me? Is there anything I need to do differently to get it to work?
  9. @mattb325 Thank you for answering my questions - this helps a lot!
  10. Hi, I am brand new to BATing and am very interested in creating my own buildings. I have followed Jasoncw's Getting Started Guide and have a couple of questions: 1. So, can I BAT in either gmax/BAT or in 3dsMax? As in, I have to use one program or the other? I've been looking up tutorial guides so that I can try making a basic building to learn the program, but I'm still confused at the difference between these two programs. If I find a BAT guide that is using gmax/BAT, do I have to use the gmax version or can I follow it in 3dsMax? 2. In the Getting Started Guide, I have a question on Step 11: This step tells us to run the BAT script in 3dsMax. We only need to do this one time, correct? From now on, when I open the program it will automatically have this script installed? I'm not sure how I'm supposed to verify if it is installed in 3dsMax or not. 3. I am using 3dsMax 2015 and am trying to do Step 15, but I am not seeing the same dialogue box that Jasoncw is using when he goes to Render Setup icon > Renderer tab. Jasoncw's box looks like this: However, when I go to the same box, mine looks like this: Am I missing something? I'm not seeing anything here about setting up my rendering settings. Thanks in advance for your help!
  11. @CorinaMarie and @jeffryfisher - Thanks for the tips! I'm pretty busy this weekend, but I'll try some of these fixes out later and report back. The Less Abandonment mod sounds really useful - I hate seeing so many of the luxury high rises in my city being abandoned. I'm pretty sure I have NAM installed already - I use it mostly for cosmetic purposes (e.g. making my roads have a turning lane, etc.), but I didn't know that it controlled traffic too. Does this happen automatically with the mod, or do you have to enable it somehow? Transit seems to be fairly utilized, with an average of 20-30% usage of bus stops and maybe 3% usage of el/subway stations. I've also been working on updating my streets to roads/avenues, as maybe the heavily-used side streets that haven't been upgraded yet are having an impact on some apartment buildings. I've also been zoning as much industrial and commercial as possible to ensure that there are enough jobs for everyone. I will report back later.
  12. I have a city that has about 150K people in it, and is starting to be zoned for medium and high density buildings. My city is in a mostly grid-like pattern with zones well-mixed so nothing's too far away. I have a bus station every other block or so on main streets (5x8 squares large, lined with commercial and industrial), with about 3 blocks of residential in between each main street - no Sim in my city should be more than two blocks away from a bus stop. I also have a subway and El system throughout my city, in addition to a beltway and other highways for busier areas. Despite all my efforts to mix up these zones and make my city easy to live in and commute around, my medium and high density residential buildings are being abandoned en masse due to "long commute". It has nothing to do with desirability, which is all they way up on the RCI chart. In fact, my city is still building apartment buildings, which are often abandoned as soon as construction is finished. As you can imagine, this is incredibly frustrating, as no city looks good with tower after tower of abandoned residential all over the place. I searched the forums before posting this for answers, but most of the solutions given were things that, to my knowledge, I am actively doing. For example, take a look at the screenshots below of two different parts of my city: SOUTH SIDE NORTH SIDE SOUTH SIDE DETAIL As you can see, there are lots of abandoned apartments popping up. In some cases, the apartments being abandoned are right beside a bus stop, El station, or right off a main street. Now, here are pictures of the RCI of these areas (sorry for low-quality pics): SOUTH SIDE RCI NORTH SIDE RCI I feel like these zones should be sufficiently mixed up; yet apartment buildings keep being abandoned. Any tips on what I can do to stop this from happening, and to get people to move back into these apartments? It's really sucking a lot of joy out of the game for me. Thanks for your help, and let me know if you have any questions!
  13. Thanks for providing such a thorough and detailed answer! I followed your directions step by step - However, I do not have an Install folder under SimCity 4 (maybe that's only included with the disk version?). So this is what I did: I took both the default London region file and my edited London file and pasted both in my computer's Documents folder outside of the SimCity 4 file. Then I simply pasted the folder I wanted to play back in the Regions folder. Then I started my game and my cities are back! I appreciate your help with this. I'm so glad I don't have to start my region from scratch!
  14. Hi all, I recently started playing SimCity 4 again after a long hiatus. I started playing in the default London map, which has two default cities named Kensington and Fulham in it. In this region, I played in both of these cities, started my own third city, and created a fourth but did not build anything in it except for a road. I played in this region for 4-5 days and had no issues at all. Today I loaded the game and everything I built in the region was gone - it looked like I had never built anything in it. Kensington and Fulham were reset to their default builds, and the two cities I had built were gone and replaced with the original "New City" tiles. I looked in the London region folder and saw the files for the cities that I had built, but they were not showing up in the game. I made a copy of the main city I had been building in and put it in a different folder, then pasted it back in the London region folder and started the game again. Still nothing showed up. I then checked the folder again and noticed that my city's file had been removed from the folder, although it was still in the backup folder. I tried this several more times and saw the same result. The other city I had created was not showing up at all after I cut/paste the other city in the folder and restarted the game, and was presumably deleted from the system completely despite my not having deleted the file. Why would my region reset like this? Is my city file salvageable? I noticed that each New City tile in the region folder had a number - I was wondering if I could figure out which number corresponded with which tile if I could just delete that tile and put my city in the folder and then have it work? Maybe it got duplicated somehow and the game is reading the New City file over my city's save file. Also I'd like to know how I can avoid this issue in the future - I was fortunate in that I hadn't built up my region too much and had mostly worked in 2 or 3 tiles, but I don't want my regions in the future to randomly reset like this either. I am running the game on Windows 10, using the digital Steam version of the game, and not using any sort of launcher. I have a few building mods and NAM installed, but I never had an issue like this in the past when I played the game and had the same mods installed. Thanks in advance for your help!
  15. Plug-in Manager - Help

I have a question that I'd appreciate if anyone could help me with. I've recently installed the Lot Editor/Plugin Manager and have 1) edited a few lots of buildings I've installed in my game in Lot editor and 2) used props I've installed to create my own custom commercial lot, using the block for the small patch of grass. When I tested it in-game, the buildings I edited on Lot Editor were not edited in-game, and the commercial lot I designed showed up as a park (which I expected to happen, since I used a park block to build it). So I went to Lot editor to try to fix them. Only one of the lots that I edited showed up in the Descriptors area. The other ones are in the Lots area, but I cannot figure out how to edit those. Is there a way to move them from Lots to Descriptors so I can used their modified form in the game?
