Hong Kong - Mosaics
Hong Kong is known across the world for its world-famous skyline. There's no better way to showcase this city's incredible buildings than through the use of mosaics - so you'll be seeing quite a few of them today
We'll begin our trip with a visit to the legendary Peninsula Hotel. The oldest hotel in Hong Kong was completed back in 1928, and despite a number of renovations over the years, it still retains its famous charm and elegance.
Since it's construction in 1988, the Lippo Centre (formerly Bond Centre) has become well known as one of the city's most distinctive and unique structures.
The Bank of China Tower is one of Hong Kong's and Asia's most iconic skyscrapers. Upon it's opening in 1990, it was the first 1,000 foot tall building outside the United States.
One of Hong Kong's most glamorous malls, the Pacific Place complex was originally built from 1988-1991 and has been expanded a number of times since.
The 1990's were a period of great growth for Hong Kong's skyline, and the 1,227 foot tall Central Plaza continued the trend. Upon it's opening in 1992, it was Asia's tallest building for a number of years.
The 7,087 foot long Tsing Ma Bridge was the world's second longest suspension bridge upon it's completion in 1997, and has served as a vital link to the island ever since.
Built in 1998 and standing 1,135 feet tall, The Center is another landmark skyscraper on the Hong Kong skyline - and until recently was the world's most expensive office building.
An overview of The Center and central Hong Kong on a rainy day.
Constructed from 2000 to 2003, the International Finance Centre complex quickly became a world-class financial center upon its completion. The 1,362 foot tall 2IFC is a centerpiece of the Hong Kong skyline. Also visible in the lower right is the iconic 586 foot tall Jardine House, which was the city's tallest building for much of the 1970s.
Our last landmark today is the city's tallest - the 1,548 foot tall International Commerce Centre, which opened in 2010. Day or night, it's truly spectacular.
Finally, an overview of my current progress on Hong Kong Island - showcasing many of the city's most impressive buildings.
