I see the STEX is coming back on line.  I like the new layout.

I was able to access Chat, so I think things are progressing well.

May I request an option to revert back to the old rectangular avatars? I prefer that since the circular style cuts details.

Same here. Not a fan of the circle.

Ouch!  You've hurt my antlers.  I agree that we should go back to the square format.

Might just giving my view on these update:

- User Interface Design: Pretty interesting so far, following the recent 'flat design' on the user interface I'd say neutral on this but though I would say its nice.. :)

- Circle avatar: Might just follow 3 posts above me, as I'm not a big fan of circle but I might just give it a try for a little bit.

- Chat: So far its going well though there are several bugs to fix.

- STEX: hmm it seems that the new design don't have the main image to shown instead it gives all screenshot on the top. Its kinda interesting I think but I would say the main image feature should be keep instead. Also it seems that www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm link toward file no longer working or maybe still?

- Image Gallery: This new section pretty innovation I think, hopefully it will be possible to connect with the upgraded CJ section in future when it back.

- Profile setting: Kinda nice I think, with new follower thing it may be better than friend system.

In overall, This update looking good though some improvement can be made, Great Job and Thanks dirk and all of the people behind the update of this site. :)

Ah, small detail I noticed: the site looks beautiful on HiDPI-screens ("retina"), but the Simtropolis-logo is low-res and looks fuzzy.

Agreed too... it's cute but I think it's unnecessary. :???:

Might just be me, but some quoted content in some threads seems to have vanished, or rather merged with the rest of the posts.

Despite my hating the flat tablet look I admit the forum is easier to use and navigate and a lot more things do make a lot more sense.:)

Looks great so far. Initially I had been a little disappointed about ST looking more & more like a social media site, but I have come to realize how much easier this site is to use because of it.

One question though: is there\will there be an option to add screenshots using a url when uploading a new file? Because I have them already online, I would prefer not to have to download them and the re-upload them again. Just feels a little too redundant to me.

Looking for a prop or texture? The SC4 Prop & Texture Catalog might help! View online here.

I know you all that are developing the site have been working the grind stone. You'll get no complaints from me, I'm just cannon fodder. I enjoy the site and the people maintaining it. Thanks for a job well done... complete? Never! Never give in! Do or do not! There is no try!

Patience is wise, circle avatars are not so wise   Hold the vote when its time.

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

I could not access my profile for some reason. Maybe take a look on that.

    ---

Also, on the new ST Galleries option, where could we find the "add an album" menu? It seemed that you mentioned it at the news, but I haven't seen it anywhere. :P

How did you mess up your profile page :P I'll look into it...

    To make an Album:

    1. Click Add images
    2. Select the Category
    3. Upload your images, click Continue
    4. After you fill out the details for each image, click Create an Album

I'm liking it from the moment it came online! Very good work! :) No complaints here.

Except: am I the only one noticing it (or the only one who actually used it)? Is the little "Up" arrow at the bottom of the page gone? Man: that was so useful! In fact sometimes, I used to scroll down instead of up, just to jump on the arrow and up again! You know: just because scrolling the mouse over and over...

    Nice layout, modern, like it.

I have one question: will formatting of older posts be like it should be? In the moment is like this:

    * Network Addon Modd, or the NAM. This mod was first conceived with the discovery of an unfinished road network Maxis left in the game. The talented modding community has taken this and turned it into entirely new road networks, gave us roundabouts, and allows us to create true metropolitan cities with roads to match. This can be found here on the STEX, or at SC4Devotion.
If you're interested, here is the "official" NAM Thread with links to the different parts used with NAM and some FAQ's. If any issues come up while using NAM, there is a support thread here. Various NAM Team members frequent the thread and gladly help out.

Edit: When I paste it here, it is ok. Here is pic:

yes the formatting should be fixed, I believe it's one if the background processes to re-parse the previous bbcode... Hopefully it should fix itself

Any idea on when the City Journals section will get done or in what order with the remaining sections (I know Omnibus is one of those)?

Also, circle or square, it doesn't really matter to me. My pic can fit either (both current design and soon-to-be-released design)

Waiting patiently for the CJ sec to come back online, otherwise for now, just gonna hold back on my updates :P Btw, I'm a bit confused with what's going on with the signatures. It was okay just yesterday, but now what's happened to Zelgadis has finally spread to my profile, and I mean that the signature's have become previews instead of hotlinks :O

Hey Dirk, just wanted to let you know that I appreciate all the work done on the site, and all the effort gone into making the experience better for us.

That being said, of course, there are a few issues of mine with the current design philosophy, none of which will probably hold much meaning given the changes have already occurred, but feedback is feedback, and I still think there's a lot of great stuff in the update, but a lot I'd rather not have as well. I'll update my thoughts as the changes roll out completely.

    Quick Question:

What happened to all the members I added as friends? Is there deny way to view the old list, sO I can follow them now. Also, what happened to awards?

All your friends are gone! Sorta. Previously, we had the Friends system. That has now been replaced by Followers. Your old Friends list is now gone, so you’ll have to re-friend your buddies. You do that by visiting their profile and Following them. You’ll get a notification whenever they post stuff.

I really dislike the idea of a social media site. I get that Simtropolis is a social gaming website (kinda sorta), but the whole notion of social media bothers me. I don't have twitter or Facebook, and use G+ for the sole purpose of backing up all my photos for free at 3 megapixel resolution.
I never really understood the use of the friends system anyways, given that I had like 6 friends and never actually saw others use it, but the whole notion of getting an update every time someone I know posts something is a bit much. I don't really need to have a little notice every time they comment or post something, or upload new files. I figured the friends deal was like a relationship kinda thing, where people you liked to "hang out" with would be easily accessible and would let others know the people that you valued on the site.

With followers it seems a lot less personal, and a little redundant. Couldn't I follow users before now (old ST)? What makes the new system different, and what constitutes "post stuff". I had jmsepe as a friend (despite philosophical differences), but seeing as he's an admin I'd rather not be alerted every time he makes a post as an admin. What is the level of depth here?

Would be great to have a preview post option instead of just submit reply. :)

I second this. I know you're looking into it, but previewing is an awesome feature that it seems the new backend would be suited for.

Also, Square avatars please? I'm not much a fan of Metro/Material design/Mac OS X Yosemite Flat style (that seems to be all the rage nowadays), but the site generally seems to do a good treatment of it (since it's probably here to stay). I do miss the floating menu bar. Having my notifications always at the top seemed like a plus. Is there a way to include this as an option, or are we stuck with having to always scroll back to the top to get to profile and account settings/updates/etc.?

I would appreciate less clutter on the home page, however. I like the new featured box, and the way the STEX items are laid out, but the news items below seem like such a large jumble that I would find on...I don't know really. Usually when sites look like the way the new News section is laid out, I don't use it for very long. The old style was linear, and caused much scrolling, but I appreciated the lack of clutter. Maybe an option to change the layout from using the whole screen with small blocks, to using larger blocks and only showing the news items one or two articles wide?

I noticed on the STEX the effort to remove troll raters, by making reviews accompany ratings. I noticed, however, that a ratings was required to leave a review. Maybe it could be made optional (not sure how feasible this is), since sometimes the easiest way to provide support for a mod is through the STEX comments, and forcing users either rate the work or navigate to a page may not be user friendly, especially since some uploaders (like myself) are not prodigious enough to really warrant their own thread just for tech support. It also seems like it would prevent responses to comments by the uploader since the required rating would be self-inflating, and detrimental to the rating's effectiveness.

Finally, I know some people appreciate the new layout on tablet, but I really enjoyed viewing the full glory of ST on my phone (never used the mobile version; always ducked out of it as fast as possible). Now the site scales everything up and I can't get a good overview of threads, or the forum topic section, or anything. Is there a way you know of that would let me trick the site into thinking I was using a larger screen? My phone's resolution is high enough (1080x1920), but I haven't had any success in any browser I've tried, and I always use desktop mode/wide viewport as well.
