Anyway, hey! Seems as though that I've just recently been invited by NYBT to join in and do a little New York BATing (which I've been meaning to do for some personal reasons -- namely ME:TMW episode ) Besides that, I've dabbled a bit in New York BATing as you've seen before, and now, I'm just going to be occasionally dropping by here to show you any progresses I make on any NY related BATs I make!

Hope you guys like it so far. Currently as you can see, Trump Tower will be high on my NYBT priority list, and will just be a simple, first release as a symbolic gesture.

Hey, quick update. Worked on it for a bit because...well, just because

 

The oddities in the bldg so far are kind of out the wazoo for boxy tower, but I guess I'll get to resolving them eventually.

 

> Although the reflection seem to be a bit crazy (IOR is set to fresnel, and reflectivity to 0.3)

> Maintenance areas on the lower floors were missed out, will be added soon

> For some reason, the black column pieces on the last few upper floors seem to have disappeared on the top left and center parts, even though the pieces are whole objects (will probably just replace them I guess?)

> Still finding a good midway for the reflections (for the window frames)

> The blinds seem to be disappearing to the left, because they're for some reason, slanted. Will fix.

> Need to make the floors more noticeable

> Other things. Will attend to. Don't know what they are, but I'll probably think of more things

 

 

If anyone has any good photos or links to rooftop images of the Trump World, please drops some of the links here or post them as well. Would be really helpful since I'm not really too familiar with searching stuff like this up. I have next to know prior knowledge of the area so any help would be great. And possibly some good images of the lobby's facade. I only have a pic of the front lobby facade, and nothing else

Looking good.  Just be sure to pay attention to which glass panels are transparent and which are opaque.  They form columns but the columns change part way up the building.  I think the glass has a bronze tint to it as well, rather than being plain black.

It's actually quite difficult determine the roof junk from Google Maps now that they only offer views in a Google Earth'd style view

Those are some of the pics I found that I've been working with too. It's quite scarce to find other side of the buildings though, particularly the backside which seems to have some sort of hidden component I'll need to add on later. Thanks for the pics though.

Thanks, I'll definitely have to scrutenize the columns a bit. I'm not sure if I have them right yet, but I have a feeling they're out of place somewhat somewhere. And I've made the bronze color more apparent. It was bronzed before, but it was so dark, that you couldn't even tell.

 

Hey again, quick update. I'm still flying blind with the rooftop. Is there any other way besides google maps or earth (which has really messy polys and textures that throw me off a bit ) to view the rooftop so I can get the details at least close to how it is in RL? Right now, I'm pretty much doing what I can from what I can identify, but I can barely figure out the other roof junk pieces. I did however, fix a couple of things I mentioned, as well as some stuff you guys have mentioned so, thought that was good

And before anyone asks if I can model in 3ds Max; no...no I can't (at least, not in great detail and expertise like most BATers around) This is still largely in sketchup. The pieces on the rooftop are just ground planes I paste overtop of the originals, so I don't have to constantly configure the tiling and coordinates of the textures (I did manage to make decent roof junk on the program though. Pretty proud of myself about that)

I've searched and searched but since there are no taller buildings than it in the area it's really hard to find good aerial pictures of the top. I did however found some pics of all the antennas on top... hope they help

Thanks for the pics. Those rooftop images really are hard to come by. Even searching aerial views of the UN didn't bring much up But these pics should help at least for the antennas. Just means that I have a little freedom to do the rooftop as I please (with help from low res images from Google Earth )

Rooftop's a little hit or miss, but I guess it's close 'nuff. Will add a few more things to the lower rooftop floor and the extra antennas, then I'll move on and craft the lobby. And after that, night time render then EXPORT!

Wow, that's some tasty roof junk! This shall do perfectly, especially if you add those antennas.

 

I also went looking for photos or references for the rooftop, but couldn't find anything really useful. However, while doing so I obviously browsed through a lot of pictures of the building, and I must say that you have captured it remarkably well. I'm admittedly not familiar with its smallest architectural details, but the overall impression is spot on. You look at it, and you immediately get that "That's it!" feeling - it is Trump World Plaza, unmistakeably. What a black monolith!

I just wonder if those reddish roof textures might look better with their saturation lowered somewhat... it's not a biggie, though, so if this is really not on your agenda, it's fine. At least for me.

The blurry reflection map looks very nice, it really emphasizes the imposing form of the building, it's a real breath of fresh air from the realistic rippled reflection look.
