During the past 3 days I've been working on a forested area in Farms, my agricultural map. After mapping out rail and roads it looked like this:

farms_ruralforest_full_stage1_zpsufmkz4g
Rail, roads and 3 small gravel road rail stops.

After 2 days of heavy work planting spruces, red cedar and broad leaf trees (and developing a shoulder version of carpal tunnel syndrome in the process), building a rail depot and water mill with stream, and last but certainly not least, cow and sheep paddocks, this is what the area looked like this morning:

farms_ruralforest_full_stage2_zpswxv09wv

Since then the houses and farms have grown. A small commercial shop opened in the area and a previously forgotten area with a single track rail and loading station was discovered to the west.

Looks nice!! With the highway, though, I think you should just keep it at 2 lanes in each direction instead of three. It's not a full-fledged freeway with those at-grade intersections, and it's rare that you see an expressway like that where you have more than 2 lanes. Usually rural Interstate highways have only two lanes in each direction; the only place where there are three lanes in each direction is where it connects two large cities together and there are many small to medium-sized towns along the length of the freeway; for example, most of I-5 between Seattle and Portland is 3 lanes in each direction, with only a fairly small stretch being only two lanes (and some of it has been widened in recent years).

That's something I've been thinking of. I'd also like to get rid of the roundabouts. They are mainly the work-around because I couldn't get proper intersections and/or FLUPs. I ran into so many issues (both technical and aesthetical) that I just decided to go with whatever had function and no graphical glitches.

Edit 7 hours later
Today I took the time to learn how to build what I think is a diamond interchange using FLUPs, MIS, filler pieces and stuff. It's 20x10 square large and it made me realize there's no way I can justify the removal of my roundabouts to fit 4 of these interchanges. Farms was mainly built in Vanilla, and to make the change the entire west side rail track has to be redrawn, stations have to be moved, the "main roads" through farmland be adjusted, not to mention demolishing parts of my Rural Forest.
I did remove 2 roundabouts on either side of the map (I had eight) and made use of 2-lane RHW instead of the previous 3-lane.

Maybe I should start a CJ for this?!

Do you folks know how helpful takemethere's post is? We now have a very useful list with related images. His list open in one window and the STEX in another.

Will the kingofsimcity parking ever end? ...hope not :ooh:

I thought about this, and am still thinking about it because though I've thought about this, I still have more thinking to do as to stop thinking about it would mean not to think.

I'm also making a special and frustrating effort to find some MMP grass that will help me create more "open" areas and "clearings" on the map.  Too much space taken up with trees, trees, and MORE trees.

I think this might be what you're looking for, many nice items: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1886

@Belfastsocrates Shame about the corruption. In the first image, i notice you have Gascookers Tesco, have you been able to lot edit it and get it to grow?, as i have had trouble with it getting corrupted after i lot edit it. And the second image nicely shows how your recent update fits in with Passau and what you have shown before.

@Dreadnought I particularly like the MMPs in the first image, not too much use of trees or rocks which some people tend to do.

Some more from me again, same city but different tile. I would just like some thoughts and advice on some things. These are raw SC4 images here.

Tamriel-1458415934_zpsarabydvp.png

This first image just shows the region and allows you to place yourself for my upcoming images in comparison to the CBD. The images i uploaded at the top of this page are from the northern area of development in the region just for comparison.

CBD-13%20Sep.%203581458415818_zpstxylsb8

I just wanted to know what people thought of this area so far. What with so many large residential complexes. I am not going for any particular city style here but it is based of multiple cities on multiple continents, but a general East Asian vibe is most prevalent.

CBD-16%20Sep.%203581458415834_zps5qmbme1

And here i am not 100% sure what to put in the area behind the temple like building, i was thinking of MMPing with flora, or should i remove the temple all together, it doesn't quite go in that location and i'm sure it will find a better one.

Thanks for any input

@tankmank

I would suggest moving the temple to the space near the water on the bottom of the second picture, then put in a couple of park or path lots for a little outdoor area and then MMP the rest of the area.

I agree with phil --

Move the temple near the seashore.  I'd surround it with a forest and put some sort of ornamental park paths around it then landcsape with MMP's.  Temples should either be on hilltops or shorelines -- places of peace and contemplation. :]

The tree mix took several attempts before I got a mix that looked good.  It's amazing how a couple of "wrong" trees stand out in a crowd.  You CAN see the bad tree for the forest!!

I may already have the RRP flora stuff -- I'll have to check.  But thanx for the tip !!

In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed.  But they produced Michael Angelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and The Renaissance.

In Switzerland, they had brotherly love and five hundred years of peace.  And what did that produce?

The cuckoo clock !

Yo, guy --

I will investigate "Poseidon" and see what I can use out of their pack -- dry grasses sound interesting !

Thanx much for the tip -- :thumb:

They're located in the Water Utilities menu.

It's what I used to create the dry grass for my playgrounds in my recent updates.

@tankmank I relotted the Tesco and changed a few things, it's a plopped lot as well. Haven't had any issues with it so far

@Dreadnought  You nailed it, the grass area in the first is exactly right, a simple mix of mmps to blend to breakup the pattern. The sheep pen is all around great, location next to interchange is realistic in that it doesn't get used often and there is some buildup of vegetation other than grass including the trees within the fence line, the dirt patches(heblem sand mmp I assume) all look great :thumb:

Tracing the 'backyard' of my new CBD, with a modular railyard, some small interchanges and underpasses. The idea is to get most networks to converge to the CBD itself.
