Haha.  I've been redoing this peninsula area over and over trying to get it just right.

The thing is, each time I redo it, there's something I keep.  So the pics above are from the first attempt, and I kept the marina/seawalls and some of the beach... but then I redid it all and added a lot more beach area.

Now I'm redoing it for a 3rd or 4th time.  All of the marina/seawall areas are still intact, and the beaches from the second attempt are all intact now.  So I think I'm happy with these two features.  I just need to get some of the other features right how I like them.  Maybe I should hold off on zoning and laying out the streets until I get more of the tile done.  I'm starting to get a glimpse into just how much effort goes into the very best city journals, and I'm not even talking about all the mods and plugins they use it, as I have relatively few.

    That intersection is a monstrosity...

I added a couple additional slip to lanes to it. Better now? :P

The roundabouts look better in my opinion (btw, I've watched every episode of your Building a City from Scratch... with minimal skipping through the crashes and such...).

I've watched through part 41 or 42, so I'm a few parts behind right now, but it's been quite good.

The 3-lane roundabout looks fantastic, as well as the intersection. Great work.

I'm currently working on a small town. It may not look like other small towns, but I got the inspiration off from the small towns I pass through in Texas. :) It may look like another one, but mostly every small town is like this...

The region looks really nice, I'm interested to see what you turn it into.

I'm working on a rural community at the moment. Spent so much time doing medium-density residential urban sprawl, it was time for a change of scenery.

Geesh. Not particularly pedestrian friendly is it. I think the bus stop is more of a token gesture than anything else; once you get off the bus, good luck crossing the de facto motorway ramming through the neighbourhood!

Maybe add in an overhead ped walk?

These are three screenshots from a small island village I've been working on the last few days. I must admit that I'm no pro, so I hope someone likes it. Since I like seasonal woods best, I've tweaked Pegasus' Seasonal wood lots a bit to reduce monthly cost (otherwise I couldn't afford the forest) and park/landmark effect.

The first screenshot depicts the vilage itself, the second one the Schiffenberg monastery with a small farm, the third one a small lake in the forest with a creek flowing down the hill. I'm using the gravel roads as sort of bicycle paths through the forest. As you may see, there's not forest everywhere, I've not decided yet where to plant dense forest and where to only plant a few trees. The Maxis trees are only there to remind me where I probably want to plant forest later.

I'm new to this forum, I hope I'm doing everything right; if not, please write me a comment.

New RHW Connection That Squeaked Into NAM 31.2 At The Last Min

    LrYv6C4.jpg

It's the one with 2 lanes entering the highway.

-Check out how I built it here!

-I plan to retrofit all the bridge connections with it in an effort to increase capacity. It will also widen the bridge complex from 10 to 12 lanes.

Those do look quite pretty. However it may be worth your while in future to find a custom tree controller, which will change the Maxis god-mode trees to something more to your taste, and so giving you greater flexibility with your planting (not limited to squares!). However, don't try to change it with that region (unless you feel like deleting every single god-mode tree on the map first), since changing tree controllers will cause, at the very least, a lot of brown boxes!

Now, what have I been working on?

Well, basically just touching up a large town in my current play region. Pics:

    Market_zpsccbe6877.png

    The Market Building.

Still on the to-do list is to add some other areas of interest, and replace those darn Maxis midrises with something a little more unique. Oh, and replanting a lot of trees, since I forgot they were seasonal when I planted most of them. D'oh!

As always, any comments, criticisms, hate mail etc. is appreciated :)

    The park is just great!

Don't have any real issue with the Maxis midrises, but I would recommend you get on the mattb325 midrises. They would fit in well and break it up a little more.

Thank you :) The park took me several attempts to get right, since I stubbornly decided to not plan it out! However, I was pleased with that last result.

I think I've already got most of mattb's midrises, however they seem to dislike growing in that city (some tactical demolitions of old buildings may be necessary). I guess I'll also use some plopables to mix it up a little. Slowly but surely I am building up a nice base of custom content by binge-downloading (add it to the dictionary ;) ) full catalogues of creators' work that I like the look of haha :)

I Love that park too Lordyboy and Attendee, man your terrain and flora look just incredible. I really love that.

I've been wanting to do a seaport and/or a theme park island with a bridge over it for quite some time. I've finally started on it

using a Seattle map and specifically the region with Harbor Island in it.

Just getting my transportation network worked out so far:

Here is the bridge I am using... it's extremely....   black.  :ooh:

So I removed the monorail and replaced it with glr. I think it looks better now. Verily it took me a long time to make this avenue crossing aesthetically pleasing.

I think it looks much better now. Monorail has always been ugly to me, the GLR really helps improving the look of your shore. I'd only suggest to do something about the slopes of the one-way roads. I don't feel like driving them on my own.

BTW, where did you get that GLR station and that coastwalk from?

The one way roads are two sides of the avenue. Parallel one ways in opposite directions can be joined to avenues. I couldn't get the glr to go over the avenue like that so for cosmetic purposes I used one ways. In the end this configuration looks like a avenue crossover and it actually functions like one. You can drive your car through it.

and as for the stations here you go

Since magnetic railroads are high speed, try to build as few turns as possible. Tram, on the other hand, is slower and more flexible.
