Been working on a Smallish/Mid-sized, British-esque city.  The new Nam certainly helps with designing European Cities with historic character.

Brickton, my WIP looking a bit more complete.  It seems I've got some inspiration for this city from Bristol uninentionally.  any Brits care to criticize my first foray into the style?

 Nice oil works there.

A large WIP city. Named Vivian, its total metro is about 260,000 right now.

And a Transport Map

I'm hoping to eventually hit 1,000,000 people... but that might be a bit of a stretch.

Haha, indeed they are, I might have to see if I can do something about that.

I have a few general tips I guess.

1. First of all, have a rough plan in your head, or on paper, of what you want the area to look like.

2. Build major transport first, IE - railways/avenues and any embankments or terraforming neccessary. This means you can work around the networks, rather than making the transport networks fit your area, this should result in a more realistic look.

3. Only plop parking where it might realistically be , eg around the perimeter of a large factory, or near to the major transport arterys. The same goes for logistics parks and loading areas. Keep parking and loading areas seperate, often with their own dedicated access ways.

4. Place/build your large structures first, do not infill the smaller areas yet.

5. Construct any other minor transport, such as roads/streets - mess around with SAM or NWM to make them fit the look of the area if desired.

6. Infill the gaps with smaller other industrial stuff which complements your larger structures. You may also want to build site offices or add a bit of scrub land, you can make good use of MMP's to create industrial wasteland.

7. Once you've done that, check that it "makes sense" Industrial compounds are often separated with walls or railings. I also cannot recommend T Wrecks industrial revolution project highly enough, it allows you to create seamless industrial areas with ease, get all the addon packs as well :)

Hope that helps :)

I also just started this new town.  Taking a break from the other 1mil residents, we're going small.  Way up in the hills of the above region.
