I've been working on this project sparsely for the past 2 or 3 years, redoing every pieces once in the process since they had rendering errors. This is a set of Shotengai, a kind of commercial street that typical of Japan found in just about every city. They vary in form from an open street, to a covered street and even some big mall-like exemples. Often liking residential areas to train stations or landmarks, temples etc. They vary in design from a very simple canopy to a more elaborate recognizable style. They have existed from before the middle ages but really grew to what is known today around the Showa era. Nowadays, thanks to rural exodus, a lot of Shotengai in small towns are in state of disrepair with paint rusting away and covers falling. Larger towns and cities shotengai tend to be better kept and some have even grown in size to be comparable to a 1 story linear mall. To goal of this set was not to create every different shotengai in existence but more to allow me to have a few variations to put in my cities in order to make them even more realistic. This isn't the first time such a type of street is created in the game, but I thought the previous exemples were too big and not really suited for what I had in mind. Included are 3 different types of pieces: 5 Entrances, 3 straight Covers and 3 Rotundas. Entrances are modeled after real life counterparts, with artistic liberties to make it suit the game style: Takaoka Otaya-dori in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture Izumo Nakamachi in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture Senbayashi in Osaka, Osaka Prefecture Motomachi in Kobe, Hyogo prefecture Tenjinbashi in Osaka, Osaka Prefecture Covers come in three styles: a generic red cover that was modeled after Takaoka Otayha-dori but fits the other styles well A specific cover for Izumo Nakamachi A specific cover for Osaka Senbayashi Rotundas follow the same idea as the covers. The covers are straight pieces 8m in length and almost 16m wide. The set contains 11 lots located at the top of the park menu. Despite my modding, which worked at first, I was not able to keep them in the correct order. BIG thanks to Tibi @Tyberius06 for helping me with the modding side, and @mattb325 for the original Pedestrian TE tutorial. The lots are TE enabled for pedestrian access. Upon placing them in your cities, commercial buildings will grow along them. HOWEVER, we were not able to make it so the sims paths actually go through the lots. Therefore this is more of an eye candy piece rather than a functional set. Also, unfortunately no residential zone can grow along them. There are no dependencies and the texture on the lots is the standard maxis pavement. Support, info about my bats and incoming works in my thread: -
[Mini Journal] Using Transport Fever as a City Builder + Transit Management
City_Borders posted a topic in City-Building Games
Because of the stupid engine limitations (regarding segment, route, and prop limits, specifically) and the instability (after every game and mod update) of CS, among other quirks, I have used Transport Fever as my default City Builder - note: NOT management, never cared about it even in CS/SC4, but just building - for a long while. I have been playing on this region for a while now. It is based in a real life metro area (actually, a number of them); props if you can guess it without looking at the tags. The map, whose savefile is at 1.25 GB and growing, pushes computers' limits to the maximum, and is about 32.8 km by 16.6 km - which feels bigger and less blocky thanks to much smaller increment/block size than CS (for example, a zoned building in CS can normally be 1x1 to 4x4 big, while TF buildings occupy at a minimum somewhere around 15x15 much smaller blocks) - and would have hit CS limits regarding segment, agent, route, prop, and even tree limits, long time ago. Only downside is the lack of mod diversity; decent amount but most of them are European-based. Transport Fever 2, which was released back in December, has more mods, including many imported from TpF 1, and more mod diversity, but I started this region before TpF 2 was released.-

Today, I present to you, Osaka, Japan (大阪、日本)! Osaka (population 19.3 million) is the second largest metropolitan area (by population) in Japan. It is located in the Kansai region of the island of Honshu. The map is 16 x 16 large city tiles and accurately scaled based on DEM data. It has been rotated for all you aviation enthusiasts, so that you can more easily align the runways at Osaka-Kansai International Airport in the game. In order to install the map you will need wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer as the file is in SC4M format. I hope you can put this map to good use, enjoy! -TCC-

The Ishihara Building from Osaka, Japan was created by tadasu, and was originally released on a 1x2 lot. As tadasu has retired from SimCity modding and allows free distribution of his work, I've taken the liberty of relotting this building for W2W diagonals. Here is a 1x1 plop lot allowing you to create a W2W appearance on a diagonal network. The building will occupy an outside corner lot on a diagonal. CS$$$ stats have been adjusted with PIM-X. Stats: Menu location: Landmarks Plop cost: 100 Capacity satisfied: CS$: 93 CS$$: 26 CS$$$: 12 Dependencies: Ishihara Building by tadasu Available from the following site along with many more fine BATs by tadasu: https://tsushinikai.com/SimCity 4/ Or you can use this direct download link: http://tadasu.main.jp/SimCity 4/tds25_yodoyabashi_sw.zip Installation: Unzip to your plugins folder. Removal: Remove the "CT14/tadasu Ishihara Building - Diagonal" folder from your plugins folder. Bugs: None known. Hatsukaichi - The Port + Extra
Ke|is posted a City Journal entry in Saitama Prefecture - The Port of Japan
• Update #8 || Hatsukaichi - The Port + Extra • ############################################################################## • Hello everyone, today I want to share with all of you the last update of Hatsukaichi. We have visited this wonderful town in the last 2 updates but I wanted to leave the port for the last update of Hatsukaichi. Why ? I have put a lot of effort into making this port and I'm really happy with the result, to me the port of Hatsukaichi means a step forward in my way to the perfect recreation of the Japanese landscape. I hope you enjoy all the pictures and the update itself • • In the past, the Hatsukaichi lighthouse was located far from the population and the buildings. This was previously a small peninsula far from the habitable zones of Hatsukaichi • • Due to the strong demand in the country and the shortage of land, the city was gradually gaining space to the sea and today the lighthouse is part of the town itself • • To understand the progress of the port first it is necessary to explain its past. The port is divided into 3 parts, in these two pictures you can see the old port; this one was the first port of Hatsukaichi. It's shape is quite simple, just a small zone created on a a shallow area, building it was simple and for the small and old boats there was no problem of depth ( In the past Hatsukaichi used its port only to supply fish for its inhabitants ) • • When the people of Hatsukaichi realized that the fishing could be a good business, they built an extension of the old port, the part two. Part two consisted in building a dock for ships a little bigger and deeper where the first fishing companies could be established. The Hatsukaichi fish market was also built • • Part two of the port was built between the lighthouse and the old port of Hatsukaichi • • In this image you can appreciate how the old port (Part 1) and the extension (part 2) are perfectly connected along the shoreline • • Currently part 2 of the Hatsukaichi port is normally used by small boats because the larger ships use the new port that we will see below. A small security post was also built to maintain maritime control of the area • • The new port of Hatsukaichi (Part 3) is bigger and more modern, its docks are more spacious and functional and it has much more space for the workers and their trucks • • The part 3, the new port of Hatsukaichi is the heart of the town, most of the inhabitants are working here, fishing is the main business for this people and Hatsukaichi has it own fame. It is located far of the city center, far from the main ports and industries of the prefecture. Its fish is fresh and it is very famous in the entire prefecture of Saitama, for that reason during the all day ships are transporting fish from here to the main port of the Prefecture, located in Tokyu, the biggest city of Saitama Prefecture • ################################################################################## • If you are one of those people who usually come to Hatsukaichi to buy fish or you are just passing by, I recommend you visit this small town located west of Hatsukaichi • • It really has nothing special but for those people who live in the big cities of the Prefecture small towns like this are pure fresh air, simply walk through its small and narrow streets while listening to the sound of the Saitama Sea • • The Saitama Prefecture It is a huge place, it is known as the port of Japan, the whole prefecture is destined to the sea and not only the big international ports are important, ports and places like these contribute to keep our Prefecture in perfect operation. I hope you enjoyd your visit and until the next time my friends • ############################################################################## Greetings / Saludos / Groeten # Jonathan.- 15 Comments

Hatsukaichi - Closer View
Ke|is posted a City Journal entry in Saitama Prefecture - The Port of Japan
• Update #7 || Hatsukaichi - Closer View • ############################################################################## • Hello everyone, in the last update we've seen Hatsukaichi from the heights, now is time to get closer and see all the details that this village can offer to us. This update has a great amount of pictures and all of them are focused in the village of Hatsukaichi and non in its port. We will visit the port in the next update. • • This is Japan and that means that you can reach all places easily. You can reach Hatsukaichi by car; using the Highway, national road or just driving across the roads of the prefecture. By train and also by ferry. in this picture you can see the Highway that cross Saitama from south to north and also the Shinkansen line, it has not station in Hatsukaichi. • • Trains are everywhere, even if only one rail line cross the village there are trains passing through Hatsukaichi all the time • • Here is where the national road is connected with Hatsukaichi, it is one of the entries of the village • • Hatsukaichi during normal days • • The first school in Hatsukaichi, still in function • • There are not too many flats in this village, most of the areas are covered by old low houses • • Some trains parked right in front of the Hatsukaichi station • • The sea has always been good friend in Japan, anyway it is better to keep distances • • The city hall and the Hatsukaichi temple • ( More info later) • Hatsukaichi at night (Very nice and quiet place to live) • ############################################################################## Greetings / Saludos / Groeten # Jonathan.- 11 Comments
