Lot 4x3 The Temple of Concordia (Italian: Tempio della Concordia) is an ancient Greek temple in the Valle dei Templi (Valley of the Temples) in Agrigento (Greek: Akragas) on the south coast of Sicily, Italy. It is the largest and best-preserved Doric temple in Sicily and one of the best-preserved Greek temples in general, especially of the Doric order. The temple was built c. 440–430 BC. The well-preserved peristasis of six by thirteen columns stands on a crepidoma of four steps (measuring 39.42 m × 16.92 m (129.3 ft × 55.5 ft), and 8.93 m (29.3 ft) high) The cella measures 28.36 m × 9.4 m (93.0 ft × 30.8 ft). The columns are 6 m (20 ft) high and carved with twenty flutes and harmonious entasis (tapering at the tops of the columns and swelling around the middles). It is constructed, like the nearby Temple of Juno, on a solid base designed to overcome the unevenness of the rocky terrain. It has been conventionally named after Concordia, the Roman goddess of harmony, for the Roman-era Latin inscription found nearby, which is unconnected with it. If still in use by the 4th-and 5th century, it would have been closed during the persecution of pagans in the late Roman Empire. The temple was converted into a Christian basilica in the 6th century dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul by San Gregorio delle Rape, bishop of Agrigento and thus survived the destruction of pagan places of worship. The spaces between the columns were filled with walling, altering its Classical Greek form. The division between the cella, the main room where the cult statue would have stood in antiquity, and the opisthodomos, an adjoining room, was destroyed, and the walls of the cella were cut into a series of arches along the nave. The Christian refurbishments were removed during the restoration of 1785.[1] According to another source, the Prince of Torremuzza transferred the altar elsewhere and began restoration of the classic building in 1788. According to authors of a 2007 article, it is "apart from the Parthenon, the best preserved Doric temple in the world." -

Lot 4x4 The Castello normanno ("Norman Castle") is a castle in Paternò, in the Province of Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. The castle was built in 1072 by Count Roger I of Sicily to protect the Simeto valley from Islamic raids. The first nucleus of the fortress was soon enlarged, and it subsequently lost its original military functions. Under Henry VI it was made the seat of the Count of Paternò, assigned to his fellow Swabian Bartholomew of Luci. Later the castle housed kings and queens, such as Henry's son Emperor Frederick II, Eleanor of Anjou and Blanche I of Navarre, as the castle had been included in the so-called Camera Reginale estates ("Queen's Chamber") by King Frederick III of Sicily. The Chamber was abolished in the 15th century, and in 1431 the castle was acquired by the Special family; until 1456 it was owned by the Moncada family. Used as a jail, in the following centuries it became increasingly decayed, until restoration work begun in the 19th century brought it back to its ancient prominence. The castle has a rectangular plan, on three floors, with a height of 34 m. Originally, it had Ghibelline-style merlons, of which today only remains can be seen. Notable is the colour effect created by the dark shade of the stones and the frames of the Gothic-style mullioned windows, in white limestone. The first-storey houses several service chambers and the Chapel of St. John, decorated with precious 13th-century frescoes. The piano nobile houses a large Weapons Hall. The king's residence was located in the upper floor. -

4x8 lot Catania Centrale is the main railway station of the Italian city of Catania, in Sicily. Along with Palermo Centrale, Messina Centrale and Syracuse it is one of the most important stations of its region. It is managed by the Ferrovie dello Stato, the national rail company of Italy. The station was inaugurated on 24 June 1866. One century later it was upgraded and renewed due to the electrification of the Messina-Catania line. Catania Centrale is located close to the Port of Catania and by the sea. It has a railway depot and a link to the port. The station building has two floors and a portico and is protected by the national cultural heritage. The station is electrified and served by regional trains, by a metro line and by the Circumetnea railway. For long-distance transport there are InterCity and Express trains to Rome, Turin, Milan and Venice, linking it also with Genoa, Naples, Bologna, Florence, Pisa and other cities. -

6x6 Lot. The Alessi tower was a building consisting of a three-floor tower with a terrace used as a lookout lounge. It was built with an eclectic architecture of exotic taste; it was located in Catania, Sicily. The building was built at the end of the nineteenth century, on a project by the architect Carlo Sada, on behalf of Salvatore Alessi, owner of the homonymous garden. According to some, the style recalled the eclectic language (Eclectism-Catanese liberty) in the Gothic style. It was demolished in 1963. La torre Alessi era un edificio costituito da un serbatoio d'acqua per irrigazione e da una sovrastruttura a torre a tre elementi con funzione di salotto belvedere. Fu realizzata con un'architettura eclettica di gusto esotico; si trovava a Catania, in Sicilia. L'edificio fu costruito alla fine dell'Ottocento, su progetto dell'architetto Carlo Sada, per conto di Salvatore Alessi, proprietario dell'omonimo giardino. Lo stile, secondo alcuni, richiamava il linguaggio eclettico (Eclettismo-liberty catanese)in stile goticizzante. Fu demolita nel 1963. -

5x3 Lot. The St. Mary Basilica is the main church of Randazzo, a village on the slopes of the Etna Volcano. It is in the Gothic-Norman style, built starting from 1214 using the local lava stone. Randazzo (Sicilian: Rannazzu) is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. It is situated at the northern foot of Mount Etna, c. 70 kilometres (43 mi) northwest of Catania. It is the nearest town to the summit of Etna, and is one of the points from which the ascent may be made. In the 13th century the town had its own army, which fought in favor of the king against the rebels. In 1210 King Frederick II of Hohenstaufen and his young wife Constance of Aragon sheltered at Randazzo to escape the terrible plague which raged in Palermo. Randazzo became one of the most densely populated towns in the island, after Palermo and Messina. The town was also divided into three main districts: the Greeks lived in St. Nicola's quarter, the Latins in St. Mary's and the Lombards in St. Martin's. Randazzo was the scene of important action during the latter phases of Operation Husky, the Allied invasion of Sicily, during World War II. Nazi forces were driven from the island by a combined force of British and American troops, which also contained Canadian troops who were fighting under British command. In the course of their retreat the Nazis attempted to hold the northeastern corner of Sicily in the hopes that they would eventually be able to retake the entire island. The Nazis had to abandon this plan when the British 30th Corps forced their way into Adrano while at the same time the British 13th Corps battled the Nazis in the nearby town of Randazzo. Once Adrano and Randazzo fell to the British, the Nazis decided they had no choice but to retire to Messina and use it to evacuate the rest of their forces from Sicily. -

In October, the municipality of Zafferana Etnea organizes a unique festival called Ottobrata Zafferanese. It is celebrated every Sunday of October and it is an opportunity not only to taste typical pastries and cakes, but also to discover and buy typical products of the city and period, such as grapes, bottled fruit, mushrooms, honey, liquor, wine and chestnuts. It is also a beautiful display of handcrafted products made by local artisans. During this event, people can also enjoy exhibitions, documentaries about the Etna volcano, shows and dance performances. This event is very important and the citizens of Zafferana Etnea start preparing the areas of this event from half of September. Zafferana, along with Nicolosi, is now regarded as one of the major tourist stopping points for summer and winter expeditions to the summit of Mt. Etna. -

The ancient theatre (the teatro greco, or "Greek theatre") is built for the most part of brick, and is therefore probably of Roman date, though the plan and arrangement are in accordance with those of Greek, rather than Roman, theatres; whence it is supposed that the present structure was rebuilt upon the foundations of an older theatre of the Greek period. With a diameter of 120 metres (390 ft) (after an expansion in the 2nd century), this theatre is the second largest of its kind in Sicily (after that of Syracuse); it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts. The greater part of the original seats have disappeared, but the wall which surrounded the whole cavea is preserved, and the proscenium with the back wall of the scena and its appendages, of which only traces remain in most ancient theatres, are here preserved in singular integrity, and contribute much to the picturesque effect, as well as to the interest, of the ruin. From the fragments of architectural decorations still extant we learn that it was of the Corinthian order, and richly ornamented. Some portions of a temple are also visible, converted into the church of San Pancrazio, but the edifice is of small size. Il teatro di Taormina avrebbe un'origine ellenistica - sulla base dei pochi documenti archeologici potrebbe essere del III secolo a.C. - ma si presenta totalmente romano nel suo aspetto oggi visibile. La struttura originaria era legata ad un piccolo santuario di cui resta il basamento sul belvedere che sovrasta la cavea. Una prima ricostruzione dell'edificio si ebbe in età repubblicana o primo Impero, forse sotto Augusto, ma ad un ampliamento nella prima metà del II secolo d.C. risalgono le forme oggi note. L'edificio raggiunse i 109 metri di diametro massimo, con un'orchestra dal diametro di 35 metri, per una capienza di circa 10.000 spettatori. In pieno e nel tardo Impero l'edificio venne adattato ad ospitare le venationes (spettacoli di lotta tra gladiatori e bestie feroci): l'orchestra venne mutata in arena sostituendo le gradinate inferiori con un corridoio a volta che connetteva ad un ipogeo al centro dello spiazzo, dove le macchine sceniche permettevano gli "effetti speciali" del combattimento. Infine, in epoca tardo antica, venne realizzato il portico alle spalle della scena. Il suo abbandono probabilmente è da ascriversi con l'assedio dei Vandali e con il conseguente decadimento dell'Impero.- 1 Comment

4x4 Lot The Piazza del Duomo is the main square of the city of Catania. It takes its name from the Duomo di Catania or Cathedral of Saint Agatha which stands on the east side of the square. It was originally constructed in 1078-1093, on the ruins of the ancient Roman Achillean Baths. Access to the baths is by a short staircase left of the Cathedral. After an earthquake in 1693, Giovanni Battista Vaccarini designed a new Baroque façade in 1711. Three streets enter the square: the via Etnea, the historical city axis; the via Giuseppe Garibaldi, and the via Vittorio Emanuele II that crosses it from east to west. On the eastern side of the square stands the Duomo, dedicated to Saint Agatha, patron saint of the city, whose feast is celebrated on 5 February. On the north side is the palazzo degli Elefanti or the Town Hall. In front of this building stands a fountain designed by Vaccarini, consisting of an obelisk on the back of the elephant u Liotru, the (symbol of Catania). On the other side of the square, there is the Amenano fountain, in front of the Palazzo dei Chierici. Between the Palazzo dei Chierici and the Cathedral is the Porta Uzeda. From the terraces you can admire two splendid panoramas: on one side, the spectacle of Piazza del Duomo in Catania with the Elephant fountain and Via Etnea with Mount Etna in the background; on the other, the walls of Charles V, the port of Catania with the arches of the Marina up to the Ursino castle. The door of Charles V is part of the only remaining part of the city walls. Access to the baths by accessing the Diocesan Museum of Catania: a barrel-vaulted corridor built into the gap between the Roman structures and the foundations of the cathedral (whose access consists of a short flight of steps at different times to the left of the façade) allows to take a trip into the bowels of the city, where the Amenano river flows, whose waters rise to the surface in the nearby Amenano fountain in the square in front. The name of the plant is deduced from an inscription on a marble slab of the Lunense area reduced to six very fragmented main fragments, probably dating back to the first half of the 5th century, now exhibited in the Civic Museum at Castello Ursino. -

Lot 11x8 The Amphitheatre of Catania is an ancient structure in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy, built in the Roman Imperial period, probably in the 2nd century AD, on the northern edge of the ancient city at the base of the Montevergine hill. Only a small section of the structure is now visible, below ground level, to the north of Piazza Stesicoro. This area is now the historic centre of the city, but was then on the outskirts of the ancient town and also occupied by the necropoleis of Catania. The structure is part of the Parco archeologico greco-romano di Catania. L'anfiteatro romano di Catania, di cui è visibile solo una piccola sezione nella parte occidentale della piazza Stesicoro, è una imponente struttura costruita in epoca imperiale romana, probabilmente nel II secolo, ai margini settentrionali della città antica, a ridosso della collina Montevergine che ospitava il nucleo principale dell'abitato. It was built during the 1240s by the Emperor Frederick II, who had inherited the lands from his mother Constance of Sicily. In the 18th century, the castle's interior marbles and remaining furnishings were removed. It has neither a moat nor a drawbridge and some considered it never to have been intended as a defensive fortress; however, archaeological work has suggested that it originally had a curtain wall. Described by the Enciclopedia Italiana as "the most fascinating castle built by Frederick II", the site is protected as a World Heritage Site. It also appears on the Italian version of the one cent Euro coin. Castel del Monte è una fortezza del XIII secolo fatta costruire dall'imperatore del Sacro Romano Impero Federico II nell'altopiano delle Murge occidentali in Puglia, nell'attuale frazione omonima del comune di Andria, a 17 km dalla città, nei pressi della località di Santa Maria del Monte, in provincia di Barletta-Andria-Trani, sulla sommità di una collina, a 540 metri s.l.m. 6x3 Lot. Trani Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Pilgrim in Trani, Apulia, south-eastern Italy. Formerly the seat of the archbishop of Trani, it is now that of the archbishop of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie. Consecrated in 1143, is one of the main examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture. It was built using the local stone of Trani, typical of the region: a calcareous tuff, obtained from the caves of the city, characterised by its colour, an extremely light pink, almost white. The cathedral is distinguished by its showy transept and by its use of the high pointed arch in the passage beneath the bell tower, which is unusual in Romanesque architecture. -

Here we are again! Initially the idea was to update the previous version of Umbria, but the differences were so many that I decided to divide this map from other maps of regions of Italy. This map, unlike earlier, is much more detailed and conforms to the true region. It has the smaller rivers, the mountains better follow their true course and the general dimensions are EXACTLY as the original ones. Compared to the previous version, this map of Umbria is a bit larger (1025x1281), has 17 large, 8 medium and 8 small regions. I want to thank Amedeo80 for his suggestions, it is thanks to its clarification that this map has come to life! I hope you like it! Comments and suggestions are, as always, welcome! INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Start SC4 and create a new region (no matter the type - water or land) and call it Umbria HD (or as you prefer). 2. Quit the game or reduce it to an icon and go to C:\Users\your name\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Umbria HD. 3. Copy both files .bmp files in that folder and return to the game. 4. Get into another region and then returns to the newly created (so that the game will load the file confing). << * Skip this step if you exit the game. 5. Hold down CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + R, go to the folder C: \Users\your name\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Umbria HD and select umbria_HD.bmp. 6. Wait few minutes and ... It 's all! ..::ITALIANO::.. Eccoci di nuovo! Inizialmente l'idea era quella di aggiornare la versione precedente dell'Umbria, ma poi le differenze erano talmente tante che ho preferito dividere quest'ultima mappa dalle altre mappe delle regioni dell'Italia. Questa mappa, a differenza delle precedenti, è molto più dettagliata ed conforme alla vera regione. Essa ha i fiumi più piccoli, le montagne seguono meglio il loro vero corso e le dimensioni generali sono ESATTAMENTE come quelle originali. Rispetto alla versione precedente, questa mappa dell'Umbria è un pò più grande (1025x1281); Ha 17 grandi, 8 medie ed 8 piccole regioni. Voglio ringraziare Amedeo80 per i suoi suggerimenti, è grazie alle sue precisazioni che questa mappa ha preso vita! Spero vi piaccia! Commenti e suggerimenti sono, come sempre, ben accette! Get into another region and then returns to the newly created (so that the game will load the file confing). << * Skip this step if you exit the game. 5. ..::ENGLISH::.. This map is a map 4x3,5 of Campania. It has 7 large and 14 medium-sized regions. The rest is just water. Rivers, lakes and mountain ranges are the same way as in real life (to be honest, the island of Ischia is moved slightly to make it fit entirely in a region). As always, comments and suggestions are welcome! I hope you like it! I created this map using only Photoshop CS5. INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Start SC4 and create a new region (no matter the type - water or land) and call it Campania (or as you prefer). 2. Quit the game or reduce it to an icon and go to C:\Users\your name\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Campania. 3. Copy both files .bmp files in that folder and return to the game. 4. Get into another region and then returns to the newly created (so that the game will load the file confing). << * Skip this step if you exit the game. 5. Hold down CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + R, go to the folder C: \Users\your name\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Campania and select campania.bmp. 6. Wait few minutes and ... It 's all! ..:: ITALIANO ::.. Fiumi, laghi e le catene montuose sono allo stesso modo come nella realtà (ad essere onesti, l'isola d'Ischia è stata leggermente spostata per farla rientrare completamente in una regione).
