Community Hall, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- Made as a request, this building is based on the Ballhaus Ost in Berlin. Originally a mourning hall, it has since been converted to a community space and theatre. Normally, when I receive a request, before I even agree to do it, one of the first things I do is look for similar BATs or lots that already exist. Certainly I wasn't expecting to find the Ballhaus Ost, but I was even more surprised to see that the broader definition of community halls did not exist either. This is despite the fact that community halls are everywhere in real life. In real life, community halls were generally built for smaller towns or satellite suburbs near schools, churches, main shopping streets, train stations and so forth. Most of these buildings were constructed in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries on council land. In many cases they were funded entirely by the council. They have an important function to play in community life: they host a whole variety of different uses and are rented out to community groups at a very low cost. So things like free amateur theatre, pop-up art exhibitions, Alcoholics Anonymous, flower judging competitions, Cat and Dog fanciers judging, Rotary club meetings, Country Womens Association meetings, Church groups/Bible studies ,etc are all likely to take place in these venues. This BAT is typical of the style: quite utilitarian and non-descript, even though the buildings themselves have classical elements. It is on a 2x3 lot and it is found in the reward menu. It offers a handful of jobs and will boost surrounding desirability for business and residential, as well as provide landmark, park and mayor effects. It needs road, power and water. There is no monthly cost. There are no restriction as to how often these lots can be placed. --------------------------------------- STATS: Lot size: 2x3 Plop Cost: $20 Bulldoze Cost: $90 Monthly Cost: $0 Wealth: Medium Park Effect: 80 over 15 tiles Landmark Effect: 80 over 10 tiles Mayor Rating: 8 over 440 tiles Pollution at Centre:1 (air) /1 (water) /3 (garbage) Pollution Radius: 2/3/0 Demand Created: R$ 12, R$$ 5 Power Consumed: 5 Mwh Water Consumed: 3 Gallons Occupant Groups: Reward; State Fair, Dog Magnet, YIMBY, Sim Crowd Day small. --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users and one for the standard Maxis nite. If you are unsure whether you have a night-darkening mod installed, then choose the Maxis night version. If you use the dark nite version, you will need a dark nite mod. The ancient theatre (the teatro greco, or "Greek theatre") is built for the most part of brick, and is therefore probably of Roman date, though the plan and arrangement are in accordance with those of Greek, rather than Roman, theatres; whence it is supposed that the present structure was rebuilt upon the foundations of an older theatre of the Greek period. With a diameter of 120 metres (390 ft) (after an expansion in the 2nd century), this theatre is the second largest of its kind in Sicily (after that of Syracuse); it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts. The greater part of the original seats have disappeared, but the wall which surrounded the whole cavea is preserved, and the proscenium with the back wall of the scena and its appendages, of which only traces remain in most ancient theatres, are here preserved in singular integrity, and contribute much to the picturesque effect, as well as to the interest, of the ruin. From the fragments of architectural decorations still extant we learn that it was of the Corinthian order, and richly ornamented. Some portions of a temple are also visible, converted into the church of San Pancrazio, but the edifice is of small size.

Okrug 78 II - Theatre of Life
Kim Sunwoo posted a City Journal entry in Leningrad | Ленинград 1941-44
"Here was the fence around our childhood home, here stood the great rustling maple... I went to the front through the days of my childhood, along the streets where I ran to school” - Olga Berggolts 8/11/1941 - The day after the great bombardment, Alexandrinsky Theatre woke up amidst the smoke from a great fire in Ekaterininskiy Garden. The statue of Catherine the Great was witness to the explosion of a small bomb just 50 metres away from her pedestal. 8/11/1841 - A century before the previous picture was taken, Alexandrinsky Square looked very different, with romantic carriages driving through cobblestone roads. Notice how the buildings to the top left of the image had not yet been built. This propaganda poster invites the Leningraders to contribute to the victory joining the fight in the front. 25/10/1941 - Lomonosovsky Square is a small garden in the rondabout that connects Ulitsna Lomonosova, Stepanovskiy Prospekt and Ulitsa Zodchego Rossi. This last street takes to Alexandrinskiy Square. The building in the corner has suffered heavy damage from an artillery shell. Now that their homes have been destroyed, hundreds of thousands Leningraders will have nowhere to hide from the winter. Disclaimer: This CJ includes original photos taken during the siege. To my knowledge none of them is protected by copyright, but if I were wrong I'm happy to delete any picture that infringes the law. ----------------------------------[AUTHOR'S COMMENT]---------------------------------- I hope you enjoyed this update, and again, next week we'll me moving to a new okrug ;-) -

The Palais Theatre, Melbourne, Australia I'm supporting NYBTs Art Deco Month with a series of three Melbourne Art Deco buildings. #3 The Palais Theatre The Palais Theatre is a former cinema, now functioning exclusively as a concert venue, located in St Kilda, Victoria, Australia. With a capacity of 2,896 people, it is the largest seated theatre in Australia. The building, which retains many of its original features, is considered one of the finest examples of Art deco architecture in Australia and is on the Victorian Heritage Register. (source: Wikipedia) This is my 17th BAT. The Palais Theatre is made available in the following versions: A ploppable Functional Landmark. Lot size 6x3, Medium Wealth Commercial Services provides 1268 jobs and costs §110,000 to build. There are no Prop dependencies, although the Dark Nite version requires SimFox_Day_n_Nite_Modd. Download either the Darknight or Maxis night versions (xx_DN or xx_MN respectively) not both. If you're unsure, download the Maxis Night version. Please visit my Melbourne BAT thread to see my upcoming projects. Also in this Art Deco series are: The Manchester Unity Building The Century Building -
New Devon City is situated in the western part of the country near capital city (LUCKY CITY) only 50 kilometers. New Devon City consist of the two parts. First part is historical part of town and it is called Old Devonia. Old Devonia is built in 16th century on the high stone cliff. There is a big castle, which is accessible in all days in the year. Tourists can visit big theatre, museum or small church of Saint Michal. If you are not interested in the historical monuments you can take a nap on the beach. Pic1. Old Devonia Pic2. Old Devonia The second part is new modern part with big industrial zone and seaport. It is called New Devon. This part is situated on the eastern part of the Devonia coast. In the city there are many shopping malls, entertainment centres, schools, libraries and sport centres. The whole New Devon City is sticked together with Old devonia. Population of the city is more than 130,000 residents. It is coastal city, so there are more summer resorts. Almost 50,000 tourists visit this city in the year. There is one problem. Traffic. There are many cars, buses and trucks passing through the city. The air pollution is rising.

Well, finally I've made something that in my opinion is worth uploading on the STEX, so here's my first upload ever: an ancient Greek theatre. I know, it's a quite simple lot, but hey, you've got to start somewhere with learning how to make lots The theatre appears in the landmarks menu. It's a 1x1 lot, so you can build it against a hill (like the ancient Greek did). Plop cost: §0 (as the ancient Greek built it) Monthly cost: §50 Bulldoze cost: §250 No dependencies. Enjoy! UPDATE: As some of you suggested, I started a BAT thread which you can find here: https://community.simtropolis.com/topic/50539-smf-16-bat-thread/ Check it out for my proceedings on the texturing! -

Suomalainen Teatteri is my latest BAT. It is semi-fictional BAT, based on Svenska Teatern / Ruotsalainen Teatteri from Helsinki. In the game BAT acts as museum (because can't build theaters, d'oh!). It will bring culture and music to your cities in a lovely park with a cafe. For more information on real building, just Google Svenska Teatern! It's my favourite building in Helsinki, because its a) beautiful b) great location on a park c) better shows than in Helsinki City Theater. STATS Educational menu-version only Lot Size: 3x5 Plop Cost: 1 000 § Max. Funding: 5 000 § Coverage: 1000 Studen Capacity: 300 Dependacies: BSC Textures vol. 1 & vol. 2 Everything is more popular in Krioworks than Spiderman: Turn off the Dark-musical. -

Reconstruction site of the Rembrandt Theatre. Originally built between 1900/02, by a design of Evert Breman and Willem Molenbroek. The theatre was demolished in the late thirties and replaced by a modern blocky theatre, which burnt down in 1940. The site remained a gap for many years, until 1969/70 when more of the surrounding buildings were demolished to make place for new hotel. Edits (11-21-04): Model size - i put it on a smaller lot (3x5 instead of 4x6), as this fits better with both my own files, as well as most other w2w buildings. Most walls are changed into a red brick, which is more realistic. Only the representative facades were made in a more expensive yellow brick. V-apps, 07-29-04 / 10-27-04 / 11-21-04, finished model will follow later(november/december) -

*UPDATED* (See Rush Hour notes below) The stars have come out over SimCity tonight and so have the fans, to attend the presentation of the Sim Academy Awards and to get a glimpse of the glitteratti. The Academy Awards Theatre is the home of the "Mayors", a little statue that looks just like you but gives your lucky movie star Sims a status far above the rest. Get your cameras out and get ready for the big night! 5X5 Landmark Lot Free to plop but 10,000 to bulldoze Dependencies: SimCity 4 Buildings as Props (bldgprop_vol1.dat & bldgprop_vol2.dat) Rush Hour Notes: 11/23/03 I tested this lot in a clean installation of Rush Hour. The only plugins in the folder were bldgprp_vol1 and vol2 along with the AATheatre lot file downloaded from the LEX today. No other lots or plugins are on my system, anywhere, except those that were on the original cd's (I am working from a clean hard drive). Also installed on the machine is the Lot Editor (downloaded clean today). I hope it works for you as well it does for me. Staff Edit: Added dependency link.
