Indonesia is set to launch Southeast Asia’s first high-speed railway on Monday (Oct 2), a delayed multibillion-dollar project backed by China that will cut travel between capital Jakarta and another major city by hours. The Chinese-made bullet train named Whoosh is built to take more than 600 people to and from Jakarta and the Javan city of Bandung in 45 minutes, and is part of China’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative. President Joko Widodo has lauded the project for the fast ride it will provide between the two cities on Indonesia’s most populous island Java, and he will inaugurate it on Monday, local media reports indicated, citing officials. “We will launch it on Oct 2 because on Oct 1, the president is busy,” Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi told reporters last Friday. The train can reach speeds up to 350 kmh, and has cost a joint Chinese-Indonesian venture more than US$7 billion to build. It was built by KCIC, which is made up of four Indonesian state companies and Beijing’s China Railway International Co. It was set to cost less than US$5 billion and be built by 2019 but delays due to construction issues and the Covid-19 pandemic caused a spike in the outlay. Authorities have been running public trials of the new high-speed journey of 142 km before its opening. Chinese Premier Li Qiang rode the train with senior Indonesian minister Luhut Pandjaitan last month on his visit to Jakarta for a series of summits with South-east Asian leaders. Pandjaitan told reporters last Thursday that Widodo plans to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping in the future to ride the train, without providing further details. (Source: The Business Times) Indonesia’s launch of Southeast Asia’s first high-speed railway is set to be an occasion of national pride, but the China-backed project’s outstanding debt also highlight the costs of what is sure to become President Joko Widodo’s legacy. After years of delays and budget blowouts, the US$7.2 billion Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train – which connects the two cities 142km (88 miles) apart in under an hour at speeds of up to 350km/h – is set to open to the public with great fanfare on Sunday. Pre-trials conducted by the authorities indicated strong interest from Indonesians, who caused website outages after swarming online to grab 500 free tickets per day from September 17-30. The government had also invited a who’s who of guests, including celebrities and social media influencers, ahead of the launch to experience the new train line named Whoosh (waktu hemat, operasi optimal, sistem handal), which translates to “saving time, optimal operation, reliable system”. Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto, a presidential hopeful in the 2024 election, described Whoosh as “extraordinary” after he took a ride with Widodo on September 19. “Proud to be a child of the nation. We have a high-speed train; it’s sophisticated, modern and clean. Feels like [I’m travelling] abroad, it feels very good,” Prabowo said. Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi went a step further and compared Whoosh with Japan’s vaunted Shinkansen and France’s renowned Train à Grande Vitesse. The project is expected to strengthen ties between Indonesia and China, and open doors to additional Belt and Road Initiative projects for Southeast Asia’s largest economy. Andry Satrio Nugroho, industry, trade, and investment researcher at Jakarta-based Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef), said the Beijing-funded rail project was part of Widodo’s presidential legacy, albeit a costly one. “One of the infrastructures that developed countries usually have is high-speed trains. This is where Indonesia is headed. Jokowi wants Indonesia to get out of the middle-income trap by 2045, and be a nation whose per-capita income is equivalent to developed countries,” Andry said, using the Indonesian president’s popular nickname. “However, this fast train is a burden to carry. The debt repayments still have to be met, as well as loan interest. Every year, we will also inject funds from the state budget to Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI),” he said, referring to the public railway operator. “So, the legacy that Jokowi has built is quite costly for the country.” Kereta Cepat Indonesia China, the two countries’ joint venture behind the Jakarta-Bandung railway project, said last week that the Indonesian and Chinese governments had agreed to allocate 1 trillion rupiah (US$64.3 million) per year for China Railway Engineering Corporation and KAI to pay for the maintenance and operational costs. ‘Difficult for it to be profitable’ Initially estimated at US$6.07 billion, Whoosh’s budget ballooned by US$1.2 billion due to issues related to construction of facilities, land procurement and the Covid-19 pandemic. To cover the cost overruns, Indonesia sought loans from the China Development Bank and secured a rate of “more than 2 per cent”, Widodo’s trusted cabinet minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said in June. The loan has been criticised by some for being a sum that could be avoided, if not for Widodo choosing to go with China instead of Japan for the project. When Widodo in 2015 picked China over Japan to build the railway, he had vowed the state coffers would not be touched and that the project would be a business-to-business deal. The loan’s 2 per cent repayment rate is also higher than the 0.1 per cent rate offered by Japan in its proposal, while the proposed Japanese budget of US$6.2 billion would have been lower than the project’s final price tag. “This should be a lesson learned for the government. It is quite difficult for the fast train to be profitable. According to our calculations, it won’t be profitable even after the next three presidents,” Indef’s Andry said. Still, Widodo appears to be satisfied with the railway project, which was completed four years later than planned. He has repeatedly said he would again tap on China to extend the Jakarta-Bandung railway onwards to Surabaya, a business hub in the eastern part of Java Island some 781km from Jakarta, with the aim of making the line more economically sustainable. Widodo has previously said he wanted Japan to build a separate Jakarta-Surabaya railway via northern Java Island, while it was envisaged that China would build a southern link. The Japanese embassy in Indonesia told This Week in Asia on September 20 that Tokyo had submitted the results of a “preparatory study” for the northern line. It said Japan would “refrain from commenting on the extension of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail, as the Indonesian government has not yet announced a specific policy on this matter”. Analyst Christine Tjhin said the opening of the Jakarta-Bandung railway was an indication of Indonesia’s “responsiveness” to technology and innovation. The transfer of technology from China to Indonesia, through both countries’ joint research initiatives, driver training and interactions between engineers, could one day translate into further advancement of Indonesia’s transport system, not just on the island of Java but also the rest of the archipelago, she said. “We’re quite lucky because the one that we got now is already among the latest products from China,” said Tjhin, who is the director of strategic research at the Jakarta-based Gentala Institute, a consultancy focused on boosting ties between Indonesian and Chinese investors. “Who knows, maybe we can have a cross-island high-speed train … In China, they have the ones that can go above the water.” According to Tjhin, the high-speed rail project had also boosted Indonesia’s image in the eyes of the Chinese public, as it was frequently featured in meetings between both countries’ officials at high-level forums, such as last year’s G20 summitin Bali and the recently concluded Asean summit. “It captures the attention of the Chinese government and also the Chinese population. This is good because a lot of the perception in China about investing in Indonesia has been pretty much shadowed by our historical past,” she said, referring to crackdowns on ethnic Chinese people decades ago. “They have increased confidence that Indonesia is no longer anti-Chinese." This Sunken Hybrid Railway Station is based on Oidaas ESA Sunken Rail Station. It's a high capacity station, which serves two passing through HRW DTR lines on ground level (L0), however the shape and purpose of the model makes it rather suitable in a 15.5 meters deep trench. For creating said trench, please use terrain tools or the Hole Digger and Raiser tool which part of the Network Addon Mod provided by the NAM Team. This is a brand new station LOT based on the freshly made sunken station model created by @Oidaas. This LOT was created for the Hybrid RailWay Dual Network (RRW-RHSR). This station provides 102 jobs. It allows both Monorail (RHSR) and regular Passenger Train (RRW) traffic to get-on/off from the trains, and also allows them to pass through on the station. It has a Bus Stop and Subway Station as well. Freight Trains can pass through on this station too. Special gratitude goes for the following people: Oidaas for the main station building eggman121 for creating the Hybrid RailWay network Girafe and the VIP Team for the beautiful urban and flora props and for the vehicle props CP/Cycledogg for the bench props Jestarr: for the fence props SFBT Team for the base texture used as a wall texture Bipin for some of the station shelter props which are a nice addtion to the NAM z1 and the fellow MTA/NAM members for establishing the current standards for transportation LOTs. This L1 (7.5 meters) Elevated Hybrid Railway Station is a creation of @Oidaas. The upload contains two versions of the LOT that share the same stats, but use slightly different prop sets. It's a high capacity station, which serves two passing through HRW DTR lines on Level 1 (7.5 meters) height. These are brand new station LOTs based on the freshly made L1 station model created by Oidaas and was created for the Hybrid RailWay Dual Network (RRW-RHSR). This station provides 92 jobs. It allows both Monorail (RHSR) and regular Passenger Train (RRW) traffic to get-on/off from the trains, and also allows them to pass through on the station. It has a Bus Stop, underground parking facility and Subway Station as well. Freight Trains can pass through on this station too. The lotting on the v1 LOT (Oidaas HRW L1 Station (short 4x4)_v1_c0ba2efc.SC4Lot) was made by Oidaas, while on the v2 LOT (Oidaas-Tyb06 HRW L1 Station (short 4x4)_v2_a9a83ef5.SC4Lot) it was made by Tyberius06. The modding and functional transit enabling was made by Tyberius06. In the video posted above, When building a One Way Road of any size other than 2 lanes across these very four rail systems (regular rail, Elevated Rail, and one way high speed rail), the one way road appears to become visually, if not operationally, broken. No matter how many times you try to correct this by dragging the cursor with the one way road, it still doesn't fix it. Not shown in the video, if you don't have a starter piece, the whole road breaks (into two laned one way roads). This has been a problem since the induction of High Speed Rail along with the One Way Road. EDIT: I just noticed that this also happens when you make two high speed rails at most 2 spaces away from each other. Seems to work fine with just one HSR, but that's only if there is another one way road starter piece plopped on the other side. Notice when I plop one in the middle, it fixes the graphical bug, but then you can't put the rail in. I think it might be a programming issue or overlap of many pieces that causes this graphical (maybe even automa) bug. More testing is needed.

hey all I have NAM 34 full install. Sim City 4 deluxe fully patched and working. Just attempted to build High Speed Rail and all I get is brown boxes. I plop a starter piece then drag monorail through it and delete starter piece. I've also tried keeping the starter piece. Happens no matter which direction. I have tried re-installing NAM and no help there. So anybody know what might be the problem? Do I need to download something to fix it? I have searched here and not found anything close to my problem. HELP!

Greetings,I was scratching my head about 2 ideas, maybe they were already discussed, or not, so here they are;MAGLEVI am aware that Maglev idea was previously proposed by andreharv, the maker of additional public transit, which he said that he might consider it. I support the idea of having maglevs around two concepts:1. They will serve very high speed transportation between key parts of the city with very high transportation capacity. We don't need to stick to the reality here, if we're building the city of future (I am certainly in modeling for this concept) and if time is money, then one can assume that maglevs will become one day one of the basic tools of transportation of the future's metropolis.2. Maglev alone should attract tourist like space elevator. If space elevator could bring (or spawn) tourists to the city, the maglev station should do the same thing. 2bis. Due to the high cost of maintenance and high requirement of electricity, station should be expensive to build and maintain. Maglev requires certain tools of course;1. It might serve as train, but on its on separate track, therefore we can assign very high speeds for it. It can be also connected to any station until a proper maglev station comes out. (For the train I volunteer as its modder).2. Train tracks for maglev of course should look like different, i assume this can be arranged right now thanks to network extensions. The immediate need would be to have modern pillars for elevated train tracks and some decorations along the maglev allocated train tracks. 3. Technically I'd say, we have everything for a maglev. Turning points might be problematic but then again I'd leave that as challenge to builders to create straight lines in their cities.HIGH SPEED TRAIN NETWORKS AND THE FREIGHT ISSUEI think the biggest problem right now, I believe, is the fact that both freight and passenger trains are using the same track. Even if you build a second set next to the other, trains simply wont select the new one because "it's less used". The selection is, i believe is based on the closest route between A and B. If we can have a possibility to assign trains to specfic tracks, it might simplify certain things such as: Creating a railway network with multiple tracks, passing through passenger stations, without the need of separating freight network along the entire line. Adding an additional track for freights would've solved the problem of piling of freight trains around train stations. It would also allow to create high speed networks. My biggest issue, so far, is the reason why a user would prefer a specific model of train some other train. The reasons in real life are different than in CS. While high speed trains would offer transport in short time on long distance, trains such as InterRegio, InterCity etc. offer a solution for lines which have high amount of passengers to transport. Simply put, high speed trains travel longer distances in shorter times, while 'slower' trains travel long or short distances which have more train stops, in order to transport more people. Similar concept can be applied on urban trains (FLIRT comes to mind). However, in the game, we simply make choices because we like the looks or its passenger capacity. CS doesn't even care which train carries how many passenger, as long as it covers that A-B the straighest possible, citizens simply select this train. Therefore, having a proper network, on which we can use different speeds and keep freight separated on specific location would clear up existing network. Using trains (or train models) wouldn't be only a matter of esthetics but a strategic decision, since you will have to decide whether you need a high speed train between point A - B with average citizen amount, or you want to create a peripheral network of regional trains which will carry the mass on multiple stops. Freight trains would use allocated railway network on necessary locations. What do you think, what are your thoughts about this ? I know that, all of the above is easy on paper and I'm not a modder myself but regardless I'd like to hear what others are thinking on those matters. My kind regards

Vigata Vigata is a city that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Before the town there is a small fraction of Vigata called Montelusa. Here is the small historic village Descending from this small country that sits on a Hill you reach the highway linking Vigata with its airport and with the rest of the nation. Here is the highway and its beautiful countryside with the farm While we are approaching the city the Sun is going down and that's an old train station close in a modern industrial area And here's a piece of the city during sunset..... ....and the beach The night has fallen is the city is transformed into a lively centre. And one of the radio stations that are all the rage in Siculia is Nightride FM Here is a piece of radio station... ...and the city at night with its shopping mall with a river But now we move into downtown where there is a lot of movement of people bargain hotels and modern skyscrapers The city at night: between lights and people making noise The Platani River which crosses the city and historic bridges and some modern High speed train station between old town and downtown Finally the Church of San Gerlando in Agrigento by night COMMENT REPLIES: SICULIA' LL BE BACK First of all those pics were being tested with various effects so thanks to your feedback. michae95l: Thanks for the comment BugeyedDragon: Thanks for the comment. After searching the STEX for a terminus station to sit alongside my mainline rail terminal I discovered there wasn't one. Several hours in MAX later and I ended up with this. Now me and Barbyw went through a lot of hassle to get this thing to work in the game (for some reason it just didn't want to) but we got there in the end. Here it is, a proper terminus for the High Speed Rail Project. Lot Size: 5x18 Transit Enabled Lot Capcity: 60,000 HSR (monorail) Build Cost: §20,000 dependencies: Mandatory: HSRP (duh!) This is my first upload as a member of SCRT. This pack contains two stations for the High Speed Rail Project by Warrior. One for Ground High Speed Rail and one for High Speed Rail. Unlike the trainsit hub they only act as a station for HSR . They were modeled in max but i had a render error so i had to render in gmax. Both are on a 1x6 lot and have the same stats: Plop Cost $400 Bulldoze Cost $400 Jobs 5$$ 5$$$ Pollution 5 Garbage Power 25 Monthly Cost $20 Entry Cost $2 Capacity 10000 Dependencies High Speed Rail Project To see a bigger picture click here. Have Fun and please rate. EDIT: Someone mentioned a error with this station that i didnt catch till now (sorry) if you cant get this station to work then re-download it and it should work now.- 69 Comments

UPDATE: The station has been fixed so it will work properly for everybody. PC VERSION The first Beta 1 release of the High Speed Rail Project (HSRP) also included a HSRP Transit Hub that has connectors for High Speed Rail, Elevated Rail, Commuter Rail, and also works as a bus station. For the new HSRP release by the NAM Team, the station has been modified slightly in order to provide a better in-game appearance and stats. The HSRP Transit Hub can be found at the bottom of the Rail menu and has a passenger capacity of 40,000. The 8x6 lot is intended to serve as a transit hub in a downtown setting, hence the various rail connections and the bus station functionality. dependencies: High Speed Rail Project (April 2008) --- ---- 39 Comments
