Scaling props in a .DAT with Model Tweaker without overwriting the original file
delyrium posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Hi guys! I'm trying to scale props which are packed within a .dat with the Model Tweaker. The problem is that I don't want to overwrite the original file but instead have both the original and scaled props available in the Lot Editor. I've already tried to copy and rename the original .dat file, scaling the renamed file and having both files in the Plugins folder. However, for some reason only the scaled props are available in the Lot Editor. I'm assuming that it has to do with the naming as the props still have the same names within the to differently named .dat files. If this is the case how can I change these names within the .dat file so that both versions (scaled and original) are available in the Lot Editor? Using the Reader? Cheers Delyrium -
Hello ST Friends, While on my way back to full SC4 gameplay, I have started by ensuring my game has all the original necessary and completeness files. I compared items here: https://community.simtropolis.com/sc4-maxis-files/ with my Plugins folder, and found its almost an exact match, except im missing a bunch of dats, and then i have this extra dat called z_AllInOne.dat. I looked for it on the STEX but couldn't find it (there were some plop building dats that might relate). Does anyone know what this might be? Its 26KBs and has a create date of 3/5/2004. Also... about those missing files... I can't find these anywhere on my system. Is it possible these are known by another name, or perhaps rolled into another pretty common file? Plugin_002_TheLivingMall.dat CastleSet.dat Longfellow Castle_4d50ba18.SC4Lot Plugin_007_AirForceBase.dat Thanks.

I accidentally overwrote my Simcity_1.dat file. Does anyone have a backup of an unmodified version?

I know the prop's name but can't find the respective exemplar
TheMurderousCricket posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Hello Everyone, I'm afraid I can't find my way around iLive Reader again... Here's what I intend to do... I have identified the names of several props and I would like to make my own prop family out of them. One of the names involved is "Flora2x2x2_QuarterShrub_1EDF" and it is located in the default SimCity_1.dat. I tried to use this tutorial but it doesn't even say how to search for exemplar names in .dat files! This is exactly the problem - I can't find the exemplar which contains the name of my chosen prop(s). Consequently, I cannot copy it to a new .dat file and create a new prop family. Searching for the exemplar name, no matter which option I choose, does not yield any results except for lot where they are already used. Which is not what I'm after. The only way by which I can see this exemplar is through the "navigator" window. But that does not allow me to copy the file and carry on with my project. Any tips? I'm really tired trying to figure it out. -
Struggling to get this program working so I can use CAM. I am a totally newbie and don't know anything really about modding besides following instructions. This is the message I get: See the logfile 'C:\Program Files (x86)\SC4DatPacker2008\SC4DatPacker.exe.log' for details I have already copied and pasted the 3 DLLs to my C:\Windows\System subfolder.

Locale dat? Maxis and Functional Landmarks Conflict?
Kloudkicker posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I noticed I have load order issue with my landmark files and a question on the SimCityLocal file(s). Steam copy of SimCity 4 version = 1.1.641.0, osVersion Windows 10 Home 64-bit NT 6.2. Question 1. The SimCityLocale.DAT(from Steam) file is the only one I can see in the directory. Where is the one with .dat(in blue pic 1)extension coming from overriding the first and why? Same file size. 2. The Sku_Data\Sku_US\Plugin_002_TheLivingMall.dat file is getting overridden by the Maxis DLC Landmarks\Plugin_TheLivingMall.dat. What is going on and dose it need correcting and how? But... But the kicker is, I download the Functional Landmarks (https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21340-functional-landmarks-complete-set-v10/) while this was going on. I've placed some LMs already. I just now noticed the Maxis LMs are overriding some of the functional LMs. One is the living mall that is in turn, overriding the Sku_Data version. I know I need to removing the currently placed landmarks within the cities I've made before any file moving happens. 3. What is the best approach for the load order with these three files? (Here is the Functional LM mod partly overridden by Maxis LMs) Help and/or information is needed please. Thank you, -
Please forgive me if there is a topic that addresses this, but I literally have almost 3,300 files in my Plugins folder...and I have no idea how to tell what they are. That doesn't even include the multiple folders themselves. For example, one is named PEG_CSK-Add-On2_205.dat. Obviously I downloaded it at some point, but if it's something that shows up in my city, how do I know what it is? Yes, it takes a long time for my game and city to load...I don't mind that. But with as many plugins as I have, is there a way I can group similar items together so I'm not scrolling forever in my menus just to find a park with a playground...or whatever? Thanks as always. I'm trying to get into modding some of the custom content I've downloaded to better suit my terrain and such. For example, I'm trying to replace the ground textures on this set. Does one need to open up every individual lot in PIM and use the PIM lot editor to switch out the textures? Or, is it possible to replace the included grass/ect textures themselves and so every lot will end up with the switched textures without doing each lot individually?

Hey folks, Got a far out question. I'm working on revamping my plugin folder. The question: Is it better to just dump everything into the plugins or to put everything in a separate folder? I ask for speed of loading not housekeeping reasons. I'm not sure as to the inner workings of SC4 so I really don't know. I have in the past put all in separate folders for obvious reasons but now I'm wondering if SC4 would load faster with all in plugins or in subfolders or if it really matters when it comes to speed of loading? DATPacker and JDATPacker on Windows 10 [SOLVED]
LironTheChick posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Hi Y'all! Yes, I have returned and I'm pretty much a grandmum now in ST terms. So as y'all have known a lot of things have changed since the last time I was active here (2012ish) and you pretty much get Win 10 when purchasing new computers. Anyway, I'm having issues using both DATPacker and JDATPacker and I'm not sure if it got anything to do with Windows 10 or not. I'm trying to install CAM and installation failed so I opted for the manual process which failed as well because I cannot seem to use datpacker and jdatpacker. For datpacker, it just gives me a dialogue box saying that a log file has been created. For jdatpacker, it finishes 'datpacking' but it actually didn't do anything at all. Sim_City1.dat and the other .dat file are still separate and not packed. Ya know what I mean? I've never had these issues before using older operating systems and I seriously won't take "get a new OS" or "downgrade to an older OS" as answers. Thanks in advance for those who will help. Hello, I am new and recently downloaded a ".dat" file but cannot open it. Is there a program to open this file? I have looked for solutions everywhere but am unsuccessful. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So I'm not referring to the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms) of the United States of America. In my search to resolve an issue that I previously had with SC4 CTD I stumbled upon dat-packing using wouanagaine's SC4 Dat Packer Utility found here . Since I still download lots of content part of my process is to "pack" after I've thoroughly tested for compatibility. Recently I've decided to use the DAMN menu and ended up using my "unpacked" directories to try and fix some little glitches I was experiencing with those DAMN menus. My question is this: How many people are still packing? Does it make sense these days to continue packing? I mean our CPUs and GPUs have come along way since the SC4 Dat Packer Utility was published. Is it still being used by the community? BTW, I use Startup Manager since there are scenarios where I don't want to load certain plug-ins.
