Copying the entire game folder onto another PC without second installation?
pschulka posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
hey forum, i have a very specific question related to my archival needs, and i hope i'll find someone here who could give me an explanation. here goes: i'd like to copy my installation of SimCity 4 (deluxe) , that is the entire game folder and the plugins folder from "my documents" onto a thumb drive so that i can copy it to whichever PC i fancy. how do i do this? (i know that i will have to reinstall NAM on the new pc, anyway.) questions: do i copy BOTH the desktop folder "SimCity 4 (pc download)" (this one was created by the amazon downloader when i purchased a digital copy of SC4 deluxe there) AND the program files (86) one? as is now i have two game folders, that seem identical though i use the executable from the deskop folder to start the game and as path for the game launcher. question: when the amazon downlader installed the game, it basically copied the entire game in that desktop folder, and AFTER THAT installed it again in the program files (86) one... like it would from a CD-installation (albeit a hundred times faster^^). is the program files order even necessary? question: how does win7 or win10 even recognise the game? if i just "copy and paste" the two (three with plugins folder) installation folders on the new pc...does it run? there was no installation on the new pc. question: how would i make the new pc recognise the folders as a program? i figured, there have to be some registry entries and such, right? can i just copy those from the old pc, too? thank you very much in advance to anyone who could help me with this. -
Please forgive me if there is a topic that addresses this, but I literally have almost 3,300 files in my Plugins folder...and I have no idea how to tell what they are. That doesn't even include the multiple folders themselves. For example, one is named PEG_CSK-Add-On2_205.dat. Obviously I downloaded it at some point, but if it's something that shows up in my city, how do I know what it is? Yes, it takes a long time for my game and city to load...I don't mind that. But with as many plugins as I have, is there a way I can group similar items together so I'm not scrolling forever in my menus just to find a park with a playground...or whatever? Thanks as always. Hey folks, Got a far out question. I'm working on revamping my plugin folder. The question: Is it better to just dump everything into the plugins or to put everything in a separate folder? I ask for speed of loading not housekeeping reasons. I'm not sure as to the inner workings of SC4 so I really don't know. I have in the past put all in separate folders for obvious reasons but now I'm wondering if SC4 would load faster with all in plugins or in subfolders or if it really matters when it comes to speed of loading? Hopefully this is the correct spot for this post..........But I recently learned about how SC4 actually uses a load order with its files. Ive tried reading up on this but I end up getting overwhelmed with screenshots of folder setups and technical lingo. So, in general, how does one know how to "order" there plugin folders correctly if the provided readme for downloaded files doesn't state anything? Questions like: 1. Should dependency, prop, and texture folders go at the top or bottom? 2. what about gameplay mods such as slope mods, sidewalk mods, traffic light replacers etc? My plugins mainly consists of CAM (and every additional CAMeLot that goes with it) NAM, different lot files for R,CO,and IND, a dependency folder with everything I can cram in it, slope mod, some parks and eye candy and such. Finding and installing everything for the CAM was very time consuming, and I just want to make sure that everything I downloaded is actually being used and shown correctly.

Cul-de-sac, street, and Automata mods stopped working
Delta 88 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I have a problem with my Cul-de-sac mods and automata mods not working at all - they used to, but not since January or so. I think it was a NAM update or something that killed it, I don't know. I've tried re-installing, re-arranging, moving to properly named folders - all to no avail. I recently downloaded the urban tarsealed street mod as well, and only the intersections show up - the rest is still vanilla Maxis streets. Any idea on how to get everything actually working?- 5 Replies
