  1. Hey everybody, I got this info box pop up when I sign in to a couple of my cities in my region. Before this happened I had never seen this before. I've actually not noticed anything looking outta sorts or missing any graphics or whatever, so I don't know what the deal is. If anybody can explain this to me I'd appreciate it. I'm terrible with computers, so if you can dumb down your explanation and don't use too heavy of "techy words" that would help me out as well. What I see appearing in my game is shown in the photo below. You can see my technical prowess as I forgot how to take a screenshot on my computer so I took a photo of my computer screen using my phone, haha! Ok, thanks everybody.
  2. Crash on startup

    This is the first time the game has crashed in over a year and a half. It doesn't even reach the EA splash. I deleted (and later replaced) a plugin that was being awfully repetitive, so is this what's been causing this recent problem?
  3. So these self extracting exe files for plugins...what is the purpose? Are we not capable of click and drag ourselves? It is an unnecessary risk running these random exe files when they only function to put a file or two in the plugin folder. Is it just an ego trip for the content creators, knowing that they will create file paths on stranger's computers?
  4. Plugins Folder

    Hi, I am getting ready to start building a region and have downloaded several neat bats, lots, mods, and their dependencies. I heard people recommend instead of throwing everything into the plugins folder you can actually create subfolders in there to sort things out better and the game will still include them. Assuming that is true, if i put an item that requires a prop pack in subfolder A in my plugins folder, and put the actual prop pack in subfolder B, will it still work out? Should I just throw everything into the main plugin folder and leave it at that? Suggestions are appreciated.
  5. Hi. Im person who likes to play games where failure is possible. Thats why I play simcity 4 with hard difficult without cheats and Im looking plugins that improve gameplay while game is close to vanilla. Here is a list of plugins Im using now, if you know others similar that fixes bugs or improves vanilla gameplay please let me know. Carpool fix - in vanilla carpool ordinance does nothing literally, now it reduces pollution but I dont know is it worth of $$$ or not. Area 51 Air Force Base No Exclusion - If you play on hard difficult these reward buildings are enabled. Area 51 is doctor WUs evil base while airforce base is his enemys base. Normaly you can have only one because they are opposite of each other but since you play on hard difficult now you can have both. crime fix - eternal crime in airport and county club? Not anymore! Or atleast it should work like that. private school fix - you can have this if you want or not. This makes private schools much bigger (1 000 -> 10 000), makes it cost cash and includes bus limousin. Why is that is when your city becomes very huge and private school has more than 1 000 pupils quality of education lowers dramatically. So you can download this mod... or simply move your private school opera house fix - this is an essential. When your city becomes too big bonuses provided by opera house becomes negative. space port fix - same as opera house. this provides missing works for space port. missing IH $$$ job fix - this is essential as well. In vanilla IH increases $$$ demand but due to bug there are no $$$ jobs in IH. This is the reason of unemployed billionares. datafix - better dataview. RCI query mod - ever wondered why demand suddenly rises and drops? This mod provides some fancy numbers to explain it further. Functional Landmarks - you have a landmark which could as well be a paper house. Not anymore! This plug adds workslots for every landmark, so if you build an Empire State building there will be over 1 000 slots open for $$$! SPAM - SPAM basically this reworks whole agriculture making it more vital, profitable, more works, levels of farms and agriculture does not disappear suddenly when your city becomes too big. NAM - last but the most essential mod.
  6. I have a problem with my Cul-de-sac mods and automata mods not working at all - they used to, but not since January or so. I think it was a NAM update or something that killed it, I don't know. I've tried re-installing, re-arranging, moving to properly named folders - all to no avail. I recently downloaded the urban tarsealed street mod as well, and only the intersections show up - the rest is still vanilla Maxis streets. Any idea on how to get everything actually working?
  7. I know there are ways to organize my plugin folder, which i have just started doing. But, is there a mod that will help with organizing the Menu's in the game? Everything just seems to get piled into the landmarks menu, and can be a little disorganized if you have many mods
  8. Hi Everyone, Former player here, but haven’t been into the game for quite some time, probably 2008 or so. I was getting into the fantastic downloadable content back then, and dropping them into a huge unorganized mess of a plugin folder, which ultimately became my frustration. Since then I’ve tried to make a couple forays back into the game, but I always got overwhelmed about starting over again from scratch (my old computer is long gone, not that I'd want to deal with it anyway). Fast forward to today... Have you ever been on one of those flights that you just HAVE to go play some SimCity after? I just had a flight landing in Boston with the approach coming in from the bay and a perfect view of the city from my window. All I could think about was SimCity, and I was totally inspired to get back into the game! Let’s build things! But more importantly, I want to do it right, from the start. With that in mind, I have a few comments on desired playstyle, if that helps: I like to build cities organically. I’ll plop some buildings here and there as a focal centerpiece or when something isn’t growing as planned, but generally speaking, I like guiding it the city to grow over time. I like to build rather slowly, starting in the pre-auto world and moving forward. Here was a typical “story” game style that I would play out: A group of settlers colonize a new region, and slowly move out to farm the region and build small communities, and turn the original settlement into the “capitol” metropolis (though these would never get to be too huge). There were some fantastic CJ’s with similar ideas that I used to follow here on Simtropolis. I’d really like to build wall-to-wall European-style cities. ...and a few related questions: I never organized my plugins folder last time around, so all of the wonderful new content would mix in with everything else, making it difficult in a growable environment, leading to a lot of unnecessary demolishing of buildings. Gas station showing up in what was supposed to be 1850, or getting a couple of the nice W2W BATs to grow side-by-side, only to have something that didn’t fit at all grow next door. Is there any way to set up the plugins and\or style eras to better accomplish this? I guess generally, aside from the era and style issues just noted, is there anything else I should be conscious of while building up a plugin folder from scratch? Like I said above, my old game was just a total disaster when it came to the folder. If something messed up with a dependency, it could take forever to find the culprit. I’d really like to do it right this time, even if it means devoting more pre-work time. Also, I remember reading something back then about creating different plugin folders to cut down on the size and load time. Is that still an issue with faster computers? This is a completely clean slate. In fact, I even had to buy the game again (gog.com) thanks to the wisdom over at Microsoft to stop supporting CD-ROMs. So I will have to download EVERYTHING. Any advice on how to go about finding the content? Is it just a matter of working through the websites one page at a time? And what exactly are the best sources of material these days? Would you recommend working backwards through time, or should I start at the beginning and work my way forward to avoid downloading older material over new. Is there anything I should generally avoid? Are there any new tools to help manage content/dependencies? During the last time around, I saw that CAM was getting up and running (and causing arguments). I never tried it. Given my playstyle, do you think it is right for me? If CAM isn't right, are there any generally agreed upon growth-related mods I should look into? I know this is a huge information request and a lot of this has surely been asked before in bits and pieces. I’ll work through the forums in due time, but for now, I definitely appreciate any discussion and tips I can get from the wisdom in the community. Thanks in advance! BTW, I saw LnX’s thread about the game entering a new “golden age” of sorts. That’s simply incredible given all of this time, and absolutely inspiring. I am truly hoping I can get back into it, and contribute back to the community as well.
  9. Cleared out my plugin folder to get rid of CTD's. And somehow deleted one of the most useful bats of all time and it's driving me crazy! I don't remember how it's called or who made it, so I can't for the life of me find it. I just can't find one plugin in specific, and it's driving me crazy! I don't remember how it's called or who made it, so I can't for the life of me find it. This plugin consisted of small, 1X1 blank gravel lots, that were able to provide power and water to the whole city, as well as clearing out all the garbage. It was really useful to use in cities where I didn't feel like building a power plant or a large water structure that took up a lot of space. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, and where to find it, any help would be greatly appreciated guys! Thank you!

    This plugin increases font size in SimCity 4. It's recommended to use in 1920x1080 resolution. You can easily change font size with ilive_reader093 and modifying .dat file. Feel free to add suggestions. Due to some reason font size does not work for news. If anyone can fix it, pls post solution. Also big nubmers do not fit on the screen.     Some fun news for people who experience the plugin file limit, it's gonna be patched! In upwards of a month. I had started a convo with the bug report person, and they walked me through the process of giving them the needed info, so, everything will be awesome soon! Yay!

    So i have this problem with some commercial buildings. Mad hater and mattb. For exemple this office compelx by mattb. it looks liek it's delapidated, but when i query it , it tells me that almost 90% of the jobs are occupied. Could this be a conflict with the RCI Multi 100 homejobs?

  15. Hi. I have installed numerous plugins recently, many from this site. Nearly all BATs. Yes, I have unzipped them all, and they were all functioning fine until today when I downloaded some more. Since then when I logged in, all of my previous BATs have turned to brown boxes, the previous items have vanished from my menus and when I look in the plugins folder, there are only a couple of items compared to probably over 100 and other items which were in the plugins folder have now been sent into different folders. I don't know what to do, as I don't know which plugin was responsible for the problem, but it's really frustrating as it has messed up several cities and is obviously hours of time downloading at the BATs and it appears they have vanished. Really need help here. PS I am not a super-whizz kid. My technical knowledge is limited.

Then I want to delete it but i can't remember what does the name of it file.   17. Hello all. I'm new to downloading things like plugins for games and I'm having some issues. Some of the most popular downloads on Simtropolis that I want to use in my city aren't working entirely. Such as brown boxes instead of the building, missing walls or an entire building missing. I've checked the dependencies and the readmes and for the life of me I can't figure out what's going wrong. Any advice? Thanks!
  18. No road acces mod

    Hi People. I have question. Is there any mod or something elese to disable "no road acces"? You see, I'm useing SC4 to build cities wich looks nice...i have some roads wich are not game roads or streets. For example i have plugin with roads with parkings. They have acces to general roads from game, but when i build a building in front of this plugin-street with parking, building can't see this road. For building there are no road acces, and in time my building is empty, and turns into ruin. Can I switch this option off? I want put buildings anywhere i want, and not turn them into ruin? Can You help me good People? Thanks

  20. Hello Simtropians ! paulmc here! I used to come here at simtropolis some years ago, when I was a simcity addicted. I had to quit playing for a while , due university stuff, and now I come here and it's all new and even nicer,. But the main issue is that I decided to play sim city 4 again, but my computer was too old ( obsolet) for that , so I bought a new one, which came with windows 8. I've read some topics about sim city 4 working on windows 8, seems that it's possible, that is good. But I would like to play more than vanilla, since when i used to play it , i had zillions of pulgins, but it's in the old hard drive, of the old computer. You guys know that there are plugins that give the game a awesome realistic gameplay, liek airports, nature stuff, and other buildings. I still have my plugins there ( in the old hard drive), I want to know if I copy and paste it to the plugins folders on windows 8 , will it work ? I am afraid that not, if anyone could confirm it I would be grateful. So, if copy and paste is not a available option, there is any hint from you to get those plugins back as fast as possible? Or will I have to download all them again, one by one, and the same for all those hundreds of dependencies ? I think I made my "problem" clear, what you guys recommend me to do ????? I am still a sim city addicted !! I want to play it again so badly and if possible be back at cjing as well ! Help me !!! if this post is in the wrong place , i am sorry .. thank you guys in advance !!!
  21. Hello Simtropolis, Sadly, this is my first post on this amazing site... I am fairly new to the world of modding and plugins, but have a good idea of what's what and what's supposed to happen in theory...obviously not in practice. I've basically been spending the last week researching and reading up on all the wonderful customizations that I can enjoy, how to install them, how to run them...and all the wonderful potential of what can be done beyond just playing Sim City 4, and in anticipation of downloading tons of plugins and mods, I thought I would first clean up my plugins folder of the few downloads I did try...there weren't many at all, a few megabytes. This basically meant rearranging, creating a few folders within the plugins folder in a way that I can track what is going where, as I expected that not long from now I might have hundreds of new plugins. I arranged things by the type of category and lot/mod and sometimes by the person who made it. I had quite a few files land up in an "Unknown Files" folder I made within my plugins folder. Before I did all this I played the game for a few minutes to try and see what was and wasn't showing up and working in the game from what I already had, a few lots weren't showing up, so I shut the game down, rearranged the folders, removed 1 or 2 files I didn't want any longer and downloaded one or two dependencies that were missing...and tried the game again, except it doesn't work! I get the splash screen...then nothing. The icon in the task bar shows up while the splash is on screen and disappears when the splash disappears. I haven't changed my targets for the shortcut, I haven't modified or moved any mods (only mods I have running is NAM and the God Mode Terrain tools in Mayor Mode Mod...that's a lot of M's). Here is where it gets even stranger..."cautious me" decided to back up my plugins folder BEFORE I rearranged it, just in case something funny like this happens...so I pasted it back, and cut the newly arranged plugin folder somewhere else...and it still didn't work! So I have NO idea where to start fixing this problem. I would be very grateful for any help or suggestions as I am totally lost as to what to do. I have some technical details below...in case it's needed, but I am 99% certain that this isn't a hardware issue. Game Version: Sim City 4 Deluxe, Version 1.1.640.0 System: Running Windows 7 Premium, on an HP Pavilion DV6, 6GB of RAM, 64-bit system, Intel Core i5, CPU @ 2.50 Ghz. My sim city folders are based in a My Documents folder, it's always been that way, nothing has been mistakenly transferred to any of the Program Files. Thank you and looking forward to your feedback!     So kind of a $%&^! question considering I've been playing SC4 for quite some time, but is there an advantage to using the plugin folder found under computer (eg. something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition\Plugins) versus the one in my documents (eg. C:\Users\mjellenberger\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins)?

    The SimCity 4 Extra Cheats Plugin Overview: The SimCity 4 Extra Cheats Plugin was originally an internal SimCity 4 file, used by Maxis during the development phase to test the game before its release to the public. However, in the years following the release of the game, Buggi, a prominent modder resident here at Simtropolis, contacted Maxis and was given permission to release this file to the public. The extra cheats plugin adds many additional features to the game, such as the ability to plop any building or lot at will, the ability to easily set how much money is in your city's treasury and even the ability to add snow to your terrains, as well as many other additional functions. However, it should be kept in mind that this file was originally never intended to be released to the public. It was built for testing purposes only. As a result, it should be treated with caution. Using this file incorrectly can lead to game instability and even crashes. No guarantees or comprehensive user guides can be provided with this file, if you choose to use it, you must do so at your own risk. How to use this file in the game: After you install (see below), enter a city and press the key combination [CTRL] + [x] to open the cheat box. Right click anywhere within the cheat box, you will see a drop down list appear. You can now select a cheat from the list by clicking on it. After you have selected a cheat, press enter to confirm your selection. Below is a list of all known cheat codes enabled by this file (as well as the standard game cheats) and a description of their effects. As the effects of some cheats are unknown, not all cheats have available descriptions. UPDATE: To fill in some unknowns Maxis has given me the details on a few of the missing descriptions. Barstuck - Once invoked, all of your small commercial services (low-density 1x3 lots) start turning into coffee bars, and then they stay that way forever. WatchMeMove - Enables animation stepping. After it is enabled, control-shift-alt-F11 and control-shift-alt-P implement animation stepping and pausing, respectively. GP <on | off> - Enables or disables game pause when you switch to another application. This is useful for if you go away from the game and you want it to sleep while it is in the background. Flora (on | off) | (preserve on | off) | (propogation on | off) | (blast <splat_count> <per_splat_count> <splat radius>) Controls flora simulation parameters. By default, during city play flora simulation is on, preservation is off, and propogation is off. Preservation refers to the keeping of trees on land when the land is developed. Propogation refers to the spreading of seeds and automatic creation of new flora life in the city. Example(s) Flora on Flora preserve off Flora propogation on Flora blast 5 8 60 Installation Instructions: Extract the file SimCity 4 Extra Cheats Plugin.dll to the root directory of your plugins folder. This means put the file in C:\...\My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins. DO NOT put the file into a sub-folder, it will only work if placed into the main directory. Then enter your game and follow the instructions above.
