UI Scaling / Placement for Ultra wide monitors
Koankuta posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Firstly, you'll have to bear with me as I've only started modding SC4 for a couple days. I've played for over 20 years completely vanilla, but coming across this forum has completely refreshed the experience! I've downloaded all the critical mods from this thread, along with NAM, realistic weather / lighting and various texture replacers. With a DX wrapper, I've successfully been able to play fullscreen on my SUW monitor at a resolution of 3840x1080 with no crashes. It's beautiful! My monitor is 5120x1440, however at that resolution the game crashes after a few minutes. But that's beside the point... What I'd like to change is the placement of the UI. It sits right in the center of the screen, and I'd like to move it to the bottom left corner at my resolution. I've seen other mods that move the UI by X number of pixels (like this one), so if I understand correctly it should be possible. However I'm not acquainted with modifying/creating plugins. I imagine it's more involved than, say, writing an .ini and implementing an offset by x number of pixels, but I have many years' experience working IT and am happy to learn. It's more of a question of if someone who does know how to do something like this, would they like to give me a hand in making it possible. Or, better yet, if there's a simpler solution I'm not aware of! I appreciate any contribution, thank you all for keeping this game alive! **Edit I'm embarrassed to admit that I fell for an April Fool's upload, thinking the realistic lighting mod was going to work -
Scaling props in a .DAT with Model Tweaker without overwriting the original file
delyrium posted a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Hi guys! I'm trying to scale props which are packed within a .dat with the Model Tweaker. The problem is that I don't want to overwrite the original file but instead have both the original and scaled props available in the Lot Editor. I've already tried to copy and rename the original .dat file, scaling the renamed file and having both files in the Plugins folder. However, for some reason only the scaled props are available in the Lot Editor. I'm assuming that it has to do with the naming as the props still have the same names within the to differently named .dat files. If this is the case how can I change these names within the .dat file so that both versions (scaled and original) are available in the Lot Editor? Using the Reader? Cheers Delyrium -
SimCity 4 screen resolution using Lossless Scaling
Turnstyled posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hello! I made a video a few nights ago in which I ran SimCity 4 through various scaling methods available in Lossless Scaling available for purchase on Steam. My display is 4K and I ran SimCity 4 in 1080p. If I cannot be heard that well in the video, I have a Shure XLR microphone, but I seem to have broken XLR functionality on my sound card's digital to analogue converter when I tried to repair it. Thus, I used my webcam's microphone at night in my apartment. I didn't want to be too loud. As I said in the video, selecting integer scaling did nothing. The reason for that is that my graphics card drivers support integer scaling. As a result, I have integer scaling set without setting it in Lossless Scaling. At the end of the video, I had said that something like this will have to be done on 8K monitors, which are a way off from even becoming popular for gamers. When I had said that, I didn't mean that one will have to use a scaling method available in a program like Lossless Scaling. I had just meant that because I'm already having difficulty seeing the user interface at native 4K, SimCity 4 in native 8K will be unplayable! Personally, I prefer the LS1 scaling method that I used in the video over integer scaling. In SimCity 3000 Unlimited on my PC, I can't play it at native 4K because the user interface is so miniscule. SC3KU is very playable at 1080p using integer scaling, however. As SimCity 3000 Unlimited is a 2D-only game, there is no noticeable loss in visual quality scaling from 1080p to 4K using integer scaling. The user interface is very visible, though. -
Hi! So I got a little off topic in the "How to run SimCity 4 Natively above 1920x1080 in Hardware Mode!!!" thread (https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/759666-how-to-run-SimCity-4-natively-above-1920x1080-in-hardware-mode/?do=findComment&comment=1765515). I was trying to say that while SimCity 4 can run at 8K, it might not be ideal.... Look at the user interface in regard to everything else. Below is Timbuktu. The UI in City Life: 2008 Edition was barely readable at 4K. At 5860x3240, it was a lost cause. Below is a screenshot of City Life in 1440p on my 4K display that's set to 5760x3240. In the screenshot below, I've applied Nvidia Image Scaling that's available for purchase on Steam. Now, below is SimCity 3000 Unlimited at 4K. It looks beautiful, but it's unplayable for me due to the miniscule user interface. Below is SimCity 3000 Unlimited set to 1440p. That is definitely playable for me! That about concludes my scaling experiments. With SimCity Classic, it was just a matter of setting the correct Windows compatibility settings. Thank you for reading!

I have a small issue, pun not intended just a happy accident. Anyway, I am just stepping into BATting and I created a baseball field. Nothing special just the field, a wall all the way around and two dugouts. I messed up when I built it. I made it to small. It is 2x2 and when I put it in game I realized I wanted 4x4. I went back into the BAT and scaled it up to 4x4, re-exported it and it is still 2x2. Went back into BAT scaled it up again, saved it under a different name, re-exported again and it's still 2x2. Any suggestions?

blender Scaling a UV Map from Square to Rectangle
Samness posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Hey everyone! So I've been trying my hand at modelling buildings lately, and things were going great until I realized that I could reduce my building's UV mapping from 2048x2048 to 2048x1024 without impacting the texture quality too much. Unfortunately, I didn't make this realization until I was nearly done with the texturing. An hour of hair pulling later, here's my current situation: ^ The original, before I started messing with it. ^ Now. I can't seem to figure out a way to crop the UV map from 1:1 to 2:1 without the faces automatically scaling to 2:1 as well. I'd very much like it not to alter the dimensions of everything because I don't want to start over when I'm this far in. I know how to visually fix the issue (by leaving the UV map at 2048x2048 and dragging the image to fit) but that kinda defeats the purpose of scaling it. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Any ideas / tips / solutions? That would help a lot. Thanks!- 5 Replies
