The best 'reasonably priced' new PC to run SC4 as well as possible
Haljackey posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Well I made a decision. My current PC- which contains guts from 2010 when I built the thing from scratch, is going to get a replacement. The only thing I remember upgrading was the GPU in 2015 to run Skylines better. It's done a good job running SC4, but now I want to get something new and replace it before something on it dies. It will still be a good backup. ----- I'm hoping on Black Friday I'll take advantage of some promos and build an entirely new PC from scratch. I want to aim this build to run SC4 as best as it possibly could. I'm thinking my budget for a new build will be $1k-1,500 CDN, but I can stomach up to 2k. That's why I say reasonably priced in the title. Not cheap, but also won't have a 3k GPU in it. ----- Having said that, I'd like input from the community. What guts do you recommend to get a brand new PC to run SC4 well on a 2022 build? What CPU should I get? I'm thinking less cores, more GHz per core? What motherboard? What graphics card? What RAM and how many GB? What power supply? Etc... I assume this will run Windows 11 too if that helps. I'd also see if I can get the game to stream/record better. Getting decent FPS in dense cities with a large plugin folder is something my current PC struggles to do. Ideally I want to record/streem seamlessly at 1080p 60FPS. Advice welcome! Thanks in advance! -
The best 'reasonably priced' new PC to run SC4 as well as possible

Well this thread is 2 years out of date but I finally made the purchase. Here's what I got: $1.500 CDN ($1,700 after taxes) Processor AMD Ryzen 9 7900 12-Core Processor 3.70 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable) --- After an initial load of SC4 everything seems to be in place. Loading times don't seem to be much different but I'll have to test the in-game performance of my big cities. Regardless I was due for a update. Already considering upping my RAM to 64GB after seeing Firefox eat close to 40% of it with just a few tabs open. How did it work on my old machine with just 12GB DDR3 lol -
I made a series on the SimCity 4 Reddit showing some 'landing strips' in my region- AKA the regional airport mod that you plop. I guess this showcases a lot of places you can make them. I will post all dozen of them here for Simtrop to see.

I figured out how to export my region as a HTML and upload it to a server. You can now explore it full size. You can try it here but it will take a moment to load. You will need to scroll both vertically and horizontally to pan. https://haljackey-ring-of-fire-region.netlify.app/ ----- Created by KREW- You can click on each city tile to see stats. You can also switch to transport view. Example:

I'm using the Ontario cosmetic turning lane / cosmetic pieces. The mix I have is pre-NAM 36 and I continue to push internally with the team to include these, along with other features in the old monolythic NAMs so that they are available elsewhere. Issue is some of them are not compatible / are obsolete with new content but slow progress is being made to tackle this. Example is some updated BTM textures @rsc204 released- that was last in NAM 36. My 12S networks look so naked without cosmetic pieces, signs, etc. In time I'm sure some may come

Very cool- don't think I've seen a stack that put the flyovers at L0 and L2 yet. Good work with all the earthworks too to get the slopes right. --- I realized I didn't post some new junctions here before I added my latest UDI vid. These rebuilds were included in them. First we have this simple diamond. It's not so simple anymore. I reversed the elevated roadways, and check out where the traffic lights are --- Second, a curved half interchange Rebuilt to a full access interchange ---- Similar story down the road ----- This twisty 3-way also got a redesign --- Here's a really old build- 2014 or so, a decade ago Got compressed And now recently got expanded a bit ----- Refreshing a 4-way junction to allow for some 12S action. Revamped ----- This folded diamond also got widened --- Lastly, a classic SPUI got more lanes pushed through too. To You can see all these and more in the UDI vid I liked a couple posts above this one.

Old city from 2006 or 07 that still uses MHW. I made this insanity as an interm solution until that gets revamped to a proper RHW. You can see more of this stretch of RHW in this vid, and the connecting city in the region view

Created some new ones From To From To - --- New builds Simple diamond in the mountains Simple diamond, but with RHW turning lanes and a ave/OWR split to the south Folded diamond by rail and a crazy intersection to the south Parclo now developed with a slip lane to the south What would you call this? Stacked folded diamond?
