Give a look at this tutorial from @rsc204 explaining how to use the FLUPs and how to check them for connectivity.

I'm sure the idea is to give what you think it's worth to you as in individual. I think about other subscriptions I have or have had in the past to magazines, websites, cable channels, etc and I try to weigh that against what I get from Simtropolis. I'm no modder - I just don't really have the tech skills or computer education to create things to share with the community (I am learning though!) and I definitely take more than I give back because of that and so I try to donate when I can - as much as I can (I always wish it were more) because that's really the only way I can say thank you for all this community has done for me. I think if you create and share a lot of stuff; custom content, technical fixes, superb advice, tutorials, research, etc then perhaps your obligation to the community is mostly already met. But for people like me, if it's in the form of financial support to simply keep the site up and running and let administration focus more on creating and adding new stuff instead of worrying about how to keep the site going then it's worth every penny. IMHO, I don't think administration ever puts any exact numbers on anything because they don't want the community to feel obligated. Not everyone gets the same amount of "stuff" from the site, after all but, if everyone coughed up a little, depending on what they do feel that they get, then I'm sure it would be a non-issue. Simtropolis is free but it doesn't exist for free.

Strange Fire in uninhabited city
MeMyself&I replied to HayleyRenaNemeth's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
It was rather strange. I don't think she even had any zones laid out either. Just experimenting with the RHW when a tree went up in smoke! Never seen that before, not in a tile completely devoid of development other than highway, at least. It was so random and totally unexpected that it made me laugh out loud. I didn't think the game prompted for a firehouse until there was some kind of zoned development but, apparently it does. -

Wow. That's coming along nicely! What terrain mod are you using, just out of curiosity? It definitely works here.

Really amazing work here, Korver, as always. Your attention to detail is truly admirable and inspirational too! From the bazaar to the carriages to the trees in the pavement and the narrow back alleys with cars in them. Really incredible! And the colors of the buildings are just amazing! Thanks for this little trip to Europe!

SC4DLX Frustrations - trying to decide what to do?
MeMyself&I replied to MarkShot's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
The single most efficient way to avoid lots of traffic pollution is to have plenty of alternative transportation options in place for your sims to use. Subways, elevated and normal rail, bus lines, ferries, pedmalls, etc. Never underestimate how many trees or parks you need. You can never have enough in any city tile and they help stimulate growth as well as control pollution, especially for all residential and commercial zones. It also helps to not run 8 or 10 lane highways through towns or cities. They're better suited for the outskirts with bypasses and spur lines of 4 or 6 lanes to run through developed areas and re-connect. There are some great videos on YT about the RHW. @Haljackey has probably the most extensive and innovative highways in his cities so check out his stuff both here and on YT and also check out the "Show Us" threads here on ST for ideas and inspiration for pretty much every kind of development, especially highways and interchanges. -

I'm hoping you don't give up on this because I really like them and they're not as bad as you might think they are. A little touching up, perhaps, but otherwise they're great! Maybe just walk away from it for a short while and then look at it again perhaps it will look different to you. The big mushroom shaped ones for ships are called bollards and the smaller "T" shaped ones for boats are called cleats.
