  1. SFBT Stairs

    Version 1.0.0

    502 Downloads

(First published on 25 December 2021 at SC4D LEX and SimCityKurier) In 2007 the Japanese BATter Mas71 created a simple asymmetrical stair, which, though being really nice, unfortunately lacks a mirrored counterpart. This download contains a stair model, that loosely follows the design of that from Mas71, but now also features an additional mirrored version. Their classic but plain design ensures a versatile usability. Furthermore, a small set of matching all-terrain embankment walls is included. The two different levels flanking the stairs directely, however, should be completely even and have a height difference of exactly 15 metres. For the appropriate terraforming, Smoncrie's Hole Digger Lots are recommended. When placing the embankment walls, make sure that the arrow of the respective lot points in the direction of the higher level. Apart from that, the orientation of the lots is based on that shown on the icons. In order to enclose outer corners, two lots have to be placed: on the left a 2x1 lot, which includes the actual corner wall, and on the right, immediately afterwards, a straight 1x1 lot with a barrier grid slightly extending into the corner area. 2. N1's Gap Fillers

Due to the closure of not just one but two once popular SimCity 4 web portals (SC4 Devotion and German-language SimCityPlaza) this year's SFBT Christmas present has been uploaded to the good old STEX. The reason of the latter's closure is a very sad one: Spocky, who was not only operator of the SimCityPlaza, but also longtime operator of the SimForum and, like me, member of the SimForum BAT Team (SFBT), passed away on 12 June 2023 at the age of just 63. The download I link to below is dedicated to him. SFBT Gare du Bas-Meudon Merry Christmas!

I hope it's okay if I provide the bugfixes this way for now: https://limewire.com/?referrer=pq7i8xx7p2 ----- EDIT: I guess, this is the correct download link: https://limewire.com/d/snjTq#YnWFzJrFfp Sorry

Laziness in the past results in additional work in the present. And the whole set consists of ten buildings. *phew* Well, anyway, at least two Duméril houses have been revised so far: left half of the image => 2015; right half of the image => 2025/26 --- --- Variant 1, 2015: 91.230 vertices, 66 materials Variant 1, 2025/26: 86.784 vertices, 24 materials Variant 2, 2015: 76.520 vertices, 58 materials Variant 2, 2025/26: 105.038 vertices, 19 materials The latter variant got new balcony and window railings, which explains the increase in the number of vertices. Of course you can't see anything of this even in zoom 5. Well, I did not expect anything else. Again, I want to provide some just-for-fun HD renderings: --- If you look very close (very, very close) you may see the distinct guilloche motif of the second building's balcony and window railings. The 2015 model just featured mirrored railings of variant 1. _____ Speaking of "tiny": I've recently discovered two bugs, one affecting an animated sim by Maxis, the other a tree prop kindly provided by BATter Girafe. I've taken the liberty of fixing these (left: before, right: after). Now the girl does what she is supposed to do: hop-clapping and not boo others rudely. And the beech model by Girafe now also shows its full beauty in west view of zoom 3. I'm just wondering if it makes any sense to upload these minor bugfixes solely.

This download contains a revised version of my 2009 BAT of the same name, which was one of my first SimCity 4 building models then. Although my SFBT teammate voltaic did his best to get the most out of it, there were still a number of shortcomings that could only be eliminated by a fundamental overhaul. In general, when attempting to represent reality in a model, its impression in the game is more important than fidelity to the original and details. Sticking to realism in terms of dimensions and proportions, as well as excessive detail, often lead to visually unsatisfactory results. Accordingly, I have now attempted to achieve a more complex and pleasing result using the simplest means possible. The new models—a row house based on the 2009 model, two additional variants, and a corner house—are characterized by a more richly structured façade and more harmonious proportions (balconies, roof). I have omitted the original side wing in the backyard in order to allow the buildings to be constructed on 1x1 lots. 6. Show us What you're Working On

In my mirror-symmetrical twin cities Lutetia Nova Sinistra (LNS) and Lutetia Nova Dextra (LND) there are still several sites that require some rework. The Esplanade, which connects the National (or, in SimCity 4 terms: Regional) and the Provincial Assembly building, is one of them. Initially I relotted Debussyman's Stormont building and plopped the new lot twice, once on the western, once on the eastern end of the Esplanade. The two huge parks in front of these lots also looked the same, as I used the same park set by Paeng for both, just supplemented with some additional new lots. Basically I still like the result, but think that more variety and work on the details are necessary. Before: The lateral medium-wide footpaths of the parks are not in-line with the corresponding footpaths of the Stormont lots. Moreover, they lack the low green fences that all other paths are accompanied with (you can hardly see this on the zoom 3 screenshot). The narrow paths in turn literally end in nowhere. It would look much better, if they were oriented towards the circular blue-white-red flowerbeds, wouldn't it? After: It still looks like the park lots by Paeng (in particular the luscious green ones on the picture below), but all overlay textures as well as the Murimk-style green fences are new. Furthermore I've done some FSH editing in order to alter the colour of a number of props, largely shrubs and other green stuff by Maxis and Simgoober. As my knowledge of working with graphics software is fairly limited, I really struggled with turning the Minerva fountain by Ripptide from blue into green though. The recolouring of the fountain's night lights still has to be done.

On the picture in reply #20535 showing the Palais du Luxembourg you can also see a nice emerald green fountain prop. Does anyone know where I can find it? It is not part of the original lots by xannepan, as I've just found out.

  11. SFBT Gare de Bellevue

    Version 1.0.0

    303 Downloads

A version of my last year's download Gare du Bas-Meudon intended for use with Buddybud's slope walls (orthogonal lots as well as diagonal and corner lots). Although a station named Bellevue actually exists in Meudon, the creator of this BAT did not know about this when naming it. As a result, it has little in common with the original. Rather, it is a fictitious station that takes up architectural elements of the Bas-Meudon station. In contrast to the latter, the reception building is located exactly in the middle above the platforms. This and the fact that there is no separate staircase result in a smaller footprint. The rooftop railroad guard house has been replaced by a generally accessible viewing platform. The BAT extends beyond the lot boundaries, there are no transit-enabled tiles. This allowed a versatile modding that includes a variety of public transport modes: Passenger Train, Hybrid Railway (HRW), Subway, Ground Light Rail (GLR) and Bus. Following the specific design of the station just requires a road at the top and (railway or GLR/tram) tracks at the bottom level, both running orthogonal. Something like this,... ...I guess. Well, let's see how I can simplify this in gmax till Christmas. _____ Meanwhile, the Bourdon set has got yet another addition. The first three models have been finished so far: The one and only* 1x1 orthogonal corner building is still in progress: *) Within a 5x8 residential block, for instance, just four of a total of 22 1x1 buildings are corner houses. So I think that will do. Have a wonderful 2nd Advent Sunday!
  13. Where are people from?

I live in Vienna, Austria in a big (more exactly: very long) Art déco residential block. This is the one of its four inner courtyards where my apartment is located (picture taken in December 2007): Meanwhile the building has undergone its second renovation. The lampposts are painted green now. Do you know that the German name of Vienna, Wien, stems from the homonymous river? In fact this river is a dry trickle most of the time. The comparatively huge dimensions of the concrete riverbed therefore seem almost grotesque. But today, they have proven to be insufficient:
  14. I've always wondered, why the most common prop packs almost lack plane trees, as they are considered as typical city and avenue tree respectively. Thanks a lot for this very valuable addition to the game!
  15. N1's Gap Fillers

First of all I want to thank Tibi and all other people involved for their restoration and rehosting efforts! I am really looking forward to the results! I've just seen a picture showing some of my old Duméril BATs with their pixellated cornices and balcony edges (see here, first picture, top right corner). Ironically that's the outcome of too detailled modelling. On the other hand I was quite lazy when BATting the backyard facades (see here on the bottom of the picture). I think, if the staircases are silhouetted against the facade, it looks better. And the number of windows is too high. Anyway, let's come back to Rue Bourdon. I've got myself some inspiration from this photo. I had no idea that there are Haussmannian buildings featuring such windows! In any case that was a good inspiration for a second version. And the narrow row building on the left gave me even more inspiration for a third version. The latter one is still in a very early stage of development, but the former is near completion: I've made a HD rendering in order to depict the differences between version 1 and 2: I think, I'll change the slate roof texture of the first house again. It took me some time to find a simple angular design for the balcony grids in order to match with the triangular pediments. By the way, rearranging details for additional building versions isn't that simple. Let me just give the window shutters as an example: If they are unevenly distibuted, it doesn't look good. Otherwise, if you try to arrange them in a more regular way, this may result in unwanted patterns. And you may know the saying sometimes less is more. As far as the shutters are concerned, that's true. Believe me or not, I really spend a lot of time on things like that. Finally a few words about diagonal versions: Some people think, okay, take the orthogonal version, rotate and stretch it, et voilà, that's it. Perhaps that is just an unfounded assumption, but, anyway, it isn't that simple, too.
  16. N1's Gap Fillers

In order to make the flowers' colour less saturated I prevent any sim from watering them. Thus no sims on the balconies. My Paris BATs are more leaning on Porkissimo's and Xannepan's BATs than on real buildings. Or, let me put it another way: Even if I model a real building (Rue Bourdon is entirely fictional), the model's proportions, textures and details follow the standards set by these two marvellous BATters. I always failed in mimicking Porkie's roofs, so I model them more the way Xannepan used to do. His Rue du Général-Foy buildings, for instance, show a quite sharp contrast between slate and metal roof. Nevertheless I've tried another brighter texture with rectangular shingles. As already mentioned, I've also made the flowers look less garish and replaced the two bigger ones with the smaller versions. If I make all of them even smaller, they'll be entirely covered by the balcony grids. All four views: I left the side wing because I want the model to fit in just one tile. Do you want a version with that wing anyway? Unfortunately I had to change the wall ad because I lost the original image file. The "new" ad doesn't feature a pink bumble bee (French: bourdon), but is still pink. So at least a part of the inside joke remains. Please give me some time to deal with your input. If not here, I'll surely take it into account in future creations. Concerning the flags of the second station: Do you want other flags (German or whatever)? Or do you have any suggestion they could be replaced with?
  17. N1's Gap Fillers

You may have wondered, why I didn't re-release my older stuff, i.e. everything older than my first Mairie. Well, the reason is quite simple: My BATting skills have improved over the years (at least a bit) and I want to do it better now. I've started with my first Paris BAT: Rue Bourdon I really hope no one says, the left model (= the old one) looks better than the right. The old version just doesn't look that bad because my SFBT fellow voltaic did his very best to pep it up. He even added two sims to the upper balcony. In turn, the balconies of the new version feature some potted flowers. The actual flowers are stretched spheres maltreated with the Tesselate modifier. What do you think? Can I leave them like that?
  18. N1's Gap Fillers

@ Tyberius06: The station is just four tiles long. As soon as this one is done, I'll create an additional version with longer platforms. And thank you very much for your offer, I surely will come back to you on this. @ philforhockey51: Can't you say "slopy" in English, not even in a non-serious context? (Yes, I got the thing with the different spelling.) In Vienna railway and subway stations are quite clean (more or less). However, close to Heiligenstadt station, there has been an illegal waste dump for some time now. It is small yet, but growing steadily. I don't know, how the situation is like in France, as I've just been there once in my live in 2007. I just can remember the subtle smell of urine in the area around Gare du Nord in Paris. The remaining views: South East: West:
  19. N1's Gap Fillers

We need more slopy railway stations, don't we? Of course we do! So I've modified my Meudon station in order to be compatible with Buddybud's walls and symmetric (have I already said that I really like symmetry?) as well as to require less space and feature a nice rooftop viewing platform. North view by day is already finished:
  20. N1's Gap Fillers

Thanks to Tyberius06 there is an update of the station mentioned above. Now it works not only as railway station, but also as GLR/tram stop, bus stop as well as subway station. Moreover, the railway functionality was extended from Maxis railway to Hybrid Railway. Following the specific design of the station, just a road at the top and (railway or GLR/tram) tracks at the bottom level are required, both running orthogonal. On this occasion I've also slightly improved the nightlighting: Finally and at last I've fixed the icons that undesirably used to turn grey if the lot was selected.
  21. SFBT Gare du Bas-Meudon

Sorry, I just don't know how to mod a tram stop for the GLR system. If someone else wants to do create such a variant, I'm certainly not going to stand in the way.

    Version 1.1.0

    550 Downloads

This download contains a model of the Bas-Meudon station, which was part of the former Moulineaux railway line (ligne des Moulineaux). The line ran largely along the Seine valley in the western Paris metropolitan area. It was built in anticipation of the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition and the resulting transportation needs. The opening took place on 1 May of that year, just five days before the event began. In 1928, the Moulineaux line was converted from steam to conductor rail operation. After the Second World War, as traffic increasingly shifted from rail to road, passenger numbers steadily declined. The decline accelerated when the line was excluded from further modernisation, in particular the installation of catenaries and integration into the Paris suburban railway network (RER, Transilien). In the last years of operation, only two-car trains ran at quarter or half-hourly intervals. From 1993 to 1997 the line was closed due to conversion from railway to tram operation. Since then it has been part of the Île-de-France tramway network (line T2). The former station building, no longer needed, was turned into a restaurant in 2015. On 14 November 2023, the tram stop, now called Meudon-sur-Seine, made the headlines in the local media when the lower section of the valley-side double stair collapsed. This was preceded by foundation underwashing as a result of heavy rainfall. The stop was reopened on 23 December 2023, after even an interim partial closure of the T2 line had been necessary. The station building stands out due its slope location as well as its architecture. The latter is often associated with the style of the ligne de Petite Ceinture, the small(er) belt railway of Paris, or that of the ligne d'Auteuil. Both are characterised by the location of the station building directly above the tracks. The specific style of Bas-Meudon station, with its brick façade and discreet neoclassical stone decoration, can also be found at other stations on the Moulineaux line. The SimCity versions of the station differ in terms of the position of the platforms (to the left or right of the station building) as well as the depth of the tracks served (7.5 or 15 metres). A total of four lots can be selected in the railway menu. The BATs extend beyond the lot boundaries, there are no transit-enabled tiles. The double staircase mentioned above is merely eye-candy. It is of course unaffected by the events of 14 November 2023, if only because the BATs reflect the state prior to 1993. Important note: Before using version 1.1.0, it is highly recommended to bulldoze any lots of the outdated version 1.0.0 and to delete the corresponding files! Dependencies: SFBT Essentials, BSC Common Dependencies Pack Please see the enclosed ReadMe file for further details!
  23. Most of my BATs include FSHs of at least two different exported models. Stone facade textures, for example, require shadings in order to make the different parts of the facade clearly visible. These shadings are adapted to the respective view, that means I just can't keep a specific shaded facade texture for each view. I usually don't add shadings to non-frontal views of a facade, so in this case "just" two different models are necessary. The steps of a stair, to give another example, also require shaded textures in order to stand out from each other. If all stairs of a model run in only one direction, three different models are necessary; if not, you need even four. I won't go into any more detail now. It would make things much easier, if there were an option to export just a specific view of a model. Is it possible to change the CameraRig script accordingly?
  24. SFBT Hôtel Cail

    Version 1.0.0

    499 Downloads

(First published on 24 December 2019 at SC4D LEX and SimCityKurier) The Hôtel Cail is not a hotel, as the name implies, but a so-called hôtel particulier, which can be roughly translated with city palace. It was built between 1865 and 1867. The architect was Albert (according to other sources Christian) Laboret. Principal and owner was the industrialist Jean-François Cail. The hôtel is located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris and has been functioning as its council couse (mairie) since 1926, after Cail's daughter had sold it to the city of Paris in 1922. In 1982, the classical-style building was listed as a historical monument. The design of the building model is based on the original, but differs in a few points: The building depth has been reduced, and the yard facade, overly ornate in original, has been simplified as a free interpretation. After fulfilling the prerequisites, it can be built as a reward on a 2x2 lot.
